Class 1A Volleyball State Tournament Predictions
We have reached the end of the Volleyball season and the final 12 teams will compete for the State Title. I will post predictions today for the first round and second round of the winner bracket. I will try and post my predictions for Friday’s games on Friday. I will also post my entire bracket predicted all the way to the State Championship.
Thursday Game Predictions
First Round-Winners Bracket
#8 Dove Creek over #9 La Veta
Dove Creek won their regional by defeating La Veta 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18). Dove Creek has been dominating this year besides their only close game against 3A State Qualifier Alamosa. La Veta got One of the Four wildcard spots after falling in the Regional Final to Dove Creek. La Veta will look to adjust and get revenge for the regional final. I still like Dove Creek in the matchup setting up a very interesting match in Round 2.
#5 Idalia over #12 Stratton
Idalia won their regional by defeating Stratton 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 25-14). Idalia will be tested yet again by Stratton and look for another close matchup. Idalia will look to fix the mistakes of set two. Stratton was One of the Four wildcard spots after falling in the regional final to Idalia. Stratton will look capitalize on set two which they defeated Idalia. Look for another close match in this round.
#11 Briggsdale over #6 Wiley
Briggsdale won their regional by defeating Wiley 3-2 (25-20, 19-25, 21-25, 25-16, 15-8). This was a very exciting matchup with both teams being evenly matched. Both Briggsdale and Wiley will look to make adjustments, but I expect another very close matchup. Who makes the best adjustments wins this match.
#7 Simla over #10 Otis
Simla won their regional by defeating Otis 3-2 (25-22, 25-16, 14-25, 17-25, 15-10). Simla will look to fix mistakes in sets 3 and 4. Simla will be tested yet again by Otis. Otis will also look to fix the mistakes of the Regional Final. Adjustments will be key in this matchup.
Second Round-Winners Bracket
#1 Merino over #8 Dove Creek
Merino won their regional by defeating Eads 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-16). Merino has been dominating all year and have yet to lose a match to a 1A opponent. If Merino faces Dove Creek, I think you are in for a amazing match. This game I feel should happen much deeper in the bracket. I think Dove Creek can matchup with Merino and both have defeated Alamosa this season. I think we could see 5 sets if Merino faces Dove Creek.
#4 Fleming over #5 Idalia
Fleming won their regional by defeating Cheraw 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-16). Fleming once again reaches the state championship and played well during regionals. Fleming will be awaiting either Idalia or Stratton both they have faced and both they have defeated this year. I think Fleming will be tested by the winner but expect a good matchup in the second round.
#3 McClave over #11 Briggsdale
McClave won their regional by defeating Weldon Valley 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-21). McClave played well at regionals and built off their regular season win over Wiley. McClave could have a rematch against Wiley in this round or face Briggsdale for the first time this season. I think either way McClave will be tested in the second round.
#7 Simla over #2 Kit Carson
Kit Carson won their regional by defeating Haxtun 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-23). All three sets were close but Kit Carson was able to play composed and get the wins against a good Haxtun team. Kit Carson in the second round will not be done any favors as they face either Simla or Otis. Kit Carson lost to Simla 3-2 and beat Otis 3-2. I think regardless you are looking at a very close matchup in this round and probably a 5 set match.
