Class 2A Volleyball State Tournament Predictions
We have reached the end of the Volleyball season and the final 12 teams will compete for the State Title. I will post predictions today for the first round and second round of the winner bracket. I will try and post my predictions for Friday’s games on Friday. I will also post my entire bracket predicted all the way to the State Championship.
Thursday Game Predictions
First Round-Winners Bracket
#8 St. Mary’s over #9 Dayspring Christian
St. Mary’s won their regional by defeating Burlington 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-20). St. Mary’s did a great job of bouncing back after their opening set loss. St. Mary’s will look for Hannah Studer to lead them past Dayspring Christian. Dayspring Christian won their regional by defeating Limon 3-2 (19-25, 26-24, 26-24, 15-25, 15-8). Dayspring Christian was able to advance to regionals holding Limon off. Dayspring Christian has been one of the bigger surprises this post season. I think this could be a close match, but I think the tougher schedule St. Mary’s played helps them advance.
#5 Strasburg over #12 Hoehne
Strasburg won their regional by defeating Gilpin County 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-23). Strasburg looked dominate at regionals and hit the ball extremely well as a team. Strasburg will look to avoid the upset by Hoehne who will be coming off an upset at regionals. Hoehne won their regional by upsetting Holyoke 3-2. Hoehne will once again be looking for the upset in this round. Strasburg must continue to hit well to advance past a tough Hoehne team.
#11 North Fork over #6 Vail Christian
North Fork won their regional by defeating Yuma 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-23). North Fork played very well this past weekend dropping just 1 set. North Fork will be upset minded this week as they look for revenge after losing to Vail Christian during the regular season 3-2. Vail Christian won their regional by defeating Ignacio 3-1 (25-18, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23). Vail Christian continues to prove why they are a top team in Class 2A. Vail Christian will have a tough rematch against North Fork. I expect another 5-set match.
#10 Sanford over #7 Denver Christian
Sanford won their regional by defeating Front Range Christian 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-22). Sanford came out dominate in both regional matches winning both 3-0. Sanford will now look to transition to the State Tournament and will have to be upset minded in round 1. Denver Christian won their regional by defeating Del Norte 3-1 (26-24, 25-15, 25-14, 25-23). Denver Christian did a great job of bouncing back after dropping set 1. Denver Christian will look to prove they are a top 8 seed. I think this could go 5 sets and should be a great match.
Second Round-Winners Bracket
#1 Wiggins over #8 St. Mary’s
Wiggins won their regional by defeating Olathe 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-20). Wiggins has yet to drop a set to a 2A team this season with all 3 losses coming to State Tournament 3A teams. Wiggins vs St. Mary’s could be an interesting matchup, but I expect Wiggins to come out firing in match #1.
#4 Fowler over #5 Strasburg
Fowler won their regional by defeating Cedaredge 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-6). Fowler was dominate in both matches at regionals and cruised to the regional title. Fowler won’t have that luxury in round 1. I think regardless Fowler will be tested by Strasburg or Hoehne. Strasburg vs Fowler does have a 5-set match written all over it if it happens.
#3 Meeker over #11 North Fork
Meeker won their regional by defeating Mancos 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-17). Meeker was dominate in both regional matchups. Meeker will face a familiar foe regardless of the winner. Meeker defeated both North Fork and Vail Christian during the regular season 3-0. It’s never easy to beat a team twice so look for both matchups to be closer the second time around.
#2 Sedgwick County over #10 Sanford
Sedgwick County won their regional by defeating Crowley County 3-0 (25-12, 25-3, 25-4). Sedgwick County was dominate in both regional matchups sweeping both matches. Sedgwick County has been on a roll winning 8 straight matches. Sedgwick County I think could be tested by Sanford but I expect Sedgwick County to come out hot in match #1.
