Class 3A Girls Basketball State Tournament Predictions
We have reached the end of the road and for 8 teams it’s time to compete for the State Championship. Some great matchups in the first round and looking forward. I am going to give my prediction for the Great 8 and then I will move forward from there. I will try and give an update after each day during the State Tournament.
Great 8
#1 Platte Valley over #8 Lamar
A phenomenal run for Lamar to end the season. Lamar is red-hot right now and come into the state tournament as a team not expected to be here. Lamar will look to pull another upset to advance deeper. Platte Valley is your defending state champion and come in with a ton of experience. Platte Valley will be tested in this game, and I don’t expect a blowout. I think the experience for Platte Valley proves to be the difference.
#4 Grand Valley over #12 St. Mary’s
Two very good shooting teams collide in this Elite 8 matchup. St. Mary’s has been powered by Ellie Hartman who has broke the 30-point mark in both regional games. Grand Valley looks to be peaking at the right time and could be playing their best basketball of the season. This will be a great matchup and I think comes down to the final few possessions of the game.
#2 University over #10 Delta
My pick for best game in the Elite 8 in Class 3A. Throw the seeds out the window because both teams have been ranked inside the top 6 at some point this season. Delta has the size to matchup with University but will the guard play matchup. Both teams are led by good scorers, and this will be a fun matchup to watch. I think this game comes down to the smallest details and could easily see Delta pull the upset.
#3 Vanguard over #11 C.S Christian
A Tri-Peaks League rematch in the Elite 8. These two teams meet in the League Tournament, and it was Vanguard snagging a 50-48 win in the 3rd place game. Don’t expect much of a different game this time around. Should be another great matchup and League rivalries area always fun come playoff time.
