Week Three Class 8 Man and 6 Man Breakdown

Week Three Class 8 Man and 6 Man Breakdown

Class 8 Man

I will just give a quick rundown of both classes and quick preview. In 8 Man thing are really starting to come into picture.  The top 8 has moved around but has been the same since week zero.  The two spots that seem to keep moving is #9 and #10.  This week will be no difference as #10 Fowler lost to #6 Akron 48 to 6.  That loss will drop them out of the rankings and things do not get any easier for Fowler this week as they travel to play #2 Sargent.  Last week everything went as planned in the top 8 and no upsets happened.  The big games outside the top ten were Sangre De Cristo over Custer County 38 to 0, Pikes Peak Christian over Kiowa 48 to 8, Simla over Gilpin County 38 to 14, and Plateau Valley over Dove Creek 56 to 0.

#1 Dayspring Christian kept things rolling last week blowing past Granada 60 to 14. Dayspring Christian scored 38 points in the first quarter in the rout of Granada.  Granada ran the ball at will rushing for 315 yards led by Caleb Urwiller who rushed 6 times for 211 yards at 35.2 yards per carry and 3 touchdowns.  This week they play another team from that league.  The host Springfield this week.  Springfield last week was in a tight game but fell short to #4 Hoehne 24 to 8.  Springfield couldn’t get their offense going rushing for only 19 yards and throwing for only 69 yards.  Defensively they couldn’t stop the run they surrendered 386 yards to Hoehne.  Dayspring Christian will be the favorite this week.  I think Dayspring Christian offense is too tough to stop and that will be the deciding factor.  I have Dayspring Christian by 28.

#2 Sargent kept things rolling last week pounding Caliche 50 to 6. Sargent attacked them very evenly throwing for 172 yards and rushing for 227 yards.  Defensively they only allowed 6 points but also had an INT and a Blocked punt.  This week Sargent host Fowler who was ranked last week but fell from the rankings after losing to #6 Akron 48 to 6.  Fowler will have to quickly rebound as this Sargent Farmers team is no joke.  Fowler on offense ran for 128 yards and they threw for 39 yards.  The biggest problem for Fowler was defense.  They were smocked on the ground and gave up 444 yards of rushing.  203 yards came from Tyler Wylie who rushed 18 times and averaged 11.3 yards per carry and scored 3 touchdowns.  Three other Rams broke the 100 yard mark as well.  Fowler will once again be challenged on the ground and I am not sure they can stop the Sargent rushing attack as well.  I have Sargent winning by the same margin.

#3 Norwood cruised to a very easy victory last week smashing Northwest NM 61 to 0. They had the running clock by the third quarter.  Norwood didn’t have to do too much on offense only rushing for 186 yards but when you have short field then that is all you need to do.  Norwood this week hosts Sanford.  Sanford has struggled through three games this year.  They have been blown out in each one and I can’t see it getting any better in this game.  Last week Sanford lost to Soroco 62 to 28 and I could see this week score being very similar.  I have Norwood dropping 58 again and Sanford moving to 0-4.

#4 Hoehne outlasted Springfield last week winning 24 to 8. Hoehne ran the ball at will rushing for 386 yards.  Hoehne once again will be looking to get their run game going and control the temp of the game.  Hoehne has to make the trek down to #10 Holly this week.  Holly has gotten off to a great start.  They have yet to be scored on this year and are hoping their defense will be ready to go against a great rushing attack.  Holly on offense last week threw the ball extremely well throwing for 197 yards and rushing for 181 yards.  They are going to need their passing attack to be on point as they are facing one of the better defenses in 8 Man.  The deciding factor in this game will be can Holly stop Hoehne rushing attack if not this will be a long game for Holly.  I have Hoehne winning by 14.

#5 Merino had a bye week last week and this week faces off against Rocky Mountain Lutheran. Rocky Mountain Lutheran got blast last week by Haxtun 69 to 20.  Rocky Mountain Lutheran is going to have to improve their defense if they are wanting to stay in this game.  Merino is heavily favored in this game and should not have any problems against Rocky Mountain Lutheran.

#6 Akron has a bye this week and will be prepping for Sedgwick County next week which will be a huge League Clash.

#7 West Grand is off to a great start this year moving to 2-0 and blowing past South Park 42 to 14. West Grand has been very effecting on offense rushing for 240 yards last week and passing for 76 yards.  Defensively they held South Park to just 51 yards rushing and gave up 132 yards passing.  The is the biggest thing to fix this week.  This week West Grand travels to Nederland.  Nederland has gotten off to a decent start going 2-1 so far.  They blew past Miami Yoder last week winning 44 to 8.  Now they must refocus for this very good West Grand team.  They key for Nederland will be stopping West Grand offense.  If they can slow them down they will have a chance.  West Grand is heavily favored and should win by at least 28 points.

