Class 2A State Championship Breakdown

Well when they seeded the bracket they had these two teams pegged correctly. The championship game features undefeated #1 seeded Brush and undefeated #2 seeded Kent Denver. The game will be Saturday at 1:00 pm in Brush, Colorado.
Brush enters the Championship game getting a huge victory over Eaton 42-14, the victory ended Eaton’s Cinderella run in the playoffs. Brush used a very dominate second half to blow the game open and grab the mercy rule. There were no stats reported for the game. I do believe Brush was very dominate on the ground and used a great effort in slowing Eaton rushing attack down which had been very good during the first two games of the playoffs. The 42 points scored by Brush was their second playoff game with over 40 points scored and the 14 points allowed was the most allowed during the playoffs but their 3rd game in a row with 14 or less points scored. In the first game between the two Eaton scored 29 points but this time things changed. Brush will square off against 2nd seeded Kent Denver.
Kent Denver had not been challenged all year until they played Platte Valley. Kent Denver was trailing going into the fourth quarter. Kent Denver then scored the only points in the fourth quarter to snag the victory. The final score was 19-16 which was the least amount of points scored by Kent Denver all year. Kent Denver runs first offense was shut down. They gained 102 yards on 26 carries but went 8 of 16 for 154 yards thru the air and 3 touchdown passes. Kent Denver had similar success with their defense as well. Allowing only 16 points to a very efficient offense.
This State Championship game features very similar style teams. Both Kent Denver and Brush both rely heavily on their rushing attacks and specifically each team has one player they lean on. For Kent Denver it’s Jaden Franklin averaging over 150 ypg and for Brush it’s do it all Kyle Rosenbrock who averages over 145 ypg rushing and 110 passing ypg. Also both teams’ defenses are very good. Brush only allows 12 ppg and Kent Denver allows only 10 ppg. It’s safe to say why these teams have had the success they did. These teams have a few common opponents as well. Both teams played Faith Christian and Platte Valley both teams won these games. Brush won 21-0 against Faith Christian and 34-28 against Platte Valley and Kent Denver beat Faith Christian 39-7 and Platte Valley 19-16.
I am very excited for this game and it should not disappoint. The key for Brush to win is defense. It’s has been the staple of this team all year and they will definitely need it to be able to stop the rushing attack of Kent Denver. Also Brush needs to establish control of the line of scrimmage. The key for Kent Denver to win is basically the same. Kent Denver showed last week that it could still win when its rushing attack was not working. It also showed that you can contain its rushing attack so Kent Denver will need its stout defense to continoue what it has been doing all year. This game is shaping up to be a defensive struggle and I think that will be true.
My predictijon for this game is less than a combined 45 points will be scored. I think Brush will grab the victory. The reason why is their rushing attack has been challenged many times before playing the schedule they did and also their defense is used to stopping great rushing attacks. Brush wins by 10 and grabs the 2A state title.
