Class 2A Boys Basketball Regional Predictions
Regionals is here and it’s win or go home time. Reaching Regionals is one of many steps for teams looking to reach the State Championship. To reach the state tournament is simple. Win your Region and you will go to the State Tournament. 8 regions and 8 teams advance to the State Tournament. They will reseed the State Tournament based off the final Seeding Index published after Districts. Remember this is just our opinion and we are not cheering against any team. We know all the hard work that each team has put in to reach this point. Good Luck to all 32 teams!
Region 1 at Simla
#1 Simla over #32 Cotopaxi
#17 Burlington over #16 Telluride
I think the #16 vs #17 game will be a good one. Two teams looking to take their shot at the #1 team in the state and both with different play styles. I don’t see Simla being upset in this game and expect them to get the win.
#1 Simla over #17 Burlington
Simla is my pick to advance to the state tournament. Simla has already faced Burlington during the year, and I have always said it’s tough to beat a team two or three times in a season. Simla will be tested in the regional finals by either Burlington or Telluride but should have them ready for the State Tournament.
Region 2 at Merino
#2 Merino over #31 Evangelical Christian
#18 Monte Vista over #15 Walsenburg
I think Merino will be tested by ECA early but I think Merino will wear down ECA and win by 15+ points. Monte Vista vs Walsenburg should be a great game. Both teams have been battle tested this year and will come down to the small things. I expect Monte vs Walsenburg to come down to the wire.
#2 Merino over #18 Monte Vista
These two teams meet a season ago in the opening round of regionals with Merino squeezing out a 3-point win. I expect a close matchup but if Merino can play their style, I think they pull away from Monte Vista late in the game. Regardless of if Merino plays Monte Vista or Walsenburg they will be tested.
Region 3 at Crowley County
#3 Crowley County over #30 Addenbrooke Classical
#14 Byers over #19 Vail Christian
I think both high seeds will be favored in this region. Byers could be tested by Vail Christian who is playing their best basketball currently, but I expect both high seeds to advance into the regional finals.
#3 Crowley County over #14 Byers
This was a very interesting draw for Crowley County. Byers is battle tested and coming into regionals and will try and pull the upset. Crowley County is looking for that return trip and is out to prove they can win it all. This should be a great game.
Region 4 at Plateau Valley
#4 Plateau Valley over #29 Wiggins
#13 Fowler over #20 Sargent
Plateau Valley vs Wiggins could be interesting but, Plateau Valley has the State Tournament experience to advance. Only problem I see for Platea Valley is they have not been challenged in a while. Fowler vs Sargent should be a good matchup. Sargent plays tough defense, and their style of play could be tough for teams. Fowler if they control the pace of play should walk away with the win.
#4 Plateau Valley over #13 Fowler
As mentioned, Plateau Valley has state tournament experience and I think that proves to make the difference in this game. Plateau Valley has the size to match Fowler and I think move onto the state tournament. I do think Fowler will challenge them.
Region 5 at Heritage Christian
#5 Heritage Christian over #28 Las Animas
#12 Holyoke over #21 Vail Mountain
Heritage Christian should defeat Las Animas as long as they can handle the length of Las Animas. Holyoke will be favored vs Vail Mountain. Vail Mountain will have to play better than they did against Vail Christian to pull the upset.
#5 Heritage Christian over #12 Holyoke
Heritage Christian defeated Holyoke during the regular season by 9 and I expect a much closer matchup this time around. It’s always tough to beat an opponent the second time around so look for this to be a game under 5 points. This should be a great matchup.
Region 6 at Sanford
#6 Sanford over Golden View Classical
#11 Holly over #22 Loveland Classical
Sanford will be heavily favored against Golden View Classical. I think Sanford get a big win to move into the regional finals. Holly vs Loveland Classical could be a great game. Loveland Classical proved all season they could beat the top teams but being upset at Districts does raise some concerns. Holly played very well against Fowler to snag the upset and have some momentum.
#6 Sanford over #11 Holly
Sanford, I think will be well rested for this game and could be the difference if Holly has to go the wire against Loveland Classical. Holly will have to play physically against a very good Sanford defense. I think this is one of the better games of the regional round.
Region 7 at Denver Christian
#7 Denver Christian over #26 Swink
#10 Wray over #23 Elbert
Both higher seeds will be favored in these matchups. My biggest concern is overlooking their first-round opponents to the regional finals. Swink and Elbert are both capable of pulling the upset but will have to play their best basketball.

I think the best possible matchup in the Regional Finals! Wray vs Denver Christian part 2. Denver Christian defeated Wray back in January 46 to 45. I am expecting a very similar result this time around. It will come down to how much teams have improved thru the months of January and February.
Region 8 at Mancos
#8 Mancos over #25 Sedgwick County
#9 Limon over #24 Akron
I expect both higher seeds to advance but both Sedgwick County and Akron have proven they can take any team to the end. Akron nearly upset Merino in the district tournament going to OT and Sedgwick County pushed Holyoke to the end. All four teams will have to play a full game to advance.
#9 Limon over #8 Mancos
If this matchup happens it should be a good one. I am giving the edge to Limon due to their tough schedule. Mancos is playing their best basketball right now so this should be a close game.
