8-Man League Breakdown & Predictions (Arkansas, Central, & Mountain)

I have decided to only do 3 leagues at a time instead of the full 6 leagues.  I am going to breakdown the league then at the end predict my champion and playoff contenders.  I know these articles are a bit lengthy, but I try and mention every team.

Arkansas Valley League

The Arkansas Valley League saw three teams qualify for the playoffs.  3 teams were over .500 with one team just 1 game under .500.  Wiley went 0-9 last year and 0-6 in league.  Wiley last playoff season was in 2015 when they went 5-5.  Wiley has been trying to rebuild to that success and losing a senior class of 8 will hurt a bit this year.  Wiley will be looking for possibly 3 starters on the offensive line and a new QB.  Cade Zordel will be looking to fill the QB position or stay at RB he was the leading rusher as well.  Defensively Wiley will return 4 of their 11 top tacklers but just 1 of their top 5.  Skylar Phillips and Tucker Hobden will look to lead this defense this year.  It will be an interesting year for Wiley this year with just 3 upcoming Seniors.  I think Wiley will have more success next year in 2020.  Las Animas went 2-7 last year and 1-5 in league.  The last winning season for Las Animas was 2005 but it looks like in 2008 Las Animas qualified for the playoffs.  Las Animas had 4 seniors graduate last year from a roster of 13 so it is a big hit to this team.  Possibly 3 starters on the offensive line graduated.  Las Animas will return their QB Markus Vigil but need starters at RB and 3 linemen.  Las Animas will return 7 of their top 11 tacklers but lose their top 2 tacklers.  Cutter Nichols and James Zook will return as leaders of Las Animas defense.  It will be interesting to keep an eye on Las Animas to see if they keep improving.  McClave went 3-6 last year and I thought going into the year that McClave had a chance to be a playoff team and challenge for a league crown.  McClave will now be looking to rebuild a bit with 8 seniors graduating.  McClave did not post stats from last year.  We will have to keep an eye out for how McClave does, but they will be younger and a bit more inexperienced.  Springfield went 4-5 last year and 3-3 in league and just missed out on the playoffs.  Springfield will be losing 6 seniors from last years team with some key pieces leaving.  The offensive line is losing just 1 starter which should help this year.  Jacob Freighberger and Tyson Campbell will be the returning senior linemen.  Springfield will also return QB Luke Hutches who filled in at QB while Beau Dukes was out last year.  Hutches played well throwing just 2 INTs and that experience will be huge heading into his junior year.  At RB Springfield will return #1 rusher Hayden Lasley who nearly rushed for 1000 yards.  Both Lasley and Hutches got valuable playing time last year and should help this offense.  Defensively Springfield will return 5 of their top 11 tacklers.  Springfield will loss their top 2 tacklers, but Hayden Lasley and Tyson Campbell should be able to step up as leaders.  Springfield should be competitive this year but will depend on some younger players stepping up.  Fowler went 7-3 last year and 4-2 in league.  Fowler finished 3rd in the Ark Valley league and made the playoffs.  Fowler will be losing 6 seniors from last year’s team some in key places.  The offensive line for Fowler looks like they will be losing 2 or 3 starters on the line.  Thor Schiffer and Joseph Trujillo will be looked to anchor this offensive line.  Luke Bitter will be returning for Fowler at QB.  Bitter had a solid season at QB throwing for 493 yards and 6 TDs.  Fowler will be losing their #1 rusher but look for Jackson Bates to fill in at RB along with Damian Romero.  Defensively Fowler will be returning 7 of their 11 top tacklers including the top 3 tacklers.  Fowler though will have key leadership positions to replace with Denton and Flanscha graduating.  Fowler will be reloading this year and should be in position to compete for a league title.  Holly went 8-3 last year and 5-1 in league.  Holly reached the quarterfinals last year before falling to Merino.  Holly is losing a solid senior class with 9 seniors graduating.  This senior class takes some key players away and will be interesting to see how the rest of the team steps up.  The offensive line will be losing 2 starters on the offensive line.  Grayden Flint will be the lone senior on the offensive line but look for Bryan Sanchez, Samuel Orta, and Alon Sotelo to step up on the offensive line.  The big position lost is at QB with Kobe Davis graduating.  Sophomore Dakota Eaton will be the QB next year and he did get some playing time.  Holly also loses their top rusher, but #2 rusher Andy Ramos is back.  Another rusher is needed to step up this year.   Defensively Holly returns 5 of their 11 top tacklers including their top 3.  Holly will look to Grayden Flint, Diego Tamayo, and Andy Ramos to lead this defense.  Holly will be looking to a lot of younger kids to step up this year.  Hoehne went 11-2 and 6-0 in league to win the Ark Valley League.  Hoehne also had a good run in the playoffs to reach the state championship but came up short against Sedgwick County.  Hoehne will be looking to reach the finals again and this time win it all.  Hoehne will have a few holes to fill with 7 seniors graduating.  The offensive line should remain mostly intact with just 1 starter graduating.  Jeremiah Montoya, Shane Montoya, and Franchesco Rivera will be the 3 seniors anchoring the offensive line.  Hoehne will return QB Weston Hill who had a good season throwing for 897 yards and 10 TDs.  The #1 and #2 rushers for Hoehne are gone but look for Dario Orozco to fill the hole.  Defensively Hoehne returns 6 of their 11 top tacklers but are losing their top two tacklers.  Shane Montoya and Dario Orozco will be looked to become leaders of this defense.  Hoehne will be the early favorite to still win the Ark Valley league but their defense will need players to really step up this year.  After looking over everything my predictions for league are: 1st Hoehne, 2nd Fowler, 3rd Holly, 4th Springfield

