MileHigh Prep Report Volleyball Preseason Rankings Class 2A

Finally moving into the Volleyball side of the fall season.  I will go Class by Class and give my Top 16 and a few teams to watch for.

Class 2A

Rank Team Notes
#1 Denver Christian

Made the State Tournament, Runner Ups

Denver Christian came up just short in the State Championship and they are looking to go for it all this year.  Denver Christian returns their top two hitters Jacki Bogner and Anna Kaemingk combined the two have 681 kills.  Denver Christian though will have holes to fill at setter and find a new libero.
#2 Limon

Made the State Tournament, 2-2

Limon was just 1 game short of making the Final four.  Limon had a great run in the state tournament as the #12 seed and this year will be tough again.  Limon will lose their top hitter but return their next 5 hitters.  Look for Trista Marx and Amy Weisensee to step up and lead the hitting.  Limon also will return setter Lauren Stang but look for a new libero to really step up this year.
#3 Lyons

Made the State Tournament, went 1-2

Lyons had a solid year last year after losing a very talented senior class.  Lyons now will be in a bit more of a attack mode with 5 of their top 6 hitters returning.  Leading the attack Taylor Maguire with 481 kills last year and she will be joined by fellow senior Charlotte Rogers.  The one big loss for Lyons is at setter and look for Avery Joy to step into that position this year.
#4 Wiggins

Made the State Tournament, Went 2-2

Wiggins got to the Final 4 last year but came up just short against Denver Christian to be eliminated.  Wiggins is looking for another return trip this year.  Wiggins will have to replace their top hitter but return their #2 and #3 hitters.  Wiggins will have holes to fill at setter and libero this year but their offensive attack I think stays strong.
#5 Yuma

Defending State Champions

Yuma was able to snag the state championship last year beating Denver Christian in the final.  Yuma is losing a great senior class and may take a bit of a step back this year.  Yuma will look to sophomore Elle Roth and Junior Ema Richardson to step up and take over the offensive attack.  Yuma will return their setter from a year ago which will help this young team.  Yuma is well coached and should still be a threat this year.
#6 Holyoke

Made it to Regionals and went 1-1.

Holyoke qualified for the regional tournament last year but didn’t get into the state tournament.  Holyoke returns plenty of talent from last year’s team and should make it to the state tournament.  Holyoke returns 4 of their top 6 hitters including their top two hitters.  Sophomore Kristin Vieselmeyer and Taeryn Trumper will lead the offensive attack.  Holyoke biggest hole will be at setter where they will need to find a replacement.
#7 Del Norte

Made the State Tournament, Went 1-2

Del Norte had a solid run last year getting to the state tournament.  Del Norte is losing talent from that team including their leading hitter.  Myka Glover, Kaeci Madrid and Kendra Parra will have to step up and lead the offensive attack.  Del Norte also must replace their setter from a year ago.  Del Norte will just reload and should qualify for the state tournament.
#8 Union Colony Prep

Made Regionals but went 0-2

Union Colony Prep had a ton of early success last year winning 12 of 13 games to start the season but later in the year they struggled and went 0-2 at regionals to miss the state tournament.  Union Colony does return plenty of talent from last year’s team including leading hitters Mayson Fago and Hayle Wood.  Union Colony also returns 5 of their top 6 hitters and their setter.  Union Colony will hope to have a complete season and qualify for the state tournament.
#9 Meeker

Made the State Tournament, went 2-2

Meeker had a great run last year going undefeated during the regular season and at regionals.  Meeker went 2-2 in the state tournament falling to Yuma in the Final 4.  A lot of talent is gone from Meeker team, but they do have some returning to make a run.  Meeker will return #2 hitter Julia Dinwiddie and #4 hitter Caleigh Morlan.  Meeker will have holes to fill at libero and setter but if Meeker comes together I see another state tournament berth for them.
#10 Dawson School

Made Regionals, went 1-1

Dawson School qualified for the regional tournament and came up just short from state losing to Vail Mountain 3-2 to lose the regional.  Dawson School will look to use this as momentum this year.  Dawson School returns 5 of their top 6 hitters including top hitter Kiera Porrey.  Dawson School also returns their setter from last year Angelina Sala.
#11 Heritage Christian

Made Regionals, went 1-1

Heritage Christian played well in their first season in Class 2A.  Heritage Christian lost to Wiggins 3-0 in the Regional finals but they will look to build on that this year.  Heritage Christian will be returning 3 of their top 6 hitters including their top 2 hitters Savannah Brown and Kate Moulton.  Heritage Christian will also return their top setter Kate Moulton but look for another setter to step up this year as well.
#12 Akron

Made Regionals, went 1-1

Akron qualified for the regional tournament but lost to Rye in the Regional Finals 3-0.  Akron will lose some pieces from their team but will return plenty of talent.  Akron returns 5 of their top 6 hitters and look for junior Sara Wylie and Sophomore Quincy Basler to lead the way.  Akron also returns their setter from a year ago Mariah DeMers.
#13 Peyton

Made Regionals, went 0-1

Peyton qualified for the Regional tournament but went 0-1 with a loss to Yuma.  Peyton gained valuable experience playing the state champions and should be able to use it this year.  Peyton will lose their top hitter but return 5 of their 6 top hitters.  Riley Stearns and Sydney Campbell will have to step up and lead the offense this year.  Peyton also returns their setter from last year Josie Lee and Peyton should be a threat for the state tournament this year.
#14 Vail Mountain

Made the State Tournament, went 1-2

Vail Mountain qualified for the state tournament a year ago going 1-2.  Vail Mountain is losing some talent from their state tournament team but have a few pieces coming back.  Vail Mountain returns their #3 hitter Lexi Linafelter and #4 hitter Payton Connolly.  Vail Mountain will have to find a new setter but this team should still compete.
#15 Holly

Made the State Tournament, went 1-2

Holly first year in Class 2A was a success with them getting to state tournament and going 1-2.  Holly will lose a very good senior class but do have some talent returning.  Holly will look to their #2 hitter Saedee Davis and #4 hitter Jazmine Pizarro to lead the offensive attack.  Look for Athena Crum to step up at the setter position as well this year for Holly.
#16 Byers

Made the State Tournament, went 0-2

Byers made it to the state tournament last year and went 0-2.  It was very valuable experience for this team.  Byers will be much younger this year with 3 of their top 6 hitters coming back.  #2 hitter sophomore Symantha Linnebur will have to lead the offensive attack and look for senior Devon Harris to also step in.  Byers must also find a new setter.  I think Byers may take a small step back this year but I expect them to make a run for a state tournament berth.
Other Teams to Watch Rye, Simla, Dolores, Plateau Valley, Swink, Colorado Springs School, Hoehne, Paonia, Hayden, Fountain Valley, Mancos, Sargent, Rangely, Dayspring Christian, John Mall, Sedgwick County
