Class Eight Man Semifinals Breakdown

  1. Dayspring Christian at 4. Granada Saturday 1:00 pm

Dayspring Christian continued it march towards a state championship with an impressive 42-0 victory over Vail Christian. Dayspring Christian used a 21 point second quarter to blow the game open. Once again Dayspring Christian used a good rushing attack, rushing for 254 yards on 29 carries and throwing for 123 yards. The 21 points allowed was the most Dayspring has given up in a game this year but the 42 points scored was their 5th game in a row over 40 points. Up next for Dayspring Christian is Granada. Granada blasted Akron 58-20 jumping out to an early first half lead and cruised to the victory. No stats were recorded for the game but Granada quarterback was a big factor and Akron’s defense could not stop him. Granada rushing attack was very good and they did enough in the passing game to keep Akron honest. The win for Granada was their 8th in a row and 2nd in a row over 40 points. They have a few common opponents they both played Las Animas, Akron, Merino, and Sedgwick County. Dayspring Christian beat all four of them and Granada went 3-1 against them. Dayspring Christian beat Las Animas 46-0, Akron 32-20, Merino 27-6, and Sedgwick County 53-21. Granada beat Las Animas 47-8, Akron 58-20, and Sedgwick County 48-15, they lost to Merino 28-16. This game figures to be a great one. The way Granada beat Akron gives them some big momentum going into the game. The key to this game will be Defense. Granada defense really shut down Akron offense, Granada will need to come back to that again against Dayspring Christian. Dayspring Christian will need to figure out a way to slow down Granada power rushing attack. I think Dayspring Christian has the better defense only allowing three game over 21 points. I don’t think Granada will be able to do enough to stop Daysprings Christian offense and I think Dayspring Christian will win by 21.

  1. Caliche vs 7. Simla Saturday 1:00 pm

Caliche kept it rolling with a nice 52-14 victory over Hoehne. Caliche used a big first half to blow the game wide open and continue its roll. No stats were uploaded for the game but the win for Caliche was their 6th in a row and their 6th in a row of over 35 points scored. Up next for Caliche is Simla. Simla scored the huge upset victory over previously undefeated Norwood 36-14. Simla used a very dominate ground attack in the win rushing for 305 yards on 45 carries. That win for Simla was their 8th in a row and their 8th with over 30 points scored. Both teams are coming into the match with some momentum. These two teams have 5 common opponents. Each played Haxtun, Merino, Akron, Kiowa, and Hoehne. Caliche went 5-0 against them beat Haxtun 56-12, Merino 37-14, Akron 49-24, Kiowa 49-6, and Hoehne 52-14. Simla went 3-2 against them beating Haxtun 44-6, Kiowa 49-6, and Hoehne 54-14 and losing to Merino 18-16 and Akron 62-26. The two losses for Simla were early on in the season and since then have been on a tear. The key to this game will be defense and who can control the line of scrimmage. Caliche has been very dominate all year averaging 43.2 ppg and having a very dominate defense. They will need to keep relying on their strung rushing attack and very good defense to move on. Since Simla last loss to Akron they have been unstoppable averaging over 40 ppg. The key for Simla is to have their defense preform like it did last week against Norwood and to have their offense on the same tear they have been on for 8 weeks. I think Caliche definitely has played the toughest schedule and has a more dominate defense. I don’t think Simla will be able to slow down Caliche offensive attack. Caliche will win this by 21 and move onto the state championship.
