Class 8-Man Week 7 League Breakdown

Ark Valley

Last week we had a huge clash between Granada and Holly. Granada was able to steal a close win over Holly. That win put Granada in a tie for first with Wiley who is also 2-0. The game to watch this week is Wiley traveling to Springfield. Wiley has yet to face the three top teams in league and now will start their run at them. They will be looking to grab a win and if they do that they can finish no worse than third place. Springfield rebounded nicely last week blasting Las Animas. Springfield will need to keep the momentum going. This is a must win game for them. They cannot afford to go to 1-2 in league that will hurt any chances at going to the playoffs. Holly hosts McClave and Granada hosts Las Animas both of the home teams should win. The Ark Valley will grab three playoff berths.

Central

The Central league has all but sorted itself out. Vail Christian and West Grand are still sitting in first place at 4-0 and are also the league’s best chances at two playoff berths. Both of these teams should win this week as well. West Grand hosts Pikes Peak Christian and Vail Christian hosts Justice. If both teams win that keeps them at 5-0 and in complete control of their playoff chances. Nederland is sitting in third place and need to win this weekend to stay right behind the leaders and hope for an upset if they want to sneak into the playoffs.

Mountain

Last week in the Mountain League I figured there would be a close game when Sargent played Sangre De Cristo. Sargent ended up winning the game big and keeps pace for a big matchup against Dove Creek. Sargent this week hosts Del Norte and Sargent will win easily and move to 4-0 in league. Dove Creek hosts an improving Sanford teams. Sanford has grab a pair of nice wins and sits at 2-2 in league. They would need a ton to go in their favor if they would want to win the league title they could take a step towards that this week against Dove Creek. Dove Creek has been on fire since they lost to Norwood. Dove Creek should win easily this week and keep moving towards their matchup with Sargent. Mancos is sitting in third place and needs to win this weekend to keep pace and if they want to grab a playoff berth they really need this win to move to 5-2 overall.

Plains

For the first time in a long Dayspring Christian is not sitting atop the Plains league standings. Dayspring Christian was blasted by Akron 30 to 7 and moved to 1-1 in league play. Akron is now 2-0 in league and need to keep winning to set up their game against Sedgwick County. Akron right now might have the best defense in 8-man and a good offense to help them out. The team to watch out for in the Plains league looks to be Sedgwick County. They have not been challenged yet this season and blew by Merino last week 52 to 8. Sedgwick County easily has the best offense in 8 Man and probably the second best defense. The other big game from last week was Haxtun getting by Caliche 16 to 14. That win give Haxtun a big confidence booster and gets them to 1-1 in league play. This week Akron hosts Haxtun. Akron is looking to move to 3-0 in league and a chance at a league crown. Their defense has been great allowing 6.8 points per game and that includes their one loss to 11 man Holyoke. The most points Akron has allowed in a win was 13 to Plateau Valley. Haxtun took a big step last week downing Caliche and moving to 1-1. They will need their offense to be very good if they want to pull the upset. Akron should be able to grab the win and keep moving towards their season finally against Sedgwick County. Another good game will be Dayspring Christian at Merino. Merino came into league play undefeated and looking to challenge for a league crown. They have been blasted by the top two teams two week in a row and will be looking to rebound. Their Defense has throttled in the past two weeks giving up 42 and 52 points. They will need them to step up if they are going to pull the upset. Dayspring Christian is going to have to bounce back after losing to Akron last week. They now are looking to keep pace with the league leaders and give themselves a chance against Sedgwick County next week. They will need to shut down Merino’s rushing attack if they are going to win this game. I believe that Dayspring Christian will be able to do that and set up a monster game next week with Sedgwick County. The other game this week features Sedgwick County traveling to Caliche. I think Sedgwick County is going to easily get by them and move to 3-0 in league. They better not overlook Caliche this is a trap game for them. Caliche needs an upset if they are going to want to get back into consideration for a playoff spot. Right now they and Merino sit at 0-2 in league and when they face each other that will be for the fifth and final playoff spot from this league.

Southern

Well the Southern league was sorted out last week with Kiowa grabbing a huge win against Simla. Now Kiowa and Hoehne sit atop the standing. That tie will be broken this week when they face off against each other. Kiowa is having a great season after opening the season with an upset win over Caliche. Their one loss was to Granada and that was a close 28 to 26 loss. Last week Kiowa barely got by Caliche 20 to 14. Hoehne bounced back nicely after losing to Dove Creek two week ago beating Swink 84 to 22. I think this week we are in for a defensive struggle but I think Kiowa is going to grab a narrow victory and basically lock up the league crown. This league should grab 3 playoff spots.

Western Slope

The Western Slope league is pretty much sorted out. If Norwood wins this week they clinch the league title and more than likely a top 4 seed in the playoffs.   Norwood should easily move by Rangely this week. The one other game is Between Plateau Valley and Hayden. Plateau Valley need to win out if they want any chance at a wildcard berth. If Plateau Valley wins out that puts them at 6-3 and I believe that will be good enough for a berth into the playoffs.
