Week 1 Breakdown 8-Man and 6-Man
Zero week in 8-Man had 4 top ten teams playing and 1 top ten match-up. #1 Caliche started their title defense by beating Soroco 30 to 18. #2 Norwood opened up the season by beating Mancos 50 to 12 and #7 Sedgwick County blasted Creek Valley (Neb) 94 to 8. The lone top ten match-up in week Zero pitted #8 Springfield vs #10 Sargent. Sargent scored the upset 40 to 28 to avenge last year’s loss to Springfield. This week we have 9 of the top 10 teams in action with the lone bye going to Sargent. There are no top ten match-ups this week in 8-Man but a few good match ups are still present. #2 Norwood faces off against Dove Creek. This game used to be a league game till conference realignment separated these two teams. Last year Norwood blasted Dove Creek. Norwood is looking to finally capture that elusive state title and a win here will be a good step in that direction. Another good match-up will be #5 Hoehne at McClave. Both of these teams are playoff teams from a year ago. Hoehne was beat in the quarterfinals a year ago and McClave was beat in the first round. Hoehne is looking to build off of last year and take the next step. Last year Hoehne won this game. The Last match-up to watch for is #9 Simla vs Haxtun. Simla is coming off a good playoff run upsetting #2 seed Norwood and reaching the semi-finals before being beat by eventual state champions Caliche. Haxtun on the other hand took last place in the toughest league in 8-Man. They did grab a big victory in zero week by blasting Las Animas 69 to 0, they are looking to make the playoffs this year and challenge the top teams in their league. Simla won this meeting a year ago.
Week Zero featured 3 games 1 of which was a top ten match-up and the other had a top ten team playing. The top ten match-up featured #8 North Park vs #5 Peetz. #5 Peetz was upset by #8 North park in a game that was not close 60 to 28. The other game was #10 Otis vs Weldon Valley and Otis won easily 50 to 7. This week features 9 top ten teams playing with 2 top ten match-ups. The first of the top ten match-ups is #1 Fleming vs #8 North Park. Fleming is coming off a semi-finals appearance where they lost to eventual state champions Arickaree/Woodlin. This year Fleming is focusing in on a State Championship. North Park opened with a huge upset of Peetz and are looking to build off that momentum and possibly upset the #1 team in 6-man. These two teams faced off last year with Fleming grabbing the victory. The other top ten match-up is #3 Arickaree/Woodlin at #5 Peetz. Arickaree/Woodlin is looking to defend their state title and they start that defense with a match-up against Peetz who gave Arickaree/Woodlin all they could handle last year. Peetz will be looking to rebound off a loss last week and grab their own upset. Arickaree/Woodlin won this match-up a year ago and should be another good game.
