MileHigh Prep Report Preseason Class 1A Football Rankings

Last year’s Football season was very interesting.  Limited number of games and teams either playing Fall or Spring season.  Class 1A looks to have some very tough teams but Limon will look to defend their crown.  There are plenty of very good team in Class 1A and should make for a fun season.

Class 1A

RankTeamNotes
#1Limon HS

Defending State Champions, Fall Season Class 1A
Limon is your defending State Champions. They will be looking for the 4peat. Limon will have a few key pieces to replace but plenty of talent coming back to defend their state Title. QB Trey Hines and RB Jeremiah Leeper are both back to a lead a talented skill position group. The offensive line for Limon will be tough with key experience back. Defensively Limon will have some key spot to replace but they do return 6 of their top 13 Tacklers.
#2Centauri HS

Made the playoffs, lost in the Semifinals
Centauri reached the semifinals again this season and will be looking for the next step and a State Title. Centauri returns a lot of talent from last year’s team. Back up QB Byron Shawcroft will look to take the reins. RB Mason Claunch also returns and will be one of the best in 1A. The offensive line for Centauri also returns nearly intact with 4 starters back. Defensively Centauri will be one of the best in the state with 11 of their top 13 tacklers back.
#3North Fork HS

Made the playoffs, lost in the First Round.
Hotchkiss and Paonia combine this year to form North Fork HS.  Paonia did not reach the playoffs but Hotchkiss reached the playoffs last season but fell in the first round to Wray.  The combination will bring a lot of experience to both teams and should make the dangerous.  Hotchkiss alone returns 4 starters on the offensive line and defensively both Paonia and Hotchkiss bring key players to help fill the team.  QB will be the biggest question mark for North Fork this season.
#4Holyoke

Made the playoffs, lost in the first round
Holyoke was a young team a season ago but were still able to reach the playoffs and will be a big threat this year.  Holyoke returns QB Miles Sprague along with RB Carlos Legarreta, and WR Wyatt Sprague.  Holyoke offensive line will return at least 3 starters.  Defensively Holyoke returns 11 of their top 13 tacklers and could be one of the better 1A defenses this year.  Holyoke should be a big threat again this season.
#5Buena Vista

Made the playoffs, lost in the semifinals Class 2A Spring Season
Buena Vista played in the spring season a year ago and reached the semifinals.  Buena Vista returns a lot of talent and will look to make a deep playoff run. Buena Vista returns their QB Haden Camp and RB Jacob Phelps.  The offensive line for Buena Vista will return at least 3 starters and the defense for Buena Vista will return 9 of their top 13 tacklers.
#6Strasburg

Made the playoffs, Runner-up
Strasburg was the runner up a year ago and lose a very talented senior class.  Strasburg will be looking to replace most of their skill positions, but the offensive line looks to have plenty of size coming back to help this young group.  The defense for Strasburg will be the anchor of this team returning 7 of their top 13 tacklers.  Strasburg is always well coached, so I see this as a reload instead of a rebuild.
#7Highland   Missed the playoffs, went 5-2 Fall SeasonHighland missed the playoffs last season but went 5-2.  Highland will be looking to replace some key pieces at the skill position mainly at RB.  QB Sam Hzindil is back and should lead and explosive high-flying offense.  The offensive line for Highland returns 3 starters and plenty of depth behind them.  The defense for Highland returns just 5 of their top 13 tacklers so this will be the biggest hole to fill for Highland but key players return on this side of the ball as well.
#8Florence

Made the playoffs, lost in the first round
Florence made the playoffs a year ago but fell in the first round to Centauri.  Florence will lose a key leader but have talent coming back to try and push for a deeper playoff run.  Florence returns QB Lincoln Nix and RB Jacob Kennedy.  Florence offensive line returns half of their starters and should help power a solid offensive attack.  The defense returns 6 of their top 13 tacklers and the main question mark will be leadership.
#9Wray

Made the playoffs, lost in the Semifinals
Wray reached the semifinals a year ago but were hit hard by graduation at the skill position.  Wray offensive line will also be looking for some key players to fill holes. The defense for Wray returns 6 of their top 13 tacklers but have plenty of young kids looking to move into starting roles.  Wray could be a year out from really pushing for another deep run.
#10Peyton

Missed the playoffs, went 4-2 Fall Season
Peyton missed the playoffs last season but finished the year at 4-2.  Peyton returns their starting QB Gunner Graham along with their #2 RB Dresden Howeth.  Peyton offensive line will be one of their biggest strengths returning at least 3 starters if not 4.  The defense will also be extremely tough returning 9 of their top 13 tacklers.  Leadership on defense will be the biggest loss.
#11Monte Vista

Missed the playoffs, went 5-2 Fall Season
Monte Vista missed the playoffs last season but went 5-2.  Monte Vista has plenty of talent back for a deep run this season.  Monte Vista returns QB Colton Mellott along with their #2 RB Hunter Pacheco.  Monte Vista will return 3 starters on the offensive line and the defense should be tough returning 7 of their top 13 tacklers.
#12Meeker

Made the playoffs, lost in the first round
Meeker made the playoffs last season but fell in the first round.  Meeker will be without longtime starter Ryan Phelan at QB as he graduated.  Meeker will look to replace him at QB.  Meeker returns RB Kelton Turner and he will look to anchor the offense.  The offensive line for Meeker will also look for plenty of younger kids to step up.  The defense for Meeker will be extremely tough returning 8 of their top 13 tacklers and look for them to anchor this team.
#13Yuma

Missed the playoffs, went 4-3 Fall Season
Yuma did not make the playoffs a year ago but finished the season at 4-3.  Yuma returns QB Clay Robinson and he will lead a talented skill position group for Yuma.  The offensive line is the biggest concern for Yuma with possibly only 1 starter returning for them.  Defensively Yuma returns 7 of their top 13 tacklers but have lots of leadership back.
#14Grand Valley

Made the playoffs, lost in first round spring season
Grand Valley played in the spring season and reached the playoffs in Class 2A.  Grand Valley was a young team a year ago and should be tough this year.  Grand Valley returns their QB, RB, and top WR this season.  Grand Valley also returns at least 3 starters on the offensive line along with 8 of their top 13 tacklers on defense.
#15Estes Park

Made the playoffs, lost in Semifinals spring season
Estes Park played in the spring season and reach the playoffs in Class 2A.  Estes Park had a big turnaround last season winning 5 games, but the main question mark is can it translate to the fall season.  Estes Park returns QB Collin Reetz who threw of 2000 yards.  The biggest question is who plays RB and WR come this fall.  The offensive line for Estes Park looks to be in solid shape returning at least 3 starters.  Defensively Estes Park returns 6 of their top 13 tacklers and leadership will be the main question mark.
#16Wiggins

Missed the playoffs, went 2-5 Fall Season
Wiggins missed the playoffs a season ago but the league schedule they played was brutal.  It does not get much easier this season but they are a year older and should be poised for a playoff run.  QB Cole Kerr is a year older and one of his top targets Omar Perez is back.  The offensive line for Wiggins is in good shape with 3 possibly 4 starters back.  Defensively Wiggins has a lot of improvement to do but returning 11 of your top 13 tacklers will help.  We will see how much they improve this season.