#8 Haxtun blew past Rocky Mountain Lutheran last week 69 to 20. They were very good on offense rushing for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns and throwing for 188 yards and 5 touchdowns.  This week Haxtun travels to Wiley.  Wiley has yet to play a game this year so it will be interesting to see how well they play.  I don’t think many teams can keep up with Haxtun offense and I see Haxtun winning this game.

#9 Sedgwick County had last week off in preparation for the game of the week this week. Sedgwick County a week ago played 1A Yuma and kept their consecutive shutouts alive blanking Yuma 48 to 0.  This week Sedgwick County hosts Perkins County who is #1 in Nebraska in 8 man.  This will be Sedgwick County first real test to see how good they are.  Perkins County has had 1 close game in week one winning 54 to 42 other than that have blew past the other two teams they have played 68 to 12 and 51 to 14.  If Sedgwick County wants to pull the upset they are going to have to score a ton of points and use their great defense they have had the past few years.  I am not sure if Sedgwick County has enough fire power to win this game and I have them losing by 14 points to Perkins County NE.

Non Top Ten Key Games:

McClave at Swink                                                                             Soroco at Rangely

Kiowa at Granada                                                                            Las Animas at Custer County

Caliche at Gilpin County                                                                 Pikes Peak Christian at Simla

8 Man Player of the Week!

The player of the week in week 2 goes to Caleb Urwiller from Dayspring Christian. In Dayspring Christian win over Granada Urwiller rushed 6 times for 211 yards at a shocking 35.2 yards per carry and 3 touchdowns.

Class 6 Man

There have been some high scoring games in the first two weeks of 6 Man and I don’t expect it to slow down any times soon. The top ten nearly held serve but one upset sent wrinkles in the 6 man group.  #5 Eads was upset by Genoa Hugo 49 to 28.  That loss for Eads was the first in over a year and now Eads will have to quickly bounce back.  Another game of importance was #7 La Veta vs #9 Walsh.  You want to talk about a score that should be a basketball score than this is the game.  La Veta won the shootout 79 to 64.  One other shootout was Briggsdale vs Prairie.  Briggsdale won 65 to 53.  We have one new team added to the rankings thanks to Eads being upset and dropping out of the top ten.  Cheyenne Wells is joining the rankings for the first time this year.  They have two very good victories this year beating Hi Plains/Flagler and Branson/Kim both were blowouts.  Some scores from last week were #1 Kit Carson beating Cheraw 42 to 26, #2 Stratton/Liberty over Elbert 44 to 13, #4 Cotopaxi over Hanover 58 to 14, #6 Arickaree/Woodlin over Pawnee 48 to 22, #8 Otis over Weldon Valley 33 to 7, Hi Plains over Idalia 30 to 12, Sierra Grande over Mountain Valley 46 to 6.

There are a ton of big games this week in the 6 Man group. The game of the week has to be #3 Fleming making the trip to #5 Arickaree/Woodlin.  I am going with the upset on this game and have #5 Arickaree/Woodlin winning this one.  Another important game is #7 Otis traveling to Hi Plains.  Otis is out to prove they are a team to mess with and I think will win this game by 28 points.  One more top ten game is #8 Cheyenne Wells hosting #9 Walsh.  I left Walsh ranked due to how well they played in their first two games.  This will be the first tough test for Cheyenne Wells.  I think Cheyenne Wells will win this game but I expect another shootout here as well.  Two games not in the top ten to talk about are Cheraw traveling down to Eads and Sierra Grande traveling to Primero.  These games all have big implication for the league race and to see how good some of these teams are.

Top Ten Games not mentioned:

#1 Kit Carson vs Genoa Hugo                                                      #2 Stratton/Liberty vs Cripple Creek

#4 Cotopaxi over Aguilar (Forfeit)                                             #6 La Veta vs Manzanola

#10 North Park at Longmont Christian

Non Top Ten Key Games

Peetz at Idalia                                                                                    Weldon Valley at Briggsdale

Prairie at Pawnee                                                                            Hanover at Elbert

6 Man Player of the week!!

The 6 Man Player of the week goes to Kyle Klann senior from Hi Plains/Flagler. Last week in their win over Idalia he racked up 211 yards rushing on 20 carries for 10.6 yards per carry he also had 1 touchdown.  On defense he was a vital part to their game having 8 total tackles 1 INT, 2 fumble causes and 1 fumble recovery.
