Class 2A Baseball League Breakdown

District 1

District 1 is all wrapped up in terms of seeding for the District Tournament.  Sargent has locked up the #1 seed and Center has locked up the #2 seed.  Sargent and Center will not have to play the play in games and will be waiting to see who they play.  RPI numbers for District 1 are not the best and 3 teams are hoping to make a run for a Top 16 spot.  RPI numbers for District 1 are:

#11 Sargent, #23 Center, #27 Sanford, #34 Del Norte, #43 South Park, #46 Cripple Creek

Currently only Sargent is into the Regional bracket, but Center and Sanford are still in the race for a spot.  Center will be looking to win out the season to get above .500.

District 2

Sedgwick County is in control of District 2.  Sedgwick County has 4 league games left against Caliche (x2) and Wiggins (x2).  Sedgwick County has the head to head over Yuma and just as long as they split their final 4 games will lock up the #1 seed for the District Tournament.  Yuma is looking to lock up the #2 seed and have games remaining against Holyoke (x2) and Akron (x2).  Yuma owns the head to head over Wiggins and just need to split their final 2 games to lock up the #2 seed.  Wiggins and Haxtun are also looking to lock up Top 4 seeds for the District tournament.    Wiggins looks good for the #3 seed owning the tie-breaker over Haxtun but must sweep Wray.  Haxtun has the #4 seed all locked up if they sweep their final league games.  The RPI numbers for District 2 are:

#3 Sedgwick County, #10 Yuma, #17 Haxtun, #20 Wiggins, #25 Holyoke, #32 Wray, #33 Merino, #39 Akron

The RPI numbers for District 2 have dropped quite a bit from last week.  Last week 4 teams were in the Top 16 and this week only 2 teams are in the Top 16.  Sedgwick County and Yuma are solid locks for Regionals.  Haxtun and Wiggins are not on the outside looking in and will need to take care of business to jump into the Top 16.

District 4

District 4 is a mix of a couple leagues.  I am not sure how they are going to seed the District 4 bracket, but I am guessing either RPI or a mix of head to heads wins.  If you use RPI the seeding for the District Tournament would be: #1 Limon, #2 Front Range Christian, #3 Burlington, #4 Denver Christian, #5 Byers, #6 Denver Academy.  Limon and Front Range Christian would also receive byes from the play-in games and await the winners for the Semifinals.  RPI numbers for District 4 are:

#2 Limon, #16 Front Range Christian, #22 Burlington, #31 Denver Christian, #41 Byers, #42 Denver Academy

District 4 RPI numbers have also dropped.  Limon is a lock for Regionals, but Front Range Christian is now #16 and is going to need to take care of business to avoid missing the cut.  Burlington is #22 and still in the hunt but will need to take care of their own business.

District 3/5

With my confusion of District 3/5 cleared and only 1 automatic berth is given away.  District 3/5 could be decided tonight when Paonia and Hotchkiss face off.  If Paonia beats Hotchkiss, then Paonia is your #1 seed.  If Hotchkiss wins they still must play Meeker who only has 1 league lose.  Those 3 teams are the only ones fighting for the #1, #2, or #3 seeds.  Dolores has locked up the #4 seed.  Meeker can still finish second as well and avoid the play-in games when they face Hotchkiss.  RPI numbers for District 3/5 are:

#5 Paonia, #7 Hotchkiss, #18 Meeker, #29 Dolores #36 Ignacio, #44 Rangely

RPI numbers have improved for District 3/5.  Paonia has moved into the Top 5 and Hotchkiss has moved into the Top 8. Meeker is also in the hunt for a Top 16 spot and with a game remaining against Hotchkiss their RPI will improve.  Meeker must avoid any bad losses to close the season if they want a shot at a Top 16 spot.

