We continue to use the CHSAA Seeding Index to pick the teams we Preview for the week. We also look at the teams 28 thru 33 who are on the bubble for making regionals.

#1 Wiggins

Wiggins beat Sedwick County this last week in a close match of 3-2 to get them to a 3-0 league record and 11-1 overall. They are currently in 2nd place in the Lower Platte Legue. The tigers will be facing Merino on 9/28 on the road and Yuma on 9/29 to keep their ranking. Top players for the Tigers are Taelynn Epple with 27 total blocks, Tyleigh Fehseke with 27 serving aces and 206 kills, and Kennedy Kerr with 426 assists and 126 digs.

#2 Rye

Rye is continuing their 12 game win streak after beating Fowler and Rocky Ford last week 3-0. This gives them an 8-0 league record and 12-1 overall, placing them 1st in the Santa Fe League. This week the Thunderbolts will try to push their win streak to 14 when they plat Swink on 9/28 and Hoehne on 10/3. Leaders from Rye are Isabella Bond with 39 total blocks, Jaklyn Newitt with 57 serving aces and 185 assists, Desiree Ruiz with 204 digs, and Jordan Holgerson with 95 kills.

#3 Mancos

Mancos suffered their first loss of the season this week against Dove Creek 2-3 which gives them a 10-1 overall record. Despite their loss, the Bluejays are still perfect on league play, 4-0, and are currently in 1st in the San Luan Basin league. They will be playing to keep their rank this week against Dolores on 9/28 and Telluride on 9/30. Top performers for Mancos are Haylie Higgins with 39 total blocks, Aysia Mathews with 32 serving aces and 283 assists, and Teya Yeomans with 135 digs and 179 kills.

#4 Sedgewick County

Sedgwick County lost their first league game this last week to Wiggins 2-3, and was also beat by Liberty Common 1-3, which leaves them 0-1 in league play, 6th in Lower Platte league, and 9-3 overall. They will be looking to bounce back from a tough week when they play Perkins County on 9/28. Stat leaders for the Cougars are Abigail Dillie with 38 total blocks, Keyana Ehnes with 27 serving aces, Lainee Nein with 195 digs and 163 kills, and Ryen Carlson with 245 assists.

#5 Front Range Christian

The Falcons are 5-0 in league play, leaving them 1st in the Mile High League, and are 15-2 overall. They defeated Dawson School and Denver Christian this last week, both 3-1, and will be looking to continue their 7-game win streak with week against Highland on 9/28, and Heritage Christian on 10/4. Stat leaders for the Falcons are Skyla Anglada with 36 total blocks, Allie Howard with 38 serving aces, Hannah Keyfauver with 330 digs, Emma Bolz with 459 assists, and Eadlin Hoff with 159 kills.

#6 Lake County

Lake County is currently in first in the Frontier league with a 7-0 league record and 14-0 overall. The Panthers recently defeated The Pinnacle, Platte Canyon and Soroco 3-0 to continue their winning streak. Top performers for Lake County are Jaycee Windorski with 24 total blocks, and 257 kills, Kelsea Roeder with 49 serving aces and 90 digs, and Maggie Roeder with 361 assists. This week, the team will be looking to keep their undefeated record alive when they play Sheridan on 9/30 at home and Arvada on 10/3 on the road.

#7 Vail Christian

Sitting 1st in the Western Slope League, Vail Christian is 6-0 in league play and 8-2 overall, They were able to get the win overall Meeker this last week 3-2 to bring their win streak out to 7 games. The Saints will be looking to continue their win streak this week when they play Plateau Valley on 9/29. Leading the Saints are Hannah Leonard with 13 total blocks, Logan Nobrega with 23 serving aces and 177 assists, Jessie Allen with 165 digs, and Mary McClarrinon with 85 kills.

#8 Plateau Valley

Plateau Valley is currently 3rd in the Western Slope league with a 6-1 record in league play and 11-1 overall. The cowboys are on an 11-game win streak after defeating Nucla and Olathe 3-0 this last week. They will be looking to keep pushing their streak out this week as they play Vail Christian on 9/29. Top performers for the Cowboys are Meloni Miller with 14 total blocks, 57 serving aces, and 258 assists, Sierra Piland with 98 digs, and Emaline Ealey with 128 kills.

#9 Strasburg

Strasburg went on a 3-game win streak last week and defeated Burlington 3-2, Elbert 3-0 and Flagler 3-0 after losing to Valley 1-3. This leaves them with a 9-5 overall record, 3-0 in league and are 2nd in the Union Pacific league. Strasburg will be looking to increase their win streak this week against their opponents Frontier Academy on 10/3 and Deer Trail on 10/12. Leaders for the team are Natalie Damron with 32 total blocks, 135 digs and 150 kills, and Peighton Marrero with 27 serving aces and 295 assists.

#10 Trinidad

The Miners are currently sitting in 3rd in the Southern Peaks League with a 3-1 league record and an 11-1 overall record. Trinidad suffered their first loss of the season this last week against Del Norte 2-3, but defeated Sierra Grande 3-0. They will be looking to bounce back from their loss this week against Buena Vista on 9/30, and Dolores Huerta Prep on 10/3. Stat leaders for the Miners are Hannah Chavez with 23 total blocks, Monse Viera-Flores with 73 serving aces and 63 kills, Jesse Gegelman with 86 digs, and Layla Maes with 77 assists.

