6-Man Football League Predictions Update Week 6

We are 5 weeks thru the regular season and league play has started.  Branson/Kim and Sierra Grande have locked up league titles and automatic berths into the playoffs.    I have eliminated a few more teams from the playoff hunt.  Next week I will look to lock a few teams into the playoffs following a big week of games.  My playoff predictions and projections will be posted in a separate article.

North League

1. Fleming

2. Prairie

3. Briggsdale

4. North Park

5. Peetz

6. Weldon Valley

7. Pawnee

Fleming stays as my pick to win the North League.  Fleming moved to 4-1 on the season blasting North Park 72-8.  Fleming will face Weldon Valley this week before their schedule really kicks up.  Fleming will face Briggsdale, Prairie, Idalia, and Cheraw in the next 4 weeks.  Prairie stays as my pick to finish second.  Prairie moved to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in league play with a 77-0 win over Pawnee.  Prairie schedule picks up this week when they host Briggsdale.  Prairie will be tested this week on both sides of the ball.  Briggsdale moved to 5-0 on the season with a 63-16 win over Peetz.  Briggsdale will look to move into the #2 spot if they can beat Prairie.  Should be a good game.  North Park dropped to 2-3 on the season and sit at #18 in the RPI.  North Park will have a make-or-break game this week against Peetz.  Winner will have a really good shot at the playoffs loser could be in trouble.  Peetz is coming off a 63-16 loss to Briggsdale.  Peetz sits at #15 currently in the RPI and as mentioned the winner will have a good shot at the playoffs.

In the Playoff Hunt

Fleming, Prairie, Briggsdale, North Park, Peetz

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Pawnee, Weldon Valley

RPI Standings (As of 9/28)

#5 Fleming, #8 Briggsdale, #9 Prairie, #15 Peetz, #18 North Park, #23 Pawnee, #24 Weldon Valley

East Central League

1. Stratton

2. Idalia

3. Arickaree/Woodlin

4. Otis

5. Hi-Plains

6. Flagler

Stratton is my pick to win the East Central League.  Stratton moved to 3-1 on the season with a 73-6 win over Arickaree/Woodlin.  That win should guarantee Stratton at least a top 2 finish in league.  Stratton will face Idalia this week and this will probably be for the league title.  This will be a very physical game.  Idalia also improved to 3-1 on the season with a 54-14 win over Hi-Plains.  Idalia must still face Arickaree/Woodlin but I believe this game will be for the league title.  Arickaree/Woodlin dropped to 2-2 on the season and will look to bounce back against rival Otis this week.  Arickaree/Woodlin is still very much in the playoff hunt but a loss to Otis could hurt.  Otis sits at 2-3 currently and is coming off a 76-14 win over Deer Trail.  That wins kept them in the playoff hunt and now they look for a big win over rival Arickaree/Woodlin.  Hi-Plains is still in the playoff hunt but have a must win this week against Kit Carson.  A loss to Kit Carson and Hi-Plains playoff hunt will probably be over.

In Playoff Hunt

Eliminated from Playoff Hunt

RPI Standings (As of 9/28)

#3 Stratton, #4 Idalia, #12 Arickaree/Woodlin, #14 Otis, #20 Hi-Plains, #29 Flagler

Central League

1. Genoa-Hugo

2. Hanover

3. Deer Trail

4. Kiowa

Genoa-Hugo is my pick to win the Central League.  Genoa-Hugo moved to 4-0 and 2-0 in league with a 75-56 win over Hanover.  This win puts them in the driver’s seat to win the Central League.  Genoa-Hugo this week will face Miami-Yoder and should improve to 5-0 on the season.  Hanover dropped to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in league play following the tough 75-56 loss to Genoa-Hugo.  Hanover will face Kiowa this Saturday and should bounce back.  Hanover currently sits at #17 in the RPI and cannot drop this game to Kiowa.  Deer Trail dropped to 2-2 on the season and fell out of the top 16 of the RPI.  Deer Trail lost to Otis 76-14 and now are at #19 in the RPI.  Deer Trail has a must win against Primero this week.  Deer Trail will probably need to beat Hanover to get into the playoffs.

RPI Standings (As of 9/28)

#6 Genoa-Hugo, #17 Hanover, #19 Deer Trail, #27 Kiowa

South East League

1. Cheyenne Wells

2. Granada

3. Cheraw

4. Eads

5. Walsh

6. Kit Carson

Cheyenne Wells is in the driver’s seat to win the league title.  Cheyenne Wells moved to 5-0 on the season following the 84-6 win over Eads this past week.  Cheyenne Wells will have two more league games and a win over Walsh this week will give them a minimum of a share of the league title.  Walsh is coming off a 46-28 win over Kit Carson this past week.  Walsh stays in the playoff hunt and now look for an upset of Cheyenne Wells.  Walsh sits at #21 in the RPI, and we will have to keep an eye on what their RPI does.  Granada bounced back nicely this week beating Cheraw 62-29.  Granada keeps pace behind Cheyenne Wells.  Granada will face Flagler this week.  Granada should improve to 4-1 on the season.  Cheraw dropped to 3-2 on the season and 2-1 in league play.  Cheraw will look to stay in the #3 spot when they host Eads this week.  Cheraw is still in good shape looking at the playoffs.  Eads currently sits at 2-3 overall and 1-2 in league play.  If Eads can upset Cheraw, they will be in good shape for a top 3 finish in league.  Eads currently sits at #13 in the RPI and are on the bubble but have a solid schedule that should get them into the playoffs.  Kit Carson falls out of the playoff hunt this week following the loss to Walsh.  Kit Carson could move back in but will need a big upset.

South Central League

1. Branson/Kim

2. Primero

Branson/Kim has won the South Central League and now have the automatic berth into the playoffs.  Branson/Kim now will focus on trying to improve their RPI and their seed heading into the playoffs.  Branson/Kim has two big games remaining on their schedule against Granada on 10/15 and Sierra Grande on 10/30.  These two games will have huge implications towards seeding in the playoffs.

Southwest League

1. Sierra Grande

2. Mountain Valley

3. Cotopaxi

4. La Veta

5. Cripple Creek

Sierra Grande has locked up the league championship and have 1 league game remaining against Cripple Creek on 10/9.  Sierra Grande now looks to improve their seed come playoffs.  Sierra Grande has two big games remaining on their schedule against Arickaree/Woodlin on 10/16 and Branson/Kim on 10/30.  Both games have big implications on seeding for the playoffs.  Mountain Valley is still in the playoff hunt at 3-2 overall.  Mountain Valley currently sits at #16 in the RPI and winning out may be the only way they get into the playoffs.  Mountain Valley has a big game against Eads to close out the year.  Watching what Mountain Valley RPI does will be key.  Cotopaxi is near elimination from the playoff hunt.  Cotopaxi currently is 0-4.  Cotopaxi has must win games this week and next week against Cripple Creek and La Veta.  We will see what their RPI sits at in 2 weeks.  La Veta has been eliminated from the playoff hunt following their 45-34 loss to Weldon Valley.
