We have decided for the month of December to look at the top 10 teams and look at their past results and also look at the teams who are off to great starts but not ranked. This week we will look at the past two weeks and next week we will look back at the previous week and any remaining games until the Winter Break.

#1 Colorado Springs Christian (3-0)

The Lions start off their season with three strong wins against Bennett (76-16), Fowler (82-31), and Ellicott (89-22). They will be facing Lamar on 12/16 to wrap up the season until the new year where they will be looking to carry their perfect record with them. Leading the team so far this season are Grace Minihane with 64 points and 20 rebounds, and Kinley Asp with14 assists.

#2 St. Mary’s (4-1)

St. Mary’s is off to a strong start having won four of their five games. They opened up the season with a win to Lutheran (36-35), and from there they beat Banning Lewis Academy (75-29), Middle Park (85-30), and Manitou Springs (55-31). Their single loss comes from a close game with Alamosa where the Pirates lost 62-67. To end the year, St. Mary’s will face Swink on 12/19. Stat leaders so far for the team are Maeve Salveson with 51 points, Hope Chavez with 17 assists, and Jaela Pedro with 27 rebounds.

#3 Peyton (3-0)

Peyton starts their season with a 3-0 record so far. So far they have won against Manitou Springs 70-9, Simla 51-26, and Limon in a close 65-62 game. The Panthers will play three more games before the new year and will face SCA on 12/14  Highland on 12/16, and Simla on 12/19. Top performers so far for Peyton are AJ Mannering with 91 points, Abbie Nickell with 10 assists, and Sammie Nickell with 26 rebounds.

#4 Grand Valley (4-0)

Grand Valley starts their season off with wins against Rifle (57-18), Steamboat Springs (35-7), Palisade (52-32) and Gunnison (50-26). The Cardinals will not play anymore games this year and will kick off their season in the new year on 1/5 against Coal Ridge. Stat leaders for Grand Valley are Jaycee Pittman with 74 points and 32 rebounds, and Kaylae Medina with 16 assists.

#5 Centauri (3-1)

Centauri is off to a strong start for the season with a 3-1 record. Their wins come against Dove Creek (40-30), Durango (33-31), and Salida (45-27). Their lone loss comes from a very close game against Sanford where the final score was 42-39 in overtime. Leaders for Centauri are Braelyn Tucker with 26 points and 8 assists and Lacey Johnson with 23 rebounds.

#6 Yuma (3-0)

Yuma starts their season with 3 wins against Manual (50-18), Wray (52-51), and Brush (52-28). Yuma will play in a tournament beginning on 12/15 where they will start off against Rangely and will wrap up their year with a game against Eaglecrest on 12/19. Stat leaders for Yuma so far are Jade Lungwitz with 34 points, Emma Rayl with 8 assists, and Caddis Robinson with 21 rebounds.

#7 Platte Valley (1-6)

Platte Valley has had a rough start to the season with a 1-6 record. They lost to Holy Family 83-15, Roosevelt 86-19, Green Mountain 63-10, Legacy 56-34, Lutheran 57-26, and Berthoud 59-49. They were able to win against TVS in overtime 42-41. These losses will motivate the Broncos into the new year where they will be looking to start strong with a win against Eaton on 1/5. Stat leaders for Platte Valley are Lauryn Uyemura with 57 points and 6 assists, and Kamber Offinga with 16 rebounds.

#8 Gunnison (1-1)

Gunnison started off their season with a win against Buena Vista 38-31 and fell to Grand Valley 26-50. They will attempt to break their 50% win record on 12/16 in a tournament where their first game will be against SSHS. Top players for Gunnison are Kylee McDougal with 13 points, Sienna Gomez with 4 assists, and Yaslin Hernandez with 10 rebounds.

#9 Buena Vista (3-1)

Buena Vista starts their season with wins against Lake County 74-10 and Florence 68-18, fell to Gunnison 38-31, and then beat Del Norte 42-34. To Wrap up the year, Buena Vista will play against Pagosa Springs on 12/15.

#10 Strasburg (3-2)

Strasburg kicks off their season with a 3-2 record with wins against Weld Central 47-11, Cedaredge 31-20 and Sterling 64-13. Their losses are from Flatirons Academy 40-50, and University 34-46. They will end their season with a game against Eaton on 12/16. Top players so far for Strasburg are Gracey Graf with 52 points and 15 assists, and Natalie Damron with 40 rebounds. 

Roaring Fork (3-0)

The Rams start off their season with a three wins against PRA 63-13, SSHS 40-20 and Basalt 47-27. Roaring Fork will face Basalt 2 more times before the end of the year on 12/13 and 12/15 where they will be looking to carry their perfect record into the new year.

Bennett (4-1)

Bennett starts their season with a 4-1 record. They won their first four games against FA 71-22, DSSTCG 63-9, BMHS 50-28, and Byers 46-39. They lost their last game to CSCHS 16-79. The stat leader for Bennett is Lily Venneberg with 104 points, 18 assists, and 27 rebounds.

Windsor Charter (4-1)

Windsor Charter starts their season with a 4-1 record. They have wins against Dawson School 64-24, UCP 65-25, Liberty Common 59-57 in overtime, and Lyons 64-29. Their single loss came from Skyline 28-42. Windsor Charter will play GSHS on 12/14, PRA in 12/15, Pueblo East and HCHS on 12/16,  and Timnath on 12/19. Top players for the Firebirds are Morgan Kimmi with 67 points and 58 rebounds and Sadie Curry with 12 assists.

Rocky Ford (5-2)

Rocky Ford begins their season with five wins including against Swink 21-19, PCHS 39-26 and 37-32, and Rye 30-23. The Meloneers fell to Swink in overtime 33-39, and Crowley County 43-38. They will take the rest of the year and work towards their 2024 opener against Center on 1/4. Top players for Rocky Ford are Leticia Garcia with 60 points and 9 assists, and Faith Wirth with 59 rebounds.

Lyons (2-2)

Lyons kick off their season with a 50% win percentage. They won against BCHS 39-20 and Dawson School 30-23, and lost against Skyline 29-56, and WCA 29-64. They will be playing FA to end their year on 12/14. Stat leaders for Lyons are Gemma Powell with 26 points, Ava Vasquez with 4 assists and Gen Newell with 24 rebounds.

Skyview Academy (2-1)

Skyview Academy begins their season with a 2-1 record. The won their first two games against SS 32-20 and Arrupe Jesuit  42-37 but fell to Woodland Park 45-20. They will end their year with games against Bruce Randolph on 12/14 and Peak to Peak on 12/16. Stat leaders for the Hawks are Lydia Slocum with 33 points, Keira Hayat with 6 assists, and Avenly Lewis with 17 rebounds.
