Boys Basketball Regional Predictions and State Tournament Projections Class 1A

I will be making my 2019 Regional Predictions and seed the State Tournament based on RPI.

Region 1

Pick: De Beque

De Beque vs Genoa-Hugo is a good matchup.  Genoa-Hugo has proven they can upset a few teams with wins over Burlington, Stratton/Liberty, and Kit Carson.  De Beque is my favorite right now to win the entire thing but De Beque better come ready to play.  I am going with De Beque in this game.

Pick: Evangelical Christian

Evangelical Christian vs Ouray will be a great matchup and is a hard matchup to pick.  ECA beat Genoa-Hugo by 14 points and ECA also picked up a solid win over Peyton before the District tournament.  ECA should get by Ouray but will be a good match up.

Region 2

Pick: Prairie

Prairie vs Arickaree/Woodlin will be a very good matchup and the winner of that matchup I think wins this bracket.  Mile High Academy did win the District 8 tournament.  I am wondering how strong District 8 is but I am going with Prairie in this bracket.

Pick: Merino

Merino played a 2A schedule for most of their year and proved they can hang with anyone.  Merino won their District tournament beating Prairie in the finals.  Merino will have to beat Stratton/Liberty in the first round, but I think Merino consistency will prevail.  Front Range Baptist finished 3rd in their District losing to Mile High Academy and beating Cornerstone Christian.  Front Range Baptist will have a hard time playing against quality guards, but my guess is Deric Woods will need a massive tournament for Front Range Baptist to win.

Pick: Haxtun

Bracket 3 is one of the toughest in this region and the first game between Peetz and Denver Waldorf is an intriguing matchup.  Denver Waldorf upset Front Range Baptist but lost in the finals to Mile High Academy.  Denver Waldorf is playing good basketball, but can they continue playing at a high level.  Peetz finished third in their district losing to Merino.  Peetz beat Caliche in the 3rd place game and must play a solid game to get past Denver Waldorf.  The winner will have their handful with a very good Haxtun team.  Haxtun won their region beating Arickaree/Woodlin in the District finals.  Haxtun also pushed #1 2A Yuma to overtime and are a team I think can push for a state title.

Region 3

Pick: Sangre De Cristo

McClave vs Kim/Branson is a good matchup but the winner will have to play a hot Sangre De Cristo team.  I am going with Kim/Branson to beat McClave, but Kim/Branson will have to play their best game of the season to try and upset Sangre De Cristo.  Sangre De Cristo is another team I think can compete for a State title.  Sangre De Cristo must stay playing at a high level if they plan to go deep in the postseason.

Pick: Cheraw

Bracket 2 got much tougher when Springfield upset Walsh in the District finals.  Walsh I am picking to beat Sierra Grande, but Cheraw vs Walsh will be one of the best games in the Regional finals.  I am going with Cheraw over Walsh, but this will be a great game.

Pick: Cheraw

Springfield upset Walsh in the District finals and shook the bracket up.  Springfield did not get an easy draw and I think Bracket 3 in this Region is the toughest due to 3 very good teams.  Creede vs Kit Carson is a rematch from last year’s Regional finals and this year another great game should be on tap.  I am going with Creede over Kit Carson, but it can easily be flipped.  Creede vs Springfield should be a good game but I am going with Springfield.  Springfield is a hot team right now and I think they advance against either Creede or Kit Carson.

State Tournament Bracket

I am using RPI to seed the Bracket and avoiding District matchups.

#1 De Beque vs #8 Prairie

#4 Springfield vs #5 Evangelical Christian

#3 Cheraw vs #6 Haxtun

#2 Sangre De Cristo vs #7 Merino
