Class 2A Boys Basketball Regional Predictions
Regionals are here and it’s win or go home time. Reaching Regionals is one of many steps for teams looking to reach the State Championship. To reach the state tournament is simple. Win your Region and you will go to the State Tournament. 8 regions and 8 teams advance to the State Tournament. Remember this is just my opinion, we are doing this for fun, and we are not cheering against any team. We know all the hard work that each team has put in to reach this point. I have said all year that Class 2A Boys is completely up in the air. Expect the unexpected this weekend!
Region 1 at Sanford
#1 Sanford over #32 Ridgway
#16 Custer County over #17 Center
I think the #16 vs #17 game will be a good one. Two teams looking to take their shot at the #1 team in the state and both with different play styles. This will be third matchup between these two with each team winning one. I don’t see Simla being upset in their first game.

Sanford is my pick to advance to the state tournament. Whoever Sanford faces it will be the third time they have met up. I am looking forward to a great matchup between whoever wins and Sanford. I worry the winner of Custer vs Center could be tired heading into the Saturday game.
Region 2 at Merino
#8 Merino over #25 Hoehne
#9 Limon over #24 Holyoke
I think both high seeds will advance. I do believe that both games should be competitive. Experience and playing a tough schedule should make the difference in these games.
#8 Merino over #9 Limon
This should be a state tournament matchup instead it’s a Regional Finals matchup and I believe the third time they meet up this season. Expect both teams to leave it all out on the Floor and expect this to be a close matchup. Merino holds a 2-0 series lead this season.
Region 3 at Twin Peaks Classical
#4 Twin Peaks Classical over #29 Akron
#13 Plateau Valley over #20 Trinidad
I think both matchups could be interesting in the opening round. Twin Peaks Classical did not step out much of their league so we truly don’t know how good they are besides their wins over Golden View and Front Range Christian. Plateau Valley vs Trinidad could also be intriguing.
#13 Plateau Valley over #4 Twin Peaks Classical
Oh boy! Do we have a good one here if it happens. I am picking the upset! Plateau Valley is finally back to full strength, and they scored 82 points once all back together on the court. Twin Peaks Classical is a good team but Plateau Valley does have State Tournament experience.
Region 4 at Golden View Classical (At Dakota Ridge)
#5 Golden View Classical over Sedgwick County
#12 Front Range Christian over Vanguard Classical
Both higher seeds will be favored to win the opening round. Sedgwick County could test the #5 seed as they have improved as the season has gone on.
#5 Golden View Classical over #12 Front Range Christian
Could be a good matchup if this happens in the regional finals. Golden View Classical defeated Front Range Christian by 7 back in December. Golden View Classical has state tournament experience and should make a difference.
Region 5 at Simla
#2 Simla over #31 Belleview Christian
#15 Crowley County over #18 Caprock Academy
Crowley County vs Caprock Academy should be a fantastic matchup. Two teams who want to take their shot at the #2 team. Simla will be the favorite in their matchup against Belleview Christian.
#2 Simla over #15 Crowley County
Last year’s State Championship matchup. Two very different teams from last year as well but I think it should be a good matchup. Crowley County has played better down the stretch and Simla has been a constant atop the Class 2A Rankings.
Region 6 at Vail Christian
#7 Vail Christian over #26 Dolores
#10 Haxtun over #23 Las Animas
Haxtun will be tested by Las Animas, and I feel the same could be said for Vail Christian vs Dolores. If there is a region that could see a 20 seed get an upset this is it.

Haxtun know what it takes to win a state champion (I know it was in Football) but they have the leadership plus played a tough schedule. Can Haxtun put a full weekend together to advance. I will say it again wouldn’t be surprised it a 20 seed gets out of this region!
Region 7 at Heritage Christian
#3 Heritage Christian over #30 Crested Butte
#19 Dayspring Christian over #14 Campion Academy
We don’t know much about Campion Academy. They played an interesting schedule so we will see if they can compete with the top teams in Class 2A. Dayspring Christian is playing there best basketball of the season and look for them to try and take on their league foe in the regional finals.
#3 Heritage Christian over #19 Dayspring Christian
These two teams faced each other back on January 6th with Heritage Christian winning 75 to 40. Dayspring Christian will hope to pull the huge upset. Heritage Christian is looking to get back to the State Tournament after falling in the regional finals last year.
Region 8 at Byers
#6 Byers over #27 Fowler
#11 Swallows Charter over #22 Union Colony Prep
I think both matchups in the opening round have some intrigue. Fowler vs Byers seems to happen a lot at regionals for some reason. Fowler also won 3 of their last 4 games. Union Colony Prep had a lot of hype coming into the year they also have hit a winning streak winning their last 4 games.
#6 Byers over #11 Swallows Charter
This should be an amazing game!! Byers has 5 loses on the year all 4 to top 10 teams in their respective classes plus Byers has State Tournament experience. Swallows Charter has won 12 games straight since losing back to back to Vail Christian & Las Animas.
