Class 2A Football State Championship Preview
How quickly has this season gone. We have reached the state championship and feels like we just started a few weeks ago. This should be a great matchup on Saturday and looking forward to watching. Good Luck to both teams!
#1 Delta vs #2 Eaton, Saturday 6 pm
Delta moved into the Class 2A State Championship with a 24-17 win over Classical Academy. The win keeps Delta undefeated on the season and now they hit the road to pueblo to play a neutral site State Championship at CSU-Pueblo. Delta offensively had a solid day racking up 395 yards of total offense. QB Ty Reed had a solid day going 9 of 16 for 158 yards and 3 TDs. WR Gavin Brewer was the main target with 4 catches for 88 yards and 2 TDs. The rushing attack also had a solid day racking up 215 yards rushing. RB Esai Carrillo led all rushers with 169 yards on 25 carries. Defensively Delta was able to slow down the rushing attack of TCA. Four Delta Panthers had double digit tackles. Konner Workman led the group with 20 Tackles and 3 TFL. Alex Ward (12 tackles), Esai Carrillo (10 tackles) and Clay Sandridge (10 tackles) all broke into double digit tackle territory. Delta will now shift their focus to a more balanced offensive attack and look for their defense to try and shine in the state championship.
Eaton moved into the Class 2A State Championship with a dominating 47-8 win over Montezuma-Cortez. Eaton dominated the first half scoring 41 points to get the running clock going. Eaton offensively racked up 383 yards of total offense with most coming in just the first half. QB Walker Martin continued his dominate play going 13 of 18 for 236 yards and 3 passing TDs. WR Zac Grable nearly broke the century mark with 2 catches for 94 yards and 1 TD. The rushing attack did no have to do a ton with just 129 yards and the main RB in Morgan Tribbett racking up just 27 yards and 1 rushing TD. Defensively Eaton was dominate in this game holding a red hot offense to 0 points in the first half and just 8 points in the game. Eaton forced 2 turnovers in the game a INT by Ryder True and a fumble recovery by Preston Smith. Morgan Tribbett led all tacklers with 7 tackles. Ryder True (4 tackles), Benson Hood, Trent Salberg, Zac Grable, and Dawson Fogg all with 3 tackles helped on the defensive effort. Eaton will face a much more physical team this week and I also expect their defense to rise up to the occasion this weekend.
Delta and Eaton have not meet in the playoffs in the past 10 years. Both teams have had plenty of playoff success in the past 10 years though. Delta last state championship came in 1960 and Eaton last state championship came last year. Both teams do have 5 common opponents this season. Delta went 5-0 defeating TCA, University, Berthoud, The Academy, and Montezuma-Cortez. Eaton went 4-1 losing to TCA but defeating University, Berthoud, The Academy, and Montezuma-Cortez.

#1 Delta over #2 Eaton
This will be a great game! Two very physical teams clash and both teams have had dominate defensive performances this postseason. Eaton has had to more explosive offense with their passing attack coming alive during the post season. Delta has show glimpses with their offense breaking out but their calling card has been defense. I do not expect a high scoring game and look for each defense to shine in this game. I do believe either team can win this game and should make for a fun night at CSU-Pueblo.