My predictions for the Arkansas Valley League

League Champion: Hoehne

Playoff Contenders: Hoehne, Fowler, Holly, Springfield

Dark Horse: Springfield (Springfield returns a good amount of talent plus leadership at both the QB and RB.  Can they compete for a league title is the question?)

Player of the League: QB Weston Hill Hoehne

Others to watch for: QB Luke Bitter Fowler, QB Luke Hutches Springfield, QB Markus Vigil Las Animas, QB Dakota Eaton Holly, RB Hayden Lasley Springfield, RB Andy Ramos Holly, RB Jackson Bates Fowler, RB Cade Zordel Wiley, RB Dario Orozco Hoehne, LB Gabriel Proctor Fowler, DL Shane Montoya Hoehne

Central League

The Central League is one of the smaller leagues in 8-Man Football with just 5 teams fielding teams.  The Central League last year had just 1 team make the playoffs with Front Range Christian winning it.  Rocky Mountain Lutheran had a tough season last year going 0-8 and 0-4 in league.  Rocky Mountain Lutheran loses just 3 seniors from their team so they could improve this year.  Rocky Mountain Lutheran returns QB Logan Glowicki and RB Sam Hahm.  RML will have 1 lineman to replace as well so this offense should improve this year.  Defensively RML returns 8 of their 11 top tacklers.  Leadership will be key for RML with 3 of their top 4 tacklers graduating.  Look for Daniel Zemlicka and Ashton Roybal to step up and be leaders on defense.  RML will improve this year but how much is the question.  Justice went 2-6 last year and 1-3 in league.  Justice is always a tough to team to know what is coming back from year to year.  Justice is losing 12 seniors from their team and will have some rebuilding to do this year.  Justice I have a feeling will be towards the bottom of the league with a lot of experience leaving.  South Park went 3-6 last year and 2-2 league.  South Park is losing 6 seniors from last years team with some key pieces leaving.  South Park is losing just 1 starter on the offensive line.  Look for Preston Haley, John O’Donnell, and Jacob Robineau to step up as senior offensive linemen.  South Park will be hurting at QB and RB with the starters graduating.  Michael Kelly will look to step in at QB.  RB is more up in the air and will be interesting to see who fill in at that role.  South Park will return 6 of their 11 top tacklers but lose 4 of their top 5.  Michael Kelly was the leading tackler and he must continue to lead the defense.  South Park will battle once again for a top 3 spot in league.  Elbert went 6-3 last year and 4-1 in league but did not qualify for the state tournament.  Elbert is losing 7 seniors from last years team and some key pieces will have to be replaced.  On the offensive line Elbert will have to replace possibly 2 starters.  Trevor VanDerlinden and Cauy Pennington are the lone seniors coming back next year for the offensive line.  QB Nathan Tornone will be back at QB and he had a successful season throwing for 1305 yards but will need to lower the INT numbers.  A new RB must be found and look for Sebastian Rose to possibly fill that spot.  Defensively Elbert returns 7 of their 11 top tacklers but lose 3 of their top 4.  Garrett Buchanan lead the team in tacklers last year and he will have to step up as the leader this year.  Elbert will also be in the top 3 of the league again.  Front Range Christian had a successful season last year going 6-3 and 5-0 in league.  This was their first year playing 8-man and were able to find success.  They did make the playoffs but were eliminated in the first round.  Last year Front Range Christian had just 20 kids out but this year they have nearly 40 kids out.  Front Range Christian last year lost just 2 seniors they were WR/DB and TE/DL.  This team is returning all their offensive linemen and competition will be key for this group to get better.  Front Range Christian was dominated by a lot of non-league teams so they must improve this year.  QB Luke Hiltman is back for his junior year and he had a great year throwing for 2079 yards and 28 TDs.  He will be looked upon again to have a big year.  At RB Josh Lang also returns and must continue to improve as well.  Defensively Front Range Christian returns 9 of their 11 top tacklers but will lose 2 of their top 3 tacklers.  Josh Lang and Christian Chisholm are going to be the leaders of the defense this year and must step up against tougher competition.  I really don’t see anyone challenging Front Range Christian in league, but can this team improve enough to compete outside the league is the main question.  After looking over everything my predictions for league are: 1st Front Range Christian, 2nd Elbert, 3rd South Park, 4th Rocky Mountain Lutheran, 5th Justice

