6-Man Football Semifinal Predictions and Breakdown
Playoff Football Time!! We are into the semifinals. The top 4 seeds have all advanced and should set up a great semifinal round. Both games should be good games and excited to see these matchups.
#1 Cheyenne Wells over #4 Idalia
Cheyenne Wells moved into the Semifinals with a 76-32 win over Prairie. Cheyenne Wells took an early 28-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and controlled the game from there. Defensively Cheyenne Wells gave up 352 yards of offense, but most seemed after the game was under control. Cheyenne Wells forced 2 INTs and 1 sack in the game. Offensively Cheyenne Wells racked up 399 yards of offense. Cade Mitchek led the way on Offense with 234 yards of total offense. QB Blake Gilmore also had a solid day for the Cheyenne Wells offense. Cheyenne Wells will now face a red hot Idalia team to reach the state championship.
Idalia moved into the Semifinals with a 64-28 win over Fleming. Idalia took an early 29-0 lead after the first quarter and took a 29-6 lead into halftime. Idalia pushed their lead farther out scoring 13 more points in the 3rd quarter. Both teams matched scores in the fourth quarter, but the first quarter was the difference in the game. Defensively Idalia played great in the first half limiting Fleming to just 6 points. Idalia forced 1 INT and 4 sacks in the game and Eduardo Estrada lead all tacklers with 26. Offensively Yahir Enriquez had a great game rushing for over 225 yards and Kye Towns also had a big game rushing for over 140 yards. Idalia will now look to upset the #1 overall seed.
I am going with Cheyenne Wells over Idalia. These teams have 5 common opponents. Idalia went 3-2 losing to Granada and Stratton. Cheyenne Wells went 5-0 against these opponents and beat Granada 77-20 and Stratton 52-37. Idalia will look to limit the rushing attack of Cheyenne Wells to get the win. Idalia defensively would need their best effort in this game. Offensively Idalia must have a big game from their rushing attack. Cheyenne Wells to win must be able to stop the rushing attack of Idalia. Offensively Cheyenne Wells will continue to lean on RB Cade Mitchek. I am going with Cheyenne Wells over Idalia due to the physical defense that Cheyenne Wells plays. I think Cheyenne Wells can limit the rushing attack of Idalia and that will cause problems for Idalia. I also think Cheyenne Wells offensively will be tough to stop.
#3 Granada over #2 Stratton
Stratton moved into the Semifinals with a 62-0 win over Cheraw. Stratton had a very good defensive game and limited the high-flying offense of Cheraw. Stratton forced 3 sacks and 9 TFL. Stratton was led in tackles by Riggins Williams. Offensively Stratton had a huge day racking up 454 yards of total offense. The rushing attack led the way with RB Charlie Clapper racking up 178 yards of rushing and RB Alex Cruz with another 90 yards. Stratton will now look to make another appearance in the State Championship.
Granada moved into the Semifinals with a 48-44 win over Sierra Grande. This was a very exciting game. Granada took a 28 to 19 lead into halftime. Sierra Grande would rally in the 3rd quarter outscoring Granada 13 to 0. Sierra Grande would take a 32 to 28 lead into the 3rd quarter. Both teams would trade scores and Granada would retake the lead with under 5 minutes to go 40-38. Sierra Grande was not done and would strike again with around 50 seconds left to take a 44-40 lead. Granada would then march down the field using their rushing attack and get into the red zone with around 15 seconds left. Granada would then get into the endzone with 6 second left and grab the 48-44 win over Sierra Grande. This was a great game by both teams. Defensively Granada gave up 332 yards passing but limited the rushing attack to 126 yards. Granada forced 5 fumbles in the game and were led in tackles by Dominic Coleman. Offensively Granada racked up 502 yards of total offense. Granada had a huge game from RB Jonus Guevara who had 239 yards rushing. QB Dominic Coleman also had a solid game with 161 yards of total offense. This was a great game but now Granada must refocus and look to make an appearance in the State Championship.
I flipped back and forth on this game and went with Granada over Stratton. These teams had 6 common opponents. Both teams went 5-1. Both teams lost to Cheyenne Wells. Granada lost 77-20 and Stratton lost 52-37. I believe this is going to be a great game between two different styles of play. Stratton will look to run the ball and control the clock. Defensively Stratton will look to play physical defense and limit the high-flying offense of Granada. Granada will also look to run the ball effectively but also lean on their passing attack to generate offense. I am going with Granada over Stratton. I think Granada will have some success stopping the run, but I think offensively is where this game will be won. Granada last week proved they can run the ball and will make Stratton respect the run and could open the passing attack. I think this game can go in any direction and I believe will be a great game.