Hoehne

Hoehne currently sites 2nd in the Santa Fe League with a 6-1 league record and 10-5 overall. The farmers had mixed success this last week with losses to Simla 0-3 and La Veta 2-3, but beat Soroco 3-0 and Swink 3-2. Hoehne will be looking to win against Rye on 10/3 to help boost their league ranking.  Stat leaders from the team are Kaylah Crosson with 31 total blocks, Ellegra Gutierrez with 43 serving aces and 139 digs, Phoenix SanRoman with 234 assists and Janae Ramos with 166 kills.

Swink

Sitting 4th in the Santa Fe League, Swink has a 6-2 league record and are 9-3 overall. The Lions were able to beat Walsenburg 3-0 and Sangre de Cr/isto 3-1 last week, but fell to Hoehne 2-3. Swink will face Rye on 9/28, and McClave on 9/30 to try to bounce back from their loss and look to increase their rankings. Leading the team are Taylor Mendenhall with 30 total blocks and 104 kills, Kylee Romero with 21 serving aces, Larriana Taggart with 163 digs, and Briana McElroy with 123 assists.

These are teams that are on the cusp of making the playoffs

Denver Christian

The Thunder is currently sitting 7th in the Mile High League, with a 2-3 league record and are 6-7 overall, They lost their previous two games last week to Dayspring Christian and Front Range Christian both 1-3. They will be looking to bounce back this week and get some wins when they face Lamar, Fowler and Limon on 9/30, and Highland on 10/2. If there were no more games being played this week, Denver Christian would make the play-offs in the 28th spot according to the CHSSA Seeding Index. They will need to keep losses to a minimal to maintain this ranking.

Olathe

Olathe has a 7-5 overall record, with 5-3 in league and are currently 5th in the Western Slope League. The Pirates were able to defeat North Park 3-0, but lost to Vail Mountain 2-3 and Meeker 0-3. If games were to end this week, Olathe would likely get into the playoffs in the 29th spot according to the CHSSA Seeding Index. However, this week they will play Gunnison on 10/3 in a non-league game. Stat leaders for Olathe are Sieanna McCall with 24 total blocks, Kiandra Liles with 32 serving aces, and 124 assists, Sadie Shea with 204 digs and 72 kills.

Burlington

Currently in 6th in the Union Pacific League, Burlington has a 1-2 league record, and are 5-6 overall. The Cougars were defeated by Strasburg 2-3 this week, but were able to come back and beat Bethune 3-0. If games ended this week, Burlington would make the playoffs in the 30th spot according to CHSSA Seeding Index. This week, they will play Akron on 9/30, and will be looking to keep their success alive. Top performers for Burlington are Trinitee Holmes with 29 total blocks and 125 kills, Kiyarra Williams with 24 serving aces, Azalia Fuentes with 153 digs, and Regan Simpson with 271 assists.

Peyton

With a 1-0 league record and 6-7 overall, Peyton is currently 1st in the Black Forest league. They had mixed success this last week, beating Colorado Springs School 3-0 but losing to Limon 1-3. If games ended this week, Peyton would make the playoffs in the 31st spot according to CHSSA Seeding Index. This week, Peyton will play a league match-up against Calhan on 10/2 and will need to win to keep ensuring they get to the play-offs. Stat leaders for the Panthers are Sammie Nickle with 10 total blocks, Savannah Kelley with 14 serving aces and 103 kills, Tahjyanna McFall with 204 digs, and Abbie Nickell with 269 assists.

Dayspring Christian

The Eagles are currently in 4th in the Mile High League with a 3-1 league record and are 5-10 overall. They lost to Simla last week 0-3, but were able to win against Denver Chrisitan 3-1, La Veta 3-2, Kit Carson 3-2, and Union Coloney Prep 3-0. If the games were to end this week, Dayspring would be one of the last teams to make it to the playoffs according to the CHSSA Seeding Index. They have an important league game on 10/3 against Lyons were a loss could keep them out of the playoffs. Leading the Eagles are Nika Gomez with 34 total blocks and 84 kill, Emmery Bonnell with 22 serving aces, 198 digs, and 221 assists.

Bishop Machebeuf

The Buffalos are currently sitting 6th in the Mile High League, are have 2-2 league record and are 5-7 overall. They lost this last week to Lyons and Front Range Christian this week 0-3 but where able to come back and beat Dawson School 3-2. If games ended this week with current standings, Bishop Machebeuf would make the playoffs and be team number 33 in the CHSSA Seeding Index. Winning will be important for the Buffalos to keep their playoff hopes alive. They will face Skyview Academy this week in league play on the road on 10/3. Stat leaders for the team are Katie Nichols with 22 total blocks and 47 kills, Hope Chavez with 20 serving aces, Leslie Villegas with 88 digs, and Pilar Chavez with 54 assists.

Grand Valley

The Cardinals are currently 7th in the Western Slopes league and are 4-3 in league play and 5-7 overall. They were able to beat Hayden 3-0 this last week but fell to Meeker 0-3. With current standings, Grand Valley would make regionals this year according to the CHSSA Seeding Index and would be the 34th team. This week, they will face Rangely on 9/30 and Plateau Valley on 10/3 in league play, where winning will be important for them to make a playoff push. Leaders from the Cardinals are Chloe Gronewoller with 43 total blocks, Tallin Mccormick with 27 serving aces, Jocelyn Barragan with 204 digs, Kaylee Medina with 103 assists, and Jaycee Pittman with 77 kills.
