Class 2A League Predictions and Playoff Predictions Week 6

Class 2A League Predictions and Playoff Predictions Week 6

We head into the 6th week of the season, and we start league play this week.  Some huge games take place this week and will have big implications on the playoff race and league title race.  Playoff Predictions and Projections will be in a separate article.  (Can always use more Class 2A pictures!!!!!!)

Colorado League

Elizabeth is my pick to win the Colorado League.  Elizabeth is probably the favorite for most people as well.  Elizabeth enters league play at 3-2 overall and coming off a 61-0 win over Fort Lupton.  Elizabeth opens league play against Englewood.  Elizabeth must be effective on the ground and their defense must be tough thru the air.  Englewood enters the game at 1-3-1 and coming off a tough 24-7 loss to Northfield.  Englewood better be prepared on defensively to stop the run.  Englewood is on the verge of being eliminated form the playoff hunt.  Englewood sits at #32 and needs a quality win.  Kent Denver is my pick to finish in the top 3 of the Colorado League.  Kent Denver enters league play at 2-2 and are coming off a tough loss to The Academy 42-21.  Kent Denver opens league play against Denver West.  This is a big game to determine a team in the top 3 of league.  Kent Denver must have a big day on the ground.  Denver West enters league play at 2-2 and are coming off a 48-2 win over Jefferson.  Denver West has been somewhat of a surprise this year and if they can upset Kent Denver could give themselves a shot at the playoffs.  Alameda has a bye this week.  They sit at #24 in the RPI and are still in the playoff hunt but will need some big wins in league to move into a top 16 spot.

In the Playoff Hunt

Elizabeth, Englewood, Kent Denver, Denver West, Alameda

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

None

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#9 Elizabeth, #13 Kent Denver, #23 Denver West, #24 Alameda, #32 Englewood,

Flatirons League

The Flatirons League is probably going to only get the league champion into the playoffs.  Faith Christian is my pick to win the Flatirons League.  Faith Christian is currently 1-3 but have played a tough non-league schedule.  Faith Christian opens league play against Northfield who should finish top 3 in league.  Faith Christian must get their offense going and should be in this game.  Northfield enters league play at 2-2 and coming off a solid 24-7 win over Englewood. Northfield is looking for a league title but must get by the normal league champion right away.  This will be a solid test for both teams.  D’Evelyn is my pick to finish 2nd in the Flatirons League.  D’Evelyn enters league play at 1-3 overall and coming off a bye.  D’Evelyn opens league play against Middle Park.  This is a must win for both teams especially in terms of the league title race.  Arvada enters league play at 1-1.  Arvada opens league against Pinnacle and is a must win game.  Loser of Arvada and Pinnacle will be out of the league title race.

In the Playoff Hunt (Will need the league title)

Middle Park, Pinnacle

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#16 Northfield, #21 Faith Christian, #26 D’Evelyn, #30 Arvada, #37 Middle Park, #38 Pinnacle

Patriot East League

Platte Valley is my pick to win the Patriot East League.  Platte Valley moved to 2-2 on the season following the 41-21 win over Berthoud.  This game was much closer than it looked but Platte Valley grabbed the win.  Platte Valley opens league play against Brush, and this could be for the league title right away.  Platte Valley will have to be physical on both sides of the ball if they plan on winning this game.  Brush enters league play at 2-2 and are coming off a 42-8 win over Estes Park.  Brush will have a chance to take control of the league title race right away.  Brush must establish the line of scrimmage and we will see who comes out of this very important league matchup.  Weld Central is my pick to finish top 3 in league.  Weld Central enters league play at 1-3-1 and will face Sterling right off the bat.  Weld Central must beat Sterling to show they deserve a top 3 finish and a shot at the playoffs.  If Weld Central loses to Sterling they will probably need to beat Platte Valley or Brush.  Sterling enters league play at 0-4 and are coming off a bye.  Sterling will look to rebound now that they enter league play.  Sterling sits at #20 in the RPI but a win over Weld Central will put them in good position.  This is a must win for Sterling.  Valley and Fort Lupton are eliminated from the playoffs.

In the Playoff Hunt

Brush, Platte Valley, Weld Central, Sterling

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Valley, Fort Lupton

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#7 Brush, #12 Platte Valley, #18 Weld Central, #20 Sterling, #29 Valley, #33 Fort Lupton