District 6

District 6 has been very competitive so far; this season and one team so far has gone undefeated.  Rocky Ford currently is 8-0 in league and has 4 league games remaining.  Rocky Ford has sweeps over Swink and County Line but still has double headers against Crowley County and Fowler.  Rocky Ford is in control of their own destiny and if they can at least split both double headers they will lock up the #1 seed for the District tournament.  In just 1 week the order has changed significantly in terms of seeds.  County Line, Swink, and Fowler are all tied at 5-3.  County Line owns the head to head over Fowler, County Line and Swink split their games but Swink won by more runs if that is the tie-breaker.  Swink still must face Fowler and they square off on 4/28 and that game will decide a ton.  If Swink sweeps Fowler and Las Animas they will finish in a tie with County Line.  I am not sure of the tie-breaker I am guessing head to head scores and that would make Swink the #2 seed.  If Swink splits with Fowler and County Line sweeps their final 4 league games, then County Line is your #2 seed.  Fowler future is still up in the air.  Fowler split with Crowley County but head to head score wise Crowley County won by more runs.  Fowler needs to at least split with Swink to give them a shot at the #4 seed.  Fowler would need sweeps of both Swink and Rocky Ford to even have a shot at the #2 seed and would still need help.  Fowler can still finish with a top 3 seed but a sweep of Swink is needed.  Crowley County locked for a Top 5 finish but can still improve their seed if Fowler does not split with Swink.  RPI numbers for District 6 are:

#9 Rocky Ford, #14 Swink, #19 County Line, #26 Fowler, #28 Crowley County, #37 John Mall, #45 Las Animas

Currently only Rocky Ford and Swink would make it to Regionals.  County Line still has a good shot at Regionals and Fowler and Crowley County are going to need some upsets to make a run for a Top 16 spot.

District 7

District 7 has been an interesting road so far with the Top 4 teams all trading wins and losses.  Lyons is 5-1 in league with their lone lose coming to Highland.  Lyons though avenged that lose beating Dayspring Christian and keeping everyone at 1 lose a piece.  Lyons still has tough game against Front Range Christian and that game will decide a ton.  Dayspring Christian and Highland also sit at 4-1 in the league standing and they play each other on 4/30 and that game could decide the #2 seed.  Highland though still must play Dawson School so two very tough games remain for Highland.  I am guessing District 7 Tournament will be seeded by RPI due to different league all playing in the district tournament.  I could see some head to head being used as well but there is a real possibly of two teams ending with only 1 league lose.  RPI numbers for District 7 are:

#8 Lyons, #12 Dayspring Christian, #13 Highland, #15 Dawson School, #30 Clear Creek, #38 Gilpin County

Currently Lyons, Dayspring Christian, Highland, and Dawson are all in to regionals.  Dayspring Christian, Highland, and Dawson School though are all on the bubble still and one bad lose could hurt going down the stretch.

District 8

District 8 is nearly wrapped up.  Peyton beat Calhan last night to take game 1 of 2.  If Peyton wins again today, then Peyton is your #1 seed for the District Tournament.  If Calhan wins then they would need Peyton to split games with Ellicott next week to have a shot at the #1 seed.  Peyton does look like they will close out as the #1 seed.  Calhan on the other hand has only locked up a Top 3 finish.  Calhan split with ECA and lost by more runs.  Calhan needs to win today to lock up a Top 2 seed.  If Calhan loses today, then it goes to the tie-breaker.  ECA still has 3 league games against Simla, and a double header against Dolores Huerta.  If Evangelical Christian wins out they will be at least a top 3 seed and if Peyton beats Calhan today more than likely a #2 seed for the District Tournament.  Ellicott is also still in the air for the #4 seed but a win against Dolores Huerta today will lock up a #4 seed.  RPI numbers for District 8 are:

#1 Peyton, #4 Evangelical Christian, #6 Calhan, #21 Dolores Huerta, #24 Ellicott, #35 Simla

Currently Peyton, Evangelical Christian, and Calhan would all be into Regionals.  Ellicott and Dolores Huerta are still in the hunt for a Top 16 spot but may need an upset to close the gap.
