Class 2A Baseball League Breakdown

District 1

One team is in the driver seat when it comes to district 1.  Sargent is currently 5-0 in league and has the sweep over Center already who is in second.  Sargent plays Sanford this weekend who is in third and just needs to split the series to lock up the #1 seed for the District Tournament.  Center is in second place and sweep Sanford last weekend in dominate fashion winning both games by 10 runs.  Center has second place locked up if they can avoid upsets against Del Norte and Cripple Creek.  Sanford is in third and would need some help to move into the top two spots for the District Tournament.  Remember the way 2A works is the winner of the District tournament qualifies for Regionals and then the rest of the field is picked by RPI.  So, you need a Top 16 or better RPI to snag a spot at regionals.  RPI numbers for District 1 are:

#11 Sargent, #22 Center, #23 Sanford, #38 Del Norte, #41 South Park, #46 Cripple Creek

Currently only Sargent is into the Regional bracket, but Center and Sanford are still in the race for a spot.

District 2

Sedgwick County is in complete control now of District 2.  Sedgwick County blasted Haxtun last night in both games and are now 10-0 in league.  Sedgwick County still has games against Wray, Merino, and Wiggins but are in the driver’s seat.  Yuma is in sole control of second place at 8-2.  Yuma still must play Haxtun this weekend and that will figure out second place.  Yuma also has league games remaining against Holyoke and Akron.  Wiggins and Haxtun are now tied in third place and Wiggins has the head to head sweep over Haxtun.  Wiggins must take care of business to lock up the #3 seed for the tournament and cannot fall against Caliche or Wray.  Haxtun would need some help to just back into the #3 spot.  Haxtun would probably need an upset or at least a split with Yuma to have a chance at the #3 spot.  The RPI numbers for District 2 are:

#2 Sedgwick County, #5 Yuma, #10 Haxtun, #15 Wiggins, #21 Holyoke, #28 Merino, #30 Wray, #34 Akron

Currently Sedgwick County, Yuma, Haxtun, and Wiggins would make it to Regionals.  Wiggins is on the bubble and Holyoke is looking to move into the top 16.

District 4

District 4 is a mix of a couple leagues and because of that we have 3 undefeated teams.  Burlington, Limon, and Front Range Christian are all undefeated in league.  Limon and Burlington, I believe will have a make up game they were supposed to play 4/13 but weather may have delayed that game.  Limon this weekend plays Front Range Christian, and this will help determine the order for the District Tournament.  Burlington has no league games remaining and has a tough schedule to end the year.  Burlington has Yuma and Rocky Ford remaining on their schedule.  Front Range Christian will not play Burlington this year so beating Limon will give them a huge boost.  Front Range Christian also has a tough schedule remaining with games against Longmont Christian, Lyons, and Dawson School.  I am guessing District 4 will be seeded by RPI, but I am not sure how they will seed their District bracket.  RPI numbers for District 4 are:

#3 Limon, #16 Front Range Christian, #17 Burlington, #31 Denver Christian, #36 Byers, #42 Denver Academy

Currently Limon and Front Range Christian would be the teams making it to Regionals.  Burlington is #17 and trying to sneak into the Top 16.

District 3/5

District 3/5 confuses me a bit.  I am guessing that this District gets two spots in general, but I am not 100% sure if anyone knows please let me know.  I am going to assume for today that the #1 and #2 teams from the District tournament automatically qualify.  Currently 3 teams are undefeated in league Paonia, Hotchkiss, and Meeker.  Paonia picked up their first lose of the entire season last night losing to 5A Grand Junction 9-8.  Paonia will face both Meeker and Hotchkiss in the next two weeks and we should have are District #1 by 4/26.  Paonia faces Meeker on 4/21 and Hotchkiss on 4/26.  Hotchkiss does not play Meeker until 5/7 so they could possibly have to wait until then to know if they are League Champions and #1 seed.  Meeker is the surprise team this year.  They have 3 league games remaining against Paonia, Rangely, and Hotchkiss.  Meeker has locked up no worse than the #3 seed but are looking to prove they are a legit threat and will have a chance to prove it this weekend against Paonia.  RPI numbers for District 3/5 are:

#7 Paonia, #8 Hotchkiss, #20 Meeker, #33 Ignacio, #35 Dolores, #44 Rangely

Currently only Paonia and Hotchkiss would make it to Regionals but Meeker still has plenty of games to improve their RPI and will make a solid push for a Top 16 spots.