Patriot West League

The Patriot West could easily see as many as 5 teams make the playoffs this year.  Eaton stays as my pick to win the Patriot West.  Eaton is currently 4-0 and picked up the 50-7 win over Faith Christian.  Eaton defensively has yet to give up over 7 points this year.  Eaton opens league play against The Academy.  Eaton will have to deal with a dual threat QB and offensively must be physical at the line of scrimmage.  The Academy enters league plat at 4-0 and are coming off a 49-0 win over Prospect Ridge.  The Academy has played a weak schedule so far with their best win over Kent Denver.  The Academy will have a chance to prove they are a real threat this week against Eaton.  The Academy will have to be physical on defense to pull the upset.  Resurrection Christian is my pick to finish 2nd.  Resurrection Christian enter league play at 3-0.  Resurrection Christian is coming off an impressive 35-20 win over 3A Holy Family.  Resurrection Christian played extremely and proved there are a real threat in Class 2A.  Resurrection Christian opens league play against Berthoud who pushed Platte Valley last week.  Berthoud this game at 1-3 and I eliminated them from the playoff hunt.  If Berthoud upsets Resurrection Christian, they can quickly move back into the hunt.  Severance is my pick to finish top 3 in league.  Severance enters league play at 4-0 and coming off a bye.  Severance opened league play against University. Severance grabbed the 34-13 win over University on Thursday Night. Severance took a big step towards finishing inside the top 3 of league and probably locked up a playoff spot. University drops to 3-2 overall.  University is coming off a bye week and should be ready for Severance.  University will look to bounce back next week against Eaton. University will still be in prime position to make the playoffs.

In the Playoff Hunt

Eaton, Resurrection Christian, Severance, The Academy, University

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Berthoud

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#2 Severance, #5 Resurrection Christian, #6 Eaton, #10 University, #11 The Academy, #35 Berthoud

Southwest League

#1 Alamosa

#2 Bayfield

#3 Pagosa Springs

#4 Montezuma-Cortez

#5 Salida

Alamosa is my pick to win the Southwest League.  Alamosa currently sits at 3-1 overall.  Alamosa picked up a 47-0 win over Manitou Springs last week and should be a good confidence boost heading into league play.  Alamosa opens league play against Pagosa Springs.  Alamosa must be ready defensively for a spread offensive attack from Pagosa.  Pagosa Springs currently sits at 1-3 and #25 in the RPI.  Pagosa Springs needs a quality win and an upset of Alamosa could do just that.  Bayfield is my pick to finish second in league.  Bayfield is scheduled to host Salida this week.  This is a must win for Bayfield to keep pace with the winner of Alamosa vs Pagosa Springs.  Salida has been eliminated from the playoff hunt but an upset of Bayfield could get them right back in.  Montezuma-Cortez has a non-league game against Manitou Springs and is a must win game for both teams.  Montezuma-Cortez sits at #28 in the RPI and will be eliminated if they lose to Manitou Springs.

In the Playoff Hunt

Alamosa, Bayfield, Pagosa Springs, Montezuma-Cortez

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Salida

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#8 Alamosa, #14 Bayfield, #25 Pagosa Springs, #28 Montezuma-Cortez, #36 Salida

Tri-Peaks League

Classical Academy will be the heavy favorite and my pick to win the Tri-Peaks League.  TCA will enter league play at 3-0.  TCA opens league play against La Junta and will be a big step for the winner of the game.  TCA will have to deal with a physical La Junta team and should be a good game. La Junta enters league play at 2-2.  La Junta defeated Salida 45-22 last week.  La Junta will be looking for the upset and a shot to improve their RPI.  This is not a make-or-break game for La Junta, but we will have to see what happens with their RPI.  Lamar enters league play at 1-3 and coming off a 49-14 loss to Holyoke.  Lamar will look to bounce back and open league play against Woodland Park.  This is a must win game for Lamar and could eliminate them from the playoff hunt and league title hunt.  Woodland Park enters league play at 1-2 overall.  Woodland Park sits at #19 in the RPI and is also a must win game.  Woodland Park keeps both league title and playoff hope alive with a win.  Manitou Springs is also not eliminated from the playoff hunt.  Manitou Springs has a must win game against non-league opponent Montezuma-Cortez.

In the Playoff Hunt

Classical Academy, La Junta, Lamar, Woodland Park, Manitou Springs

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

None

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#1 Classical Academy, #19 Woodland Park, #22 La Junta, #27 Manitou Springs, #34 Lamar

West League

The West League is going to be tough this year and I think the top 4 teams can all win this league.  I am sticking with Rifle to win the league.  Rifle moves into league play at 2-2 overall.  Rifle opens league play against Aspen.  Rifle will look to get off on the right foot in league play and also improve their RPI.  Aspen was just eliminated from the playoff hunt, but an upset of Rifle will move them back in.  Delta is my pick to finish second in league.  Delta enters league play at 3-1 overall and coming off a bye.  Delta opens league play against Coal Ridge and should move to 4-1 overall.  Delta cannot lose this game as they are #15 in the RPI.  Basalt is my pick to finish 3rd in the league.  Basalt enters league play at 4-0 and coming off a bye.  Basalt opens league play against undefeated Moffat County.  This could be for a top 3 finish in league.  Basalt must have a solid defensive gameplan against the balanced attack of Moffat County.  Moffat County enters league at 4-0 and coming off a 51-15 win over 3A Kennedy.  Moffat County must be ready for an explosive offense and should be a great game.  This game has huge implications towards the playoffs and league title race.

In the Playoff Hunt

Basalt, Moffat County, Delta, Rifle

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Aspen, Coal Ridge

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#3 Moffat County, #4 Basalt, #15 Delta, #17 Rifle, #31 Aspen, #39 Coal Ridge
