8man League Breakdown
The tie for first place still exists between Springfield and Granada. They don’t play each other till the last week of the season. Springfield plays McClave who is currently sitting in third place and McClave needs a statement win to try and sneak into the playoffs. McClave record is 3-4 so they need some help to get into the playoffs, with a loss and a record of 4-5 it might be hard for them to get into the playoffs. Granada plays Wiley and will be heavily favored. If both teams that are tied for first win this weekend it will set up a League Championship game and the Automatic berth to the playoffs.
Springfield vs McClave Wiley vs Granada
Las Animas vs Holly
With a win this weekend Vail Christian will clinch the League title. They play Pikes Peak Christian who has 1 win so Vail Christian will be heavily favored. In second is Elbert at 5-2 needs to win out to at least give the selection committee a chance to look over there resume. The bad thing for Elbert is that there one non-League game was against Kiowa and they lost Kiowa’s record is 2-5. Elbert will need some help to get into the playoffs. This conference will all be locked up after this weekend I believe.
Elbert vs Longmont Christian Pikes Peak Christian vs Vail Christian
Cripple Creek vs Nederland Justice vs Gilpin County
Rocky Mountain Lutheran vs West Grand
After last week the conference was not figured out any more than the week earlier, besides Sangre De Cristo still being in first. Sangre de Cristo plays Mancos this weekend and will be heavily favored to win. If Sangre De Cristo win this weekend they clinch the league title and the automatic berth that comes with it. The Dove Creek vs Sargent game is now huge. With Dove Creek beating Sanford last week they basically all but eliminated Sanford from the playoffs with them shifting down to fourth and not having any head to heads over Sargent or Dove Creek. The winner between Dove Creek and Sargent will be in second and a chance at the playoffs. I believe this League can get 3 teams into the playoffs. I believe Dove Creek and Sargent, maybe Sanford and Sangre de Cristo will be fighting for a playoff berth. For Sanford to sneak in they are going to need some major help and that would be for Sargent or Dove Creek to lose out and then they will move into third but that is also saying that they will have to beat Sangre De Cristo in the final game of the season. After looking at other Conference besides the Plains league most leagues are only 2 deep maybe a third so this League could sneak four teams in.
Mancos vs Sangre De Cristo Dove Creek vs Sargent
Sierra Grande vs Del Norte
With a win this weekend Dayspring Christian will clinch the league title and the automatic berth. They play Sedgwick County and will be favored over them. Before Sedgwick county started the tougher part of League play (Haxtun) they had one of the highest scoring teams in the state but since the Haxtun game they have only scored 24 ppg compared to the 66 ppg. Second thru fifth is still up for grabs. The only team that does not have a chance at the playoffs is Haxtun. The key game of the week will be between Akron and Caliche and it look to be one heck of a game. Both teams lost to Dayspring by 12 and 13 respectively. The winner will clinch second place just as long as Daysprings beats Sedgwick County, since both teams have head to head over Merino. If Caliche losses they will be in third but have the head to head over Merino and Sedgwick County and with the last game of the season vs Haxtun they should finish no worse than third. If Akron losses Sedgwick County still has a shot at fourth place, which will more than likely be needed to make the playoffs. I don’t think 5 teams can make it out of a League into the playoffs but I could be wrong. With a loss Akron plays Sedgwick County in the final game of the season and would in sorts be an elimination game. If Akron wins the Sedgwick County game would be more for Playoff Seeding.
Haxtun vs Merino Caliche vs Akron
Sedgwick County vs Dayspring Christian
The tie for first place will be broke after this weekend. Hoehne plays Simla in what I would say is the second biggest game of the weekend behind Akron vs Caliche. Hoehne who is traditionally a power house lost an early game to Springfield and have not been ranked since. Simla lost two early games to Merino and Akron and stayed ranked. This game figures to be good since starting League play both teams have dominated play. If Hoehne wins they clinch the league title and the automatic berth but Simla can finish no worse than second and I believe well enough for the playoffs. If Simla wins the clinch the league title and sets up a huge match between Hoehne and Custer County in what could be the match to determine 2nd and 3rd. If Custer County losses the last game of the season and Fowler wins out I Believe Fowler will have a decent resume at 5-4 and could sneak into the playoffs as well. The playoff picture I believe will be all but set from this conference after this weekend.