District 6

District 6 has been very competitive so far; this season and one team so far has gone undefeated.  Rocky Ford currently is 8-0 in league and has 4 league games remaining.  Rocky Ford has sweeps over Swink and County Line but still has double headers against Crowley County and Fowler.  Rocky Ford is in control of their own destiny and if they can at least split both double headers they will lock up the #1 seed for the District tournament.  Crowley County is currently in second place at 4-2.  Crowley County is still a long way from wrapping up the #2 spot and since they split with Fowler and John Mall they are going to need some sweeps to help lock up that spot.  Crowley County plays Swink this weekend 4/21.  Crowley County still has league games against Swink, Rocky Ford, and County Line.  Fowler who is alone in third only has double headers against Swink and Rocky Ford.  Fowler can help their own cause by sweeping Swink, but Fowler was sweep by County Line and will need some help to hold onto the #3 seed.  Swink and County line are tied at 3-3 but have plenty of games to try and move up in the league standings.  RPI numbers for District 6 are:

#9 Rocky Ford, #24 Fowler, #26 Swink, #27 County Line, #32 Crowley County, #39 John Mall, #40 Las Animas

Currently only Rocky Ford would make it to Regionals.  Fowler, Swink, and County Line are all hoping to make a run for the Top 16.

District 7

District 7 has been an interesting road so far with the Top 4 teams all trading wins and losses.  Lyons is 4-1 in league with their lone lose coming to Highland.  Lyons though avenged that lose beating Dayspring Christian and keeping everyone at 1 lose a piece.  Lyons still has tough games against Dawson School and Front Range Christian which will determine a lot for Lyons.  Dawson School is also 4-1 with them lose coming to Dayspring Christian.  Dawson School still must play Highland and Lyons this year and those games will determine quite a bit for Dawson School.  Highland is 3-1 in league with them lose coming to out of district Front Range Christian.  Highland did beat Lyons last week but a huge game against Dawson School on 4/21 will determine a lot.  Dayspring Christian is 2-1 in league.  They have a lose to Lyons but beat Dawson School.  Dayspring Christian still must play Highland.  I am guessing District 7 Tournament will be seeded by RPI due to different league all playing in the district.  RPI numbers for District 7 are:

#12 Lyons, #13 Dawson School, #14 Highland, #18 Dayspring Christian, #27 Clear Creek, #43 Gilpin County

Currently Lyons, Dawson School, and Highland would make it to Regionals.  Dayspring Christian is at #18 and still very much in the hunt for a top 16 spots.

District 8

Peyton currently sits atop the District 8 standings and with 2 double headers remaining could nearly lock up the #1 seed when they play Calhan on 4/24.  Peyton is 6-0 in league.  Calhan is in second place at 5-1 and will need to sweep Peyton for the #1 spot in league.  Calhan is also looking to lock up the #2 spot but will need to sweep Simla at the end of the year especially if they get sweep by Peyton.  Calhan has one league lose to Evangelical Christian which they split a pair of games with.  Sitting in third is Ellicott at 3-2 and in fourth is Evangelical Christian at 1-3.  Evangelical Christian and Ellicott play each other today and tomorrow and the winner of those games will give themselves a chance for a top 3 top still.  Ellicott with a sweep of ECA could still win the league but would need to win out all league games including a sweep of Peyton at the end of the year.  RPI numbers for District 8 are:

#1 Peyton, #4 Evangelical Christian, #6 Calhan, #19 Ellicott, #25 Dolores Huerta, #29 Simla

Currently Peyton, Evangelical Christian, and Calhan would all be into Regionals.  Ellicott, Dolores Huerta, and Simla are all in the hunt still to make moves into the Top 16.
