MileHigh Prep Report Preseason Rankings Class 2A

For Class 2A I really think it’s wide open this year and I know with COVID-19 things are not normal. I am basing the rankings on a normal set of circumstances because I do not know what each team is doing with COVID-19.  Remember this is just my take on the rankings.  I am reposting my Class 2A Rankings removing the teams playing in the Spring.  I will have a different Ranking for the spring season.

Note: I am just going to quickly give the rankings and a quick breakdown of what they are returning.  I try and get a league by league breakdown.

Class 2A

RankTeamNotes
#1Delta HS   Made the playoffs, Runner-UpDelta loses some key leadership on defense and offense but return plenty of talent for another deep run.  Delta returns at least 2 starters on the offensive line and QB Nolan Bynum will look to have another huge season.  Defensively Delta returns 6 of their 11 top tacklers but have key holes to fill.  Look for James Goff to really step up as the leader of the Delta defense.
#2Resurrection Christian   Made the playoffs, lost in Semifinals.Resurrection Christian loses 9 seniors from last years team including key contributors on the offensive side of the ball.  Resurrection Christian will be looking to replace their QB and at least 2 of their starting offensive line.  What Resurrection Christian returns is talent at RB and plenty of players willing to step up on the offensive line.  Defensively Resurrection Christian is loaded with talent with 7 of their top 11 tacklers returning including their defensive leader in Tanner Applebee.  Resurrection Christian may need to rely on their defense early on.
#3Lamar HS   Made the playoffs, lost in Quarterfinals.Lamar loses 9 seniors off an 8-3 season and a trip to the Quarterfinals.  Lamar will be returning a lot of talent at the skill position with QB Zane Rankin returning along with talent at the WR position.  The running back position will need someone to really step up this season and look for Jesus Reyes to fill the hole.  On the offensive line Lamar loses at least 2 starting linemen if not more.  Defensively Lamar will look to improve this season to at least a top 20 defense with 7 of their 11 tacklers returning.  Lamar will be looking for a leader on defense, but this team should improve this season on defense.
#4Eaton HS   Made the playoffs, lost in the first roundEaton lose 9 seniors from last years 6-4 team.  Eaton continues to bring a dominating defense to the table and this year will be no difference.  Eaton return 7 of their 11 top tacklers but will look for a leader to step up this season.  Eaton had the top defense last season which was the reason for them winning games.  This season Eaton should be much more of a threat of offense with QB Scott Grable and RB Gage Butler returning.  Eaton will have a few holes on the Offensive Line to replace but Eaton should be a team to watch this season.
#5Sterling HS   Defending State ChampionsSterling is your defending State Champions.  Sterling will be losing 11 seniors from that state championship team but will be looking to reload and try and defend their title.  Offensively Sterling will be looking for a new QB and possibly 3 or 4 starters on the offensive line.  Defensively Sterling will return some key pieces but will be looking for some upcoming Seniors and Junior to really step up this season.  Tradition is a big piece of having a tough team and look for Sterling to still be tough this season.
#6D’Evelyn HS   Missed the playoffs, went 5-4 last yearD’Evelyn missed the playoffs a season ago and will have a new coach this season.  D’Evelyn will return plenty of talent though and lose just 8 seniors from last year’s team.  Offensively QB Shane Bishop is back along with 2 or 3 starters on the offensive line.  Defensively D’Evelyn is return a lot of talent as well with 7 of their 11 top tacklers returning.  D’Evelyn will have their leader on defense back Jacob Rose and this defense could be a top 10 defense this season.  D’Evelyn will be looking to dethrone Faith Christian this season.
#7Pagosa Springs HS   Made the playoffs, lost in the first roundPagosa Springs made the playoffs last season and return plenty of talent to try and repeat that.  Pagosa Springs lose 9 seniors from last years team.  Offensively Pagosa Springs could be losing 3 starting offensive linemen but look to have plenty of talent coming back.  QB Grant Aucoin and RB Wil Aucoin will be back and should help make this offense very tough to handle.  Defensively Pagosa will look to improve to a top 20 defense and have the talent coming back to do so.  Pagosa Springs returns 7 of their 11 top tacklers but will look for a leader to emerge.
#8Platte Valley HS   Made the playoffs, lost in the QuarterfinalsPlatte Valley always seem to just reload and never rebuild, and I think that will be the case again this season.  Platte Valley lose 10 seniors from last years team.  Offensively Platte Valley will have a few holes on the offensive line to fill with 3 starters graduating.  They do look to have a big upcoming senior class and will need kids to really step up on that side.  QB Kade Mcdaniel returns for his second year at the starting QB position.  Platte Valley will be looking for a player to step up at the RB position, but this unit will still be tough.  Defensively Platte Valley was hit hard by graduation losing 7 of their 11 top tacklers but have some leaders returning and they will have to step up to lead this young defensive unit.
#9Englewood HS     Made the playoffs, lost in first roundEnglewood got into the playoffs last season and is huge experience for this team.  Englewood will be returning a very talented roster with just 6 seniors graduating.  Offensively the biggest whole Englewood must fill will be at the QB position along with 1 or 2 starters on the offensive line.  Englewood offensively will be inexperienced but once this unit comes together watch out.  Defensively Englewood is loaded.  Englewood returns 8 of their 11 top tacklers and this unit should be a top 10 unit.  Englewood may need their defense early in the season and I think will be the difference for this team.
#10Alamosa HS   Missed the playoffs, went 6-3 last yearAlamosa had a solid season under first year head coach Drew Sandlin.  Alamosa will be losing a big senior class but have the talent returning to be a tough team.  Offensively Alamosa has the most holes to fill.  Alamosa will be looking to replace their QB, RB, and top WR.  Alamosa will possibly turn to QB Kasey Jones and RB Cash Mueller.  The offensive line for Alamosa may also be looking at 3 or 4 holes to fill as well but plenty of younger kids should fill the holes.  Defensively Alamosa looks to be extremely tough.  Alamosa returns 6 of their 11 top tacklers but have key leaders in Cash Mueller and Donovan Ramirez back.  Alamosa may need their defense early on to carry them, but I think this team can be a playoff team this season.