Fowler vs Swink Hoehne vs Simla
Custer County vs Kiowa Cripple Creek vs Nederland
This league is more than likely a one playoff team that being Norwood who already secured the League title and automatic playoff berth. The only teams that has an outside chance is Soroco and Hayden. They need to win out and then will need some help. They don’t have a quality non-league win and the only non-league win was over a JV team. Their non-league losses were blowouts to Sanford (Fourth Mountain) and Dayspring Christian (First Plains). So Soroco will need some help to get in and winning out will be the first key. At 5-3 their record will look better than at 4-4. Hayden would need a good showing against Norwood to have an outside chance but they would also need Soroco to lose this weekend to take second. If not they will be in third and with the 8man playoff system the way it’s I don’t think they will make it.
Norwood vs Hayden Soroco vs Plateau Valley
The 8man playoff selection is completely different than any other selection committee. Each league champion will be a part of the 16 team bracket the league champion will also be guaranteed a first round home game. Next each leagues #2 team will be placed on the board and ranked by the seeding committee. The top 3 #2 teams will be placed into the 16 team pool. This makes 9 of the 16 teams. Each league that had a #2 seed placed into the pool will have their #3 team placed on the board with the remaining #2 teams. These 6 teams will then be ranked 1-6. The top 3 teams will be placed into the pool of 16 teams. This makes 12 of the 16 teams. Each league that had a team placed into the pool the last round will have the next place team in their league moved up onto the board. The committee will rank these teams 1 thru 6. The top 3 teams will then be placed into the pool of 16. This makes 15 of the 16 teams. Each league that had a team placed into the pool the last round will have the next place team in their league moved up onto the board. The committee will rank these teams 1 thru 6. The #1 team on the board will make up the final team on the board of the 16 team pool. With that said I think that 20 teams have a chance to make the playoffs so four of those teams will not make it.
Ark Valley: Springfield, Granada, McClave, and Wiley
If Springfield and Granada win this weekend they can finish no worse than second. Both I think are locks into the playoffs if they win this weekend. For sure 2 teams will make it from this League.
Central: Vail Christian and Elbert
Vail Christian has already locked up the League Title. Elbert is currently in second and cannot afford to lose a game. Their non-league loss came to Kiowa who is 2-5. For Elbert to get in will take some help but they have a chance if they can win out.
Mountain: Sangre De Cristo, Dove Creek, Sargent, and Sanford
With a win this weekend Sangre De Cristo locks up the league title. This league has a possibility of getting four teams into the playoffs. The loser between Dove Creek and Sargent cannot afford to lose again this season or have a chance of Sanford jumping them. Sanford sits in fourth and needs some help from other people and need to beat Sangre De Cristo in the final week of the season.
Plains: Dayspring Christian, Akron, Caliche, Merino, Sedgwick County
I have looked thru the rules of the playoffs and if I counted correctly a League has a possibility of putting 5 teams in. If any league has a chance it will be the Plains League. They have 5 Teams ranked in the top 10 four in the top 5. So for them to get 5 teams in it would not surprise me at all. I would say 4 teams for sure, so teams will want to aim for at least that.
Southern: Hoehne, Simla, Custer County, and Fowler
I believe Hoehne and Simla are locks for the playoffs. I believe that this league will get three teams as well Custer County has a much tougher road with a final game against Hoehne and Fowler road is much easier.
Western Slope: Norwood and Soroco
Norwood has clinched the league title. Soroco on the other hand needs some huge help to get in. They have a blowout loss to Sanford who might not even make the playoffs so help will be needed to get in.
