Boys Basketball Tuesday District Tournament Predictions
Most District Tournaments move into the Quarterfinal Round Tonight. I have decided to give my predictions of the games and a quick break down of the games that will happen tonight. I will do my normal District Predictions Wednesday and Thursday. If you would like to see the complete brackets go check out Coloradopreps.com. Kevin Shaffer has all District Brackets posted with Place, Times, and Future games. Remember this is all in fun and I am not cheering against any teams. Good Luck to all teams competing tonight.

#2 Wiley over #7 Eads
#3 McClave over #6 Kit Carson
These are Quarterfinal games. It’s win or go home in Class 1A for the Quarterfinal Round, you must finish in the top 3 in your District to reach regionals (Besides District 1 & 8). Cheyenne Wells defeated Cheraw earlier today 49-37.
District 3
Springfield over Walsh
This is a Quarterfinal Game and the final one left to determine the Semifinal matchups. I am picking Springfield over Walsh. Walsh is still rebuilding their program but are a young team.
District 6
#1 Sierra Grande over Lake City
#2 Creede over #7 Antonito
#3 Cotopaxi over #6 Sangre De Cristo
#4 Moffat/Mountain Valley over Centennial
These are Quarterfinal games. It’s win or go home in Class 1A for the Quarterfinal Round. Reaching the Semifinal is key to reaching regionals as you must finish in the top 3 of this District. I think the best game will be Moffat vs Centennial and possibly Cotopaxi vs Sangre De Cristo if Cotopaxi is not at full strength.
District 7
#1 Evangelical Christian over #8 Cripple Creek
#2 Simla over #7 Kiowa
#3 Pikes Peak Christian over #6 Miami-Yoder
#4 Hanover over #5 Elbert
These are Quarterfinal games. It’s win or go home in Class 1A for the Quarterfinal Round, you must finish in the top 3 in your District to reach regionals (Besides District 1 & 8). I think the best game of this quarterfinal will be between Hanover and Elbert. Hanover did beat Elbert easily the first time, but they have not seen each other since January.
Class 2A
Remember for Class 2A the top 3 finishers get into Regional and then they give out 8 At-large berths via RPI. When I do my full District Prediction tomorrow or Thursday I will go thru RPI one more time for all Districts.
District 1
#1 Sanford over #9 Trinidad
#2 Crested Butte over #7 Center
#3 Monte Vista over #6 Lake County
#4 Del Norte over #5 Custer County
These are Quarterfinal games and unless you have a strong RPI these must win games to keep your shot at the automatic berth alive. District 1 has seen some great games all season and I expect it to continue in the District Tournament. I think besides the Sanford vs Trinidad game all games should be close. If Center can figure out their offense, I think they could push Crested Butte but must have a complete game from their top players. Monte Vista gets the win by playing tough defense and limiting Lake County offensively. Del Norte vs Center is size vs speed. Del Norte beat them the first time shooting 4 of 24 from 3-point range so if they shoot any better and play a full game, I think they get by Custer County. I easily could see an upset in a game tonight.
District 2
#2 Wray over #7 Burlington
#3 Wiggins over #6 Sedgwick County
#4 Holyoke over #5 Akron
These are Quarterfinal games. I really feel as if the top 4 seeds have been dominate all season in this District and don’t expect that to change tonight. I feel Holyoke vs Akron could be a tough game and same with Wiggins vs Sedgwick County. I don’t really see any upsets tonight in District 2 but I could easily be wrong.
District 3
#2 Ignacio over #7 Ridgway (Moved to Thursday)
#3 Cedaredge over #6 Olathe
#4 Dolores over #5 Telluride
These are Quarterfinal games. For many teams besides the top 3 seeds, it’s win over go home. Cedaredge vs Olathe I think is a underrated matchup and should be a tough game. I also feel like Dolores may have found their stride after their upset, but they cannot overlook Telluride tonight. Ignacio vs Ridgway was moved to Thursday due to weather.
District 4
#1 Denver Christian over #8 Clear Creek
#2 Limon over #7 Platte Canyon
#3 Lotus School over #6 Front Range Christian
#4 Byers over #5 Golden View Classical
These are Quarterfinal games. I think 3 of the 4 games could be very interesting games. Platte Canyon I think is tough than people expect and could give Limon a game. Front Range Christian to start the season was on fire if they can re-spark that they could push Lotus School. I do think the best game is Byers vs Golden View Classical. This is almost a must win for both teams. I like Byers with their multiple scorers to get the win.
