Class 3A Boys Basketball League Predictions

I am going to pick the Top 3 in Class 3A because in 3A only the Top 2 are guaranteed spots into the State Tournament.  I have not posted this in a while so a good update is needed for Class 3A.

Confluence/Colorado 8

  1. DSST-Byers
  2. DSST-Green Valley Ranch
  3. Fort Lupton

The Confluence/Colorado 8 is once again shaping up to be one of the weaker Leagues in Class 3A.  A few of the top teams are making their moves into top positions.  Currently 4 team have .500 records and above they DSST-Byers, DSST-Green Valley Ranch, Lotus School (2A), and Fort Lupton.  DSST-Byers seems poised to win this league.  DSST-Byers has won 7 of 8 games in 2019 including a 21-point win over DSST-Green Valley Ranch.  DSST-Green Valley Ranch would be my pick for second place.  DSST-Green Valley Ranch has three losses in 2019 but have now won 4 straight games.  My pick for third place is Fort Lupton.  Fort Lupton at times has played good basketball but their last loss to Skyview raises some questions for Fort Lupton.

Frontier

  1. DSST-Stapleton
  2. The Academy
  3. Middle Park

The Frontier League has one team rising to the top and that is DSST-Stapleton.  DSST-Stapleton has just 1 team standing in their way of a regular season league title.  DSST-Stapleton is sitting atop the league standings and Middle Park is the only team that could derail their regular season title.  They play Middle Park on 2/5.  My pick for second place is The Academy.  The Academy started the season going 0-4 but have played much better in 2019.  The Academy picked up a huge league win over Middle Park 62-42 to control their own destiny for the #2 seed in the league tournament.  The Academy has 4 games remaining with Sheridan and Arrupe Jesuit their biggest remaining challenges.  My pick for third place is Middle Park.  Middle Park picked up its first loss of 2019 losing to The Academy.  Middle Park now must bounce back quickly against Platte Canyon tonight and KIPP Collegiate tomorrow.  Middle Park still has three remaining test and they could still force a tie for 1st place when they host DSST-Stapleton.

Intermountain

  1. Bayfield
  2. Centauri
  3. Alamosa

The Intermountain league has been a crazy race so far with many teams beating each other and we are getting ready for the second round of games.  Currently Bayfield is leading the league with a 5-1 record.  Bayfield has 2 wins over Alamosa but lost to Centauri this past week to pick up their first league loss.  Bayfield this week will be my pick to win the league.  Bayfield has been challenged most of their league wins except for their 19-point win over Pagosa Springs.  My pick for second place is Centauri.  Centauri picked up a critical win over Bayfield this past week.  Centauri will have to battle everyone one more time in league and they will try to avenge their losses to Pagosa Springs and Montezuma-Cortez.  Centauri plays Pagosa Springs and Bayfield this weekend.  My pick for third place is Alamosa.  Alamosa holds down the #3 spot due to wins over Pagosa Springs and Montezuma-Cortez.  Alamosa did suffer a injury to a key player and seeing how they adjust will be key.  Alamosa is on 3 games losing streak.  Alamosa plays Monte Vista and Montezuma-Cortez this weekend neither is a push over opponent.

Metro

  1. Manual
  2. Faith Christian
  3. Lutheran

Manual has taken control of the Metro league.  Manual picked up big wins over Faith Christian, Kent Denver, and Colorado Academy.  Manual has just Lutheran standing in their way for a regular season league title.  Manual squares off against Lutheran on 2/13.  Manual is a team to watch for and my pick to win the Metro.  My pick for second place is Faith Christian.  Faith Christian has just 1 league loss to Manual by 7.  Faith Christian picked up a big 1-point win over Lutheran and a 17-point win over Colorado Academy.  Faith Christian won’t know their fate until they face Kent Denver on 2/12.  A win over Kent Denver gives Faith Christian the #2 seed for the league tournament.  My pick for third place is Lutheran.  Lutheran picked up a massive win over Kent Denver 54-31, but I do know Kent Denver is still missing Coby Gold and I am not sure how long he is out for.  Lutheran does control their own fate, but their remaining schedule looks tough.  Lutheran still has to play Jefferson Academy, Colorado Academy, and Manual and to finish third must win 2 of their final 3 games.  The Metro league has been one of the more competitive leagues and will be interesting to see how this league turns out.

Patriot

  1. Sterling
  2. Resurrection Christian
  3. Platte Valley

The Patriot league is another top league with just two teams under .500.  Sterling is in control of the Patriot league picking up the win against Resurrection Christian in OT.  Sterling cannot lock up the league title this weekend but when they face Platte Valley on 2/5 that could be for the regular season league title.  Sterling has proven they are one of the top teams in the state and seeing how they perform this offseason will be key.  My pick for second place is Resurrection Christian.  Resurrection Christian has 4 games remaining with two of them being tough challenges.  Resurrection Christian of course must win out to finish second in league and Strasburg and Frontier Academy will give their best shots to pick-up big-league wins.  My pick for third is Platte Valley.  Platte Valley has a huge game tonight against University and could be for the #3 seed in the district tournament.  Platte Valley has remaining games against University, Sterling, Valley, and Brush so their seed is still very much up in the air.

Tri-Peaks

  1. Vanguard
  2. Lamar
  3. S Christian

One team has jumped up to the top of the league standings and that is Vanguard.  Vanguard has soared to the top of the league standings and basically locked up the regular season title beating C.S Christian 68-56.  Vanguard has 3 league games remaining but will be the favorite to win all three.  Vanguard is another team to watch come postseason play.  Picking second and third was a much more difficult thing.  I am going to stick with Lamar in second place.  Lamar has played well in 2019 with their lone loss coming to Vanguard.  Lamar still has a gauntlet to run with games against St. Mary’s, Salida, and La Junta remaining.  My pick for third place is C.S Christian.  C.S Christian nearly was upset last night beating Salida by 3 point.  C.S Christian remaining schedule is pretty easy with their toughest matchup coming against James Irwin.  C.S Christian should finish with a top 3 seed for the league tournament easily.

Western Slope

  1. Delta
  2. Roaring Fork
  3. Coal RIdge

What a surprise the Western Slope league has turned into.  The preseason favorite to win the Western Slope league is sitting 5th in the league standings.  Coal Ridge has lost to Gunnison, Delta, and Grand Valley and now are hoping to rise up the league standing to try and improve their seed for the league tournament.  My pick for first place in the Western Slope league goes to Delta.  Delta has played well in 2019 picking up two losses to 4A opponents Montrose and Palisade.  Delta has taken care of business against League opponents beating Roaring Fork, Coal Ridge, and Grand Valley.  Delta cannot lock up a regular season league title until they face Gunnison on 2/14 or get a few upsets to help.  My pick for second place in the league is Roaring Fork.  Roaring Fork picked up a big 14-point win over Gunnison last weekend.  Roaring Fork has just 1 loss in 2019 but their remaining schedule will test to see how far this team has come.  My pick for third place is Coal Ridge.  Coal Ridge has had a rough 2019 but I think once they get into the tournament they will pick things up.  Coal Ridge should be able to win 4 of their final 5 games to help their league standings.  We will see if Coal Ridge can get things together and return to 2018 form.
