We have decided for the month of December to look at the top 10 teams and look at their past results and also look at the teams who are off to great starts but not ranked.  This week we will look at the past two weeks and next week we will look back at the previous week and any remaining games until the Winter Break. (Rankings used are from MileHigh Prep Report.)

#1 Briggsdale (3-0)

Briggsdale starts their season with a 3-0 start so far. They started their season off with a win against Front Range Baptist 69-27 and have continued their momentum with wins against Arickaree 37-24, and Hi-Plains 55-37. Their last game before the new year will be against Cheylin on 12/15. Leading the team so far this early season is Jenna Krise with 71 points and Kayl Klem with 11 assists, and 18 rebounds.

#2 McClave (3-0)

McClave currently has a 3-0 record to start their season. Their wins come over Greely County 48-30, Stanton County 53-36, and Syracuse 42-37. The Cardinals will be playing in the Lamar Holiday Shootout on 12/14 where they will face Wiley to kick it off. Leading the team so far this season is Abrielle Gomez with 47 points and 21 rebounds and Addison Vallejos with 10 assists.

#3 Stratton (2-0)

The Eagles kick off their season with a 2-0 start. Stratton has some quality wins against Otis 61-24 and Idalia 47-21. Stratton will end their year with games against Otis on 12/15 and Colby on 12/16. Stratton is currently being led my Sedonia Isenbart with 42 points and 13 rebounds, and Clare Miltenberger with 12 assists.

#4 Flatirons Academy (3-1)

The Flatiron Academy Bison begin their season 3-1with their wins being against Byers (58-24), Strasburg (50-40), and Gilpin County (50-18). Their lone loss so far comes from Merino 24-42. The Bison will be playing in a tournament that begins on 12/21 and they will start it against GVCA. Stat leaders for Flatirons this early season is Emma Cox with 73 points and 28 rebounds and Annabelle Rakers with 12 assists.

#5 Fleming (1-1)

Fleming started their season off with a win over Haxtun 47-32 but lost to Caliche in a close game 39-43 to give them a starting record of 1-1.  To end the season for the year, Fleming will face Flagler on 12/15 for the tournament they are hosting.  They will end the year against Lone Star on 12/19.

#6 Idalia (2-1)

Idalia currently has a 2-1 record to start the season. Their wins so far are from Genoa-Hugo/Karval 41-31 and Akron 28-27. Their first loss of the season comes from Stratton 21-47. Idalia will be playing in the Idalia Invitational on 12/15 and will start against Cheyenne Wells. Stat leaders so far are Krista Wieser with 32 points and Jaylyn Kechter with 8 assists and 36 rebounds.

#7 De Beque (4-2)

De Beque started off their season with a loss to Mancos (26-53) but were able to follow up with a 4 game win streak against Hayden (50-19), Ridgway (54-31), Dolores (36-18), and Dove Creek (41-38). Most recently, the Dragons lost to Rangely 33-58. They will face Plateau Valley on 12/13 and Caprock Academy on 12/15 to wrap up the end of the year. Leading the De Beque Dragons so far this season is Avery Rigsby with 81 points, Allyson Sandidge with 18 assists, and Ava Vines with 53 rebounds.

#8 Kit Carson (1-0)

Kit Carson starts their season off with a very strong win against Calhan 68-14. To end the year, the Wildcats will playing in the Lamar Holiday Shootout.  Their first opponent will be Holly on 12/14.

#9 Dove Creek (4-2)

Dove Creek started their season with a loss to Centauri 30-40 but then were able to beat Ignacio 41-27, “Non Varsity Opponent” 44-31, Dolores 45-30, and Nucla 49-42, but have also fallen to De Beque 38-45. To wrap up the season, Dove Creek will be playing in a tournament where their first game will be against Dolores on 12/15. Stat leaders for the Bulldogs so far this season are Ralynn Hickman with 89 points and 56 rebounds and Kalie Gatlin with 30 assists.

#10 Cheyenne Wells (0-3)

Cheyenne Wells have found themselves on the wrong side of three close games this season. These games were against Syracuse (26-25), Elkhart (32-28) and Stranton County (48-37). The Tigers will be looking for their first wins of the season starting with Idalia on 12/15 before we head into the new year.

Hi-Plains (2-2)

Hi-plains started their season with a loss to Eads 57-41. They have since won two games against Wiley 46-21 and Kiowa 44-37, but fell to Briggsdale 55-37. The Patriots will play two more games before the end of the year against Lone Star on 12/15 and Genoa-Hugo/Karval on 12/16. Stat leader for the Patriots so far this season are Caelan Chruch with 48 points, 11 assists and 29 rebounds.

Sangre de Cristo (4-0)

Sangre de Cristo begins their season with a 4-0 record with wins against Antonito (78-4), Dolores (56-26), and Sargent (43-28 and 55-39). They will play Soroco in a tournament beginning on 12/15 to wrap up the year. Top players for the Thunderbirds so far are Palma Enriquez with 54 points and 13 assists and Jaydra Cordova with 39 rebounds.

Springfield (3-0)

Springfield kicks off their season with a 3-0 record having beat Sierra Grande 61-12, SB (CO-OP) 48-34, and Wiley 45-17. They will face Walsh on 12/14 in tournament play to but a bow on the season until the new year.

Prairie (4-0)

Prairie starts their season with a perfect 4-0 record. These wins came from their games against Peetz (61-17), Caliche (42-36), Denver Waldorf (67-2) and Lone Star (62-34). Their first tournament game for the end of year wrap up will be against Merino on 12/14. Top performers so far for the Mustangs are Hannah Kugler with 53 points, Kendra Sutter with 3 assists, and Kayla Kugler with 16 rebounds.

Nucla (3-3)

The Mustangs kick off their season with an even 3-3 record. Their season opener was a barn burner against Altamont where they lost 41-42 in overtime. They were able to then beat Soroco 42-24 and Hayden 46-29, fell to Rangely 53-20, beat North Park 50-32, and lost to Dove Creek 49-42. Nucla will face Monticello in tournament play this weekend on 12/15 where they will want to win as many games as possible to go into the new year with a positive win record. Stat leaders for Nucla are Lantry Galley with 52 points, Keiran Bray with 14 assists, and Viviana Zunich with 25 rebounds.

Flagler (3-1)

Flager lost their first game against Kiowa 48-38 and have been winning their games since. These games include Weldon Valley (46-26), Miami-Yoder (52-25), and Genoa-Hugo/Karval (39-32) to give them a 3-1 record. To wrap up the season until the new year, the Panthers will face Fleming on 12/15 and Deer Trail on 12/18. Leading the team so far this season are Jaylie Stone with 70 points and 12 assist, and KaCee Jo Saffer with 35 rebounds.
