MileHigh Prep Report Final Football Power Rankings

My final power rankings of the season for Football.  I am only using the 16 teams that qualified for the playoffs and I will rank all 16 teams.  Seeding is somewhat important but is not the only determining factor.

Class 2A                                                                    Last Week

1.     Resurrection Christian (9-0) 2
2.     Bayfield (7-1) 4
3.     La Junta (9-0) 3
4.     Platte Valley (9-0) 1
5.     Kent Denver (8-1) 6
6.     Salida (8-1) 5
7.     Rifle (8-1) 8
8.    Faith Christian (7-2) 9
9.     Basalt (8-1) 10
10.    Berthoud (6-3) 15
11.    Eaton (6-3) 7
12.    D’Evelyn (7-2) 11
13.    Aspen (6-3) 10
14.    Delta (6-3) 13
15.    Montezuma-Cortez (4-5) NR
16.    Alamosa (4-4) NR
· Notes: I moved some teams around in the Top 4 moving Bayfield up to #2 after their win over Salida.  Platte Valley drops to #4 and have played just one tough opponent since their non-league schedule ended.  Some very intriguing matchups in the first round which we will dive into more this week.

Class 1A                                                                     Last Week

1.     Limon (9-0) 1 (11 weeks)
2.     Strasburg (8-1) 2
3.     Peyton (9-0) 3
4.     Colorado Springs Christian (8-1) 4
5.    Burlington (7-2) 5
6.     Holyoke (7-2) 7
7.     Florence (7-2) 6
8.     Meeker (6-2) 8
9.     Centauri (7-2) 9
10.   Wray (5-4) (6-3) 10
11.    Crowley County (7-2) 11
12.    Paonia (6-3) 12
13.    Monte Vista (5-4) 15
14.    Highland (6-3) 14
15.    Platte Canyon (6-3) 13
16.    Buena Vista (4-5) 16
· Notes:  No changes at all and I think the selection committee did a great job seeding the 1A bracket.  Some very good games in round one will be Meeker vs Holyoke, Florence vs Wray, Burlington vs Paonia, and Centauri vs Crowley County.  I think the 1A field is about as good as it could have been.

Class 8 man                                                           Last Week

1.     Sedgwick County (7-1) 1 (11 weeks)
2.     West Grand (9-0) 2
3.     Hoehne (8-1) 3
4.     Mancos (9-0) 4
5.     Caliche (7-2) 5
6.     Rangely (8-1) 6
7.     Sargent (7-2) (8-1) 7
8.     Holly (7-2) 8
9.     Fowler (7-2) 9
10.    Merino (5-4) NR
11.    Dayspring Christian (4-4) NR
12.    Pikes Peak Christian (8-1) 12
13.    Akron (5-4) 10
14.    Vail Christian (7-2) 13
15.    Simla (7-1) 14
16. Front Range Christian (6-2) NR
Notes:   Sedgwick County lost to Merino and made for a tough decision for the final power rankings.  I decided to keep Sedgwick County #1.  They seem to play even better after a loss and it was their loss to Perkins County 30 games ago that started their long winning streak.

Class 6 man                                                            Last Week

1.     Kit Carson (8-0) 2
2.     Stratton/Liberty (8-1) 1
3.    Peetz (6-2) 3
4.     Prairie (6-3) 4
5.     Arickaree/Woodlin (6-2) 5
6.     Otis (6-3) 6
7.     Mountain Valley (8-0) 7
8.     Fleming (6-3) 10
9.     Cheyenne Wells (5-3) 9
10.    Granada (5-4) 10
11.    Idalia (4-5) 8
12.    Flagler/Hi Plains (4-5) NR
13.    Genoa-Hugo (5-3) 12
14.    Cotopaxi (7-2) 13
15.    North Park (3-5) 14
16.  Manzanola (5-3) 16
Notes: A new #1 this week as Kit Carson beat Stratton/Liberty.   They just switch places.  3 thru 7 remain the same.  Fleming beat Idalia to move up to #8.
