Girls Basketball Class 1A Regional Projections and State Predictions
For my projections I am using the CHSAA Seeding and Selection Index. I am going to be predicting the District Champions and may just give a quick reason as to why I picked each District Champion. If you are a District Champion ranked in the top 16 of the Seeding Index you will automatically host a regional. Remember to qualify for Regionals you must be ranked inside the top 32 or win your District.
Class 1A
- District Seeding will be done by the CHSAA Seeding & Selection Index (50% Maxpreps & 50% RPI). Maxpreps and RPI will run through Districts.
- District Winners (8) advancing to the 32-team state bracket. District Champions are guaranteed a top 8 (host slot) as long as they are in the top 16 of the CHSAA Seeding & Selection Index after Districts.
- Remaining 24 teams are filled in by the CHSAA Seeding & Selection Index published after Districts.
- Seeding criteria for the 32-team state bracket-CHSAA Seeding & Selection Index published after Districts. Seed 9-24 are true seeded except to try and avoid league matchups in the FIRST ROUND ONLY. Teams may be moved one spot up or down. Teams 25-32 may be moved based upon geography and league matchups.
- First two rounds of the state tournament (Regionals) will be hosted by the top seed in the quadrant of the bracket, over two days. (4-teams total)
- Teams will not be reseeded prior to the final week-state championship (Final 8)
- Top 8 teams will advance. Class 2A Great 8 will play a Consolation Bracket.
District Tournament Winners
District 1: Dove Creek
Dove Creek continues to dominate this District. My only concern for Dove Creek is their weak schedule to end the year. Nucla and De Beque are in a good position to reach regionals just get the wins you are expected. North Park sits on the bubble at #32. North Park needs a win in their final two games plus at least 1 win in the District Tournament. I would say North Park game against Soroco will be key for them. Caprock Academy sits at #35 and their game in the first round of Districts will be an elimination game.
District 2: McClave
District 2 is going to be a slugfest. 3 teams still remain inside the top 5 and all 7 teams are sitting inside the top 32. McClave is my pick to win this District but Granada and Kit Carson will challenge them. McClave, Granada, Kit Carson, and Cheraw are all locks for regionals. Eads is also a near lock at #15 and same goes for Cheyenne Wells at #17. Wiley is the only team on the bubble at #27. Their loss on Tuesday to South Baca hurts and they could end the season losing their final two games. They will be sweating things out unless they can snag a win in their final game or 1st game at Districts.
District 3: Springfield
Springfield remains my pick to win the District. They have the head to head win over Kim/Branson but this District has thrown some surprises as of late. Kim/Branson is a lock for regionals they play Springfield in their final game. La Veta and South Baca both sit inside the top 32 but are on the bubble. La Veta is #28 and South Baca #29. Both probably need at least 1 win in the District tournament. They also play each other in the final game and winner will get a big leg up.
District 4: Briggsdale
Briggsdale remains my pick to win the District they have played a tough schedule along with Fleming. Both teams are locks for regionals and will be forces to reckon with. Prairie has moved into the top 32 and sit at #30. They are on the bubble and face Briggsdale and Weldon Valley in their final games. They must beat Weldon Valley and probably get a win in the District Tournament to get to regionals.
District 5: Stratton
Stratton has hit a tough part of their schedule but still remain my pick to win this District. Stratton, Idalia, and Hi-Plains are locks for regionals. Flagler is a near lock at #19 and unless they have a bad ending to the season should get in. Arickaree and Otis sit inside the top 32 but are on the bubble. Arickaree is a bit more safe at #23. Otis is closer to the bubble at #26. Lone Star sits at #33 and would be the first team out. They need a good ending to the season to try and push back into the top 32.
District 6: Sangre De Cristo
Sangre De Cristo is my team to beat, and I think the only true challenger is Sierra Grande. Sierra Grande is a near lock at #22 but need to make sure they reach the District Championship to avoid slipping further. Centennial and Creede both sit outside the top 32. Both would need to make a great run in the District Tournament to have a shot at regionals.
District 7: Kiowa
Kiowa is the team to beat in District 7. I have not seen anyone really rise to challenge them in this district. Genoa-Hugo would be the main challenger and they sit at #24. If they do finish second they will make it to regionals. Deer Trail, Hanover, and Pikes Peak Christian all sit outside the top 32. Making a run in the District Tournament may be the only way they make it to regionals.
District 8: Flatirons Academy
The #1 team in 1A and their only loss to a 4A team. I don’t see anyone else in this district pulling the upset. Flatirons Academy is the heavy favorite to win the 1A title. Belleview Christian is a near lock for regionals at #18. A solid showing gets them to regionals. Rocky Mountain Lutheran sits at #25 and are on the bubble same goes with Front Range Baptist at #31. Winning at least 1 game will be crucial for both teams.
