6-Man Football Quarterfinal Prediction Breakdown
Playoff Football Time!! The first round is complete with no surprises and sets up a very good Quarterfinal round. My pick for best game is Idalia vs Fleming. Good Luck to all teams competing this weekend.
#1 Cheyenne Wells over #8 Prairie
Cheyenne Wells rolled into the Quarterfinals blasting Mountain Valley 73-14. Cheyenne Wells quickly built a lead and then cruised from there. Cheyenne Wells had solid performances in the first round from Cade Mitchek, Ty Scheler, and Evan Worley on the offensive side of the ball. Cheyenne Wells will matchup with Prairie in the quarterfinals which will be a rematch from just two weeks ago.
Prairie cruised into the Quarterfinals defeating Genoa-Hugo 47-15. Prairie quickly built a 28-0 lead at halftime then continued a strong showing to get the solid win over Genoa-Hugo. Prairie had a big day from QB Andy Long and RB Claytin Hove. Prairie will have revenge on the mind when they face Cheyenne Wells.
I am going with Cheyenne Wells over Prairie. Cheyenne Wells I believe has to many weapons and I believe one of the best RBs in 6-Man. I mentioned these two teams met up previously and Cheyenne Wells won that matchup 79-14 led by RB Cade Mitchek who had over 200 yards rushing. Prairie can pull the upset but would need there best defensive effort of the season and a huge performance from QB Andy Long. Cheyenne Wells must stick to what has worked and that is physical play on both sides of the ball. I think this is closer than the first meeting but going Cheyenne Wells over Prairie.
#4 Idalia over #5 Fleming
Idalia moved into the quarterfinals with a 62-13 win over Briggsdale in the first round. Idalia jumped out to a 48-7 lead at halftime and were dominate in the first half. Idalia was able to get rest to starters in the second half scoring another 14 points. Offensively Idalia was led by QB Tarek Glanz (105 yards passing), Kye Towns (117 yards rushing), and Yahir Enriquez (87 yards rushing). Idalia will have a rematch against Fleming and must be ready for the defending State Champions.
Fleming did not play a game in the first round receiving a forfeit win over Hanover. Fleming with a bye has time to regroup and heal from some bumps and bruises and get read for a rematch with Idalia. Fleming will look to their leaders this week against Idalia and should be a great game.
I am going with Idalia over Fleming. Idalia is playing really good football and must continue to lean on the leadership of Yahir Enriquez. Idalia and Fleming played on 10/22 with Idalia winning 32-24. Idalia must avoid giving up late points but also must continue the strong start they had against Fleming the first time around. Fleming will look to avoid a slow start and keep the running game in check. The first matchup between Fleming and Idalia was a great matchup and I expect a very similar result. I think Idalia gets the win over Fleming but expect a difference of 7 to 10 points again.
#3 Granada over #6 Sierra Grande
Granada advanced into the Quarterfinals blasting Hi-Plains 52-14. Granada scored all 52 points in the first half and had mercy rule going by halftime. Granada defensively was on top of their game and the starters did not give up an scores. Granada offensively had 130 yards passing from QB Dominic Coleman and RB John Hainer had 2 TDs. Granada will be facing Sierra Grande and should be a interesting matchup.
Sierra Grande escaped the upset attempt in the first round and grabbed the 39-36 win over Branson/Kim. Sierra Grande was leading 27-22 at halftime and extended their lead to 39-22 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Branson/Kim made a furious comeback cutting the lead to just 3 with a few minutes left to go in the 4th quarter. Sierra Grande was able to hold on and get the hard-fought win. Sierra Grande will now look to pull the upset this week against Granada.
I am going with Granada over Sierra Grande. These two teams did not meet during the regular season but have common opponents in Branson/Kim and Cotopaxi. Granada dominated both matchups winning 72-22 over Branson/Kim and 52-14 over Cotopaxi. Sierra Grande dominated Cotopaxi 56-0 and of course beat Branson/Kim 51-8 & 39-36. Sierra Grande will have to play their best game of the season to pull the upset. QB Isiah Chairez must have his best game this season and Sierra Grande defense must play physical football. Granada will turn to their physical style of defense and look for QB Dominic Coleman to control the game along with RB John Hainer. Granada will be the favorite in this game, and I think have the weapons to fluster Sierra Grande offense. I do think Sierra Grande will push Granada, but I am going with Granada over Sierra Grande.
#2 Stratton over #7 Cheraw
Stratton advanced into the Quarterfinals blasting Eads 73 to 8. Stratton scored 54 points in the first half and had the mercy rule going by halftime. Stratton was able to get rest to the starters plus big minutes to the JV kids in the second half. Stratton defensively flustered Eads getting 2 sacks and forcing 3 turnovers including 1 defensive TD. Offensively Stratton made quick work getting 4 TDs from RB Charlie Clapper and 2 from Riley Shean. Stratton will face Cheraw this week and they will face an offense who can put up points in bunches.
Cheraw moved into the quarterfinals defeating Arickaree/Woodlin in the first round 54-22. Cheraw had a dominate 3 quarters scoring 32 points by halftime and getting the mercy rule going in the 3rd Quarter. Cheraw defensively gave up just 6 points with their starters in and gave up the remaining 16 points in the 4th quarter once their starters were out. Cheraw offensively had a big game from QB Cade Phillips and RB/WR Daniel Escareno was all over the place with 141 all purpose yards. Cheraw will now have their sights set on an upset in the Quarterfinals.
I am going with Stratton over Cheraw. These two teams did not meet in the regular season but have common opponents. Stratton was 4-1 against these common opponents losing to Cheyenne Wells 52-37. Cheraw was 3-2 against the common opponents losing to Cheyenne Wells 45-6 and Idalia 66-12. Stratton beat Idalia 32-16. Cheraw will turn to their high scoring offense to try and pull this upset. Cheraw must have a breakout performance from QB Cade Phillips. I think if Cheraw limits turnovers and can keep scoring, they can push Stratton. Stratton will look to force a few turnovers and limit the big plays from Cheraw. Offensively look for Stratton to control the game. Stratton is my pick over Cheraw, but I expect a good game between these two.
