Congratulation Yuma on winning the Class 2A State Championship!  Class 2A State Tournament Recap

First off congratulations to Yuma on repeating as Class 2A state champions.  They sweep 3 of their 4 matches in the tournament.  Yuma showed why they were ranked #1 all year and rarely dropped any sets through the year!

Class 2A Tournament Recap

In Class 2A the first round had every match go 3-2 and two upsets also occurred.  Holly vs Vail Mountain was the first match of the tournament.  Holly pulled the first small upset beating Vail Mountain 3-2.  Swink vs Limon was also a very good match and Swink pulled the 3-2 and Del Norte also won 3-2 over Byers.  The second upset of the first round was #10 Lyons over #7 Rye 3-2.  The final set was a good one but Lyons was able to pull off the win.  The second round of the day went as seeded as well.  Yuma came out firing on all cylinders and sweep Holly 3-0.  Yuma was very impressive and look poised for a run in the tournament.  #4 Wiggins faced off against Swink in the second match.  Wiggins also came out solid and sweep Swink 3-0.  Wiggins was challenged in all three matches but they were able to close out the matches and advance.  The best game of the second round was between Meeker and Del Norte.  Meeker quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead winning 25-12 and 25-20.  Del Norte though never gave up and won two straight sets 25-21, 25-17 to force the match to a fifth set.  Meeker though was able to power through and beat Del Norte 15-10.  This match just showed that both teams are very good and should see them deeper into the tournament.  The final match of the day was #2 Denver Christian and #10 Lyons.  Denver Christian was challenged by a tough Lyons teams, but Denver Christian was able to pull off the sweep winning 25-21, 27-25, and 25-19.  Friday we started with the contenders bracket and 4 1st round matches.  The first match of the morning was a thrilling 3-2 win for Swink over Byers.  The second match was Rye vs Holly.  Rye who was upset in the first round won the first two sets and snagged the momentum need to beat Holly 3-1.  Vail Mountain also bounced back nicely after their first round loss beating a tough Lyons team 3-2.  The final match of the first round of the contenders bracket was a good one.  #6 Del Norte faced #12 Limon.  Limon was the one team who seemed to find their stride at the end of the year and it showed pulling the 3-2 upset of Del Norte.  Del Norte played tough but came up just short.  We jumped back into the Championship side of the bracket and we would find out are first two teams in the Semifinals.  Yuma stayed focused and sweep Wiggins.  Yuma was dominate again and is the first team to move into the semifinals.  In the other Championship bracket game #2 Denver Christian faced #3 Meeker.  Denver Christian took control of the match early winning the first set 25-20.  Denver Christian never looked back and swept Meeker.  Denver Christian punched their ticket into the Semifinals.  Meeker would hope to bounce back on Saturday.  We ended Friday with two the 2nd round of the contender bracket.  Limon with the momentum gained from their upset pulled yet another upset beating Vail Mountain 3-1.  Rye pulled an upset sweeping Swink 3-0 and moving into Saturday.  5 matches remained and a state champion to be crowned.  #3 Meeker vs #7 Rye started the day and what a match it was.  Meeker and Rye traded sets and a fifth and final set was needed.  Meeker was able to punch their ticket into the semifinals beating Rye 15-13.  The final Contenders match was #4 Wiggins vs #12 Limon.  Wiggins used their experience and were able to snag the first two sets.  Limon never gave up and won set #3 25-22.  Wiggins then bounced back and won the fourth set to punch their ticket into the semifinals.  The Semifinals was set and three matches were needed to determine are state champion.  #1 Yuma vs #3 Meeker started the semifinals off.  Yuma took the early 2-0 lead but Meeker played tough in both sets.  Meeker then was able to grab a set win 25-11.  The win by Meeker looked to be what they needed but Yuma showed their toughness and grabbed the 25-22 win over Meeker and the 3-1 win.  In semifinal #2, #2 Denver Christian faced #4 Wiggins.  This match looked like a good one, but Denver Christian came out with fire and sweeping Wiggins 3-0.  Denver Christian was dominate winning 25-18, 25-13, and 25-18.  The State Championship was set #1 Yuma vs #2 Denver Christian.  The match kicked off with a very good set 1.  Yuma was able to grab the 25-21 win and that was the only set Denver Christian would keep closer.  Yuma in set #2 and #3 were dominate and grabbed 25-14 win.