District 5
#2 Vail Mountain over #7 Hayden
#3 Plateau Valley over #6 Soroco
#4 Vail Christian over #5 Rangely
These are Quarterfinal games. I don’t see the #2 or #3 seeds losing in this round as both seem to have found their groove. I think the game to watch is Vail Christian vs Rangely. These two have not played each other since January and Vail Christian appears to be without one of their top 2 scorers. I do think Vail Christian is the favorite and I think are figuring things out especially with their big win over Olathe last week.
District 7
#1 Heritage Christian over #8 Twin Peaks Charter
#2 Lyons over #7 Loveland Classical
#3 Union Colony Prep over #6 Gilpin County
#5 Dayspring Christian over #4 Dawson School
These are Quarterfinal games. I don’t see the top 2 seeds struggling tonight. I think UCP could be pushed by Gilpin County, but I still expect them to win. I am picking Dayspring Christian to upset Dawson School. The last meeting was close and I feel that Dayspring Christian has found their groove again after a long losing streak.
District 8
#2 Thomas MacLaren over #7 Atlas Prep
#3 Calhan over #6 Colorado Springs School
#5 Dolores Huerta over #4 Fountain Valley
These are Quarterfinal games and for all but the #1 and #2 seeds it’s win over go home. The RPI of the remaining teams are low so finishing in the top 3 is probably the only way to get to regionals. Calhan vs Colorado Springs School will be a good game. If Calhan plays their game, I think they get the win. I am picking the upset of Dolores Huerta over Fountain Valley. I like how athletic Dolores Huerta is and I think helps them get the win.
Class 3A
Remember in Class 3A only the League Champions and runner up get automatic berths. The rest of the field is selected via RPI. I will dive into more depth on the RPI numbers Thursday.
Confluence/Colorado League
#1 Englewood over #8 DSST-Byers
#2 DSST-Green Valley Ranch over #7 Aurora West Prep
#3 Eagle Ridge Academy over #6 Arvada
#4 Fort Lupton over #5 DSST-Conservatory Green
These are Quarterfinal games. I believe Englewood, DSST-Green Valley, and Eagle Ridge all get wins and should advance. The game to watch is Fort Lupton vs DSST-Conservatory Green. I think Fort Lupton gets the win they have proven to be tough this year and this will be a great game.
Frontier League
#1 Middle Park over #8 Bennett
#2 The Academy over #7 Jefferson
#3 DSST-Montview over #6 Denver West
#4 Pinnacle over #5 Arrupe Jesuit
These are Quarterfinal games. Out of the 4 games I think only The Academy has the easy road. I think Middle Park vs Bennett could be a close match. I also feel that Denver West is better than teams think and could upset DSST-Montview. Pinnacle I also feel will be challenged by Arrupe Jesuit, but I think they have a easier opponent than DSST-Montview. I know Denver West is sitting around 30 in the RPI so they know what they are playing for.
Intermountain League
#4 Bayfield over #5 Montezuma-Cortez
This is a pigtail game. Both teams are sitting way back in the RPI so a win is a must in this game. Bayfield beat them last time and I am going with them to get the win again.
Metro League
#1 Colorado Academy over #9 Machebeuf
#2 Faith Christian over #7 Stargate School
#3 Lutheran over #6 Kent Denver
#5 Manual over #4 Prospect Ridge
These are Quarterfinal games, and some great matchups will take place. I do feel as if the #1 and #2 seeds will advance. Machebeuf could put up a fight against Colorado Academy, but I think Colorado Academy has to many weapons. The big game to talk about are #3 Lutheran vs #6 Kent Denver and #4 Prospect Ridge vs #5 Manual. I could easily see two upsets here. Kent Denver has shown they can pull the upset and I think have the size. I do think Manual upsets Prospect Ridge in this game. They put a full game together last week and knocked off Kent Denver. Some great games happening tonight.
Western Slope League
#1 Aspen over #8 Grand Valley
#2 Delta over #7 Roaring Fork
#3 Moffat County over #6 Basalt
#5 Coal Ridge over #4 Gunnison
These are Quarterfinal games. I do feel the only game I feel confident in is Aspen over Grand Valley. The rest I think will be great games. I do think Moffat County gets the win over Basalt easily because of their size and defense. Delta has turned it on as of late but are playing a young Roaring Fork team. I am picking Coal Ridge to upset Gunnison if Coal Ridge is full strength. If they are not Gunnison size will get them the win.