My predictions for the Central League

League Champion: Front Range Christian

Playoff Contenders: Front Range Christian, Elbert

Dark Horse: Elbert (They are returning some talent, and can they challenge Front Range Christian for the league crown)

Player of the League: QB Luke Hiltman Front Range Christian

Others to watch for: QB Nathan Tornone Elbert, QB Logan Glowicki Rocky Mountain Lutheran, QB Angel Garcia Justice, RB Sam Hahm Rocky Mountain Lutheran, RB/FS Josh Lang, RB/WR Michael Kelly South Park, WR/LB Christian Chisholm, Garrett Buchanan Elbert,

Mountain League

The Mountain League was a very competitive league last year and once again should be very competitive with I think 4 teams having a shot at the playoffs.  Sangre De Cristo went 0-9 and 0-6 in league last year.  Sangre De Cristo loses 7 seniors from last years team and possibly will have just 10 kids out.  Sangre De Cristo will continue to try and rebuild this program.  Zeb Stephens will be back at QB and Kevin Enriquez and Mario Enriquez will be back at RB/WR.  The offensive line is the biggest weakness on the offensive side of the ball.  Defensively Sangre De Cristo will have some key holes to fill as well.  Del Norte went 2-7 and 1-5 in league.  Del Norte loses just 6 seniors to graduation but will return their entire offensive line.  The offensive line must improve this year to give this offense a chance.  QB will be a position that must be filled with starter Keegan Median graduating.  No other players took snaps at QB so we will see what happens at this position.  The RB position does have some talent back with Preston Terrell, Marcus Romero, and Diego Heredia all coming back.  Defensively Del Norte will return 7 of their top 11 tacklers.  Anthony Balderas and Preston Terrell will be back to lead this defense, but the unit as a whole must improve if they plan to jump up in the standings.  We will see how much Del Norte improved in the offseason to see if they can really compete with the top of the league.  Norwood went 5-4 last year and 3-3 in league and missed the playoffs.  This was the first time Norwood has missed the playoffs since 2007 when they went 2-5.  Norwood will be looking to quickly right the ship but with 7 seniors graduating and key leaders that will be tough.  Norwood is losing possibly 2 or 3 starters on the offensive line.  Adam Dabrowski and Jacob Gordon will be the senior lineman next year and will have to step up. QB Tyler Wytulka returns and he will have to find some help on offense this year with RB Will Gabriel graduating.  The RB position could be filled by Logan Weimer.  Defensively Norwood return 7 of their 11 top tacklers but loses 3 of their top 4 tacklers, two of which had over 90 tackles.  Norwood will look to Tyler Wytulka and Broc Joseph to fill holes on defense.  I think Norwood will be tough, but I think Norwood is really a year out from really competing for a top spot in league again.  Dove Creek went 5-4 last year and 3-3 in league and really took big steps to competing for a playoff spot and league crown.  Dove Creek is losing just 2 seniors from last years team both were offensive linemen so those holes will have to be filled.  Kyle Carroll, Caden Baker, and Hayden Gray should all help fill the holes on the offensive line.  The main part of the offense will be coming back after a stellar freshmen year and that is QB Chrobin Cressler.  Cressler threw for 582 yards and rushed for another 1243 yards.  RB’s Gauge Thompson and Gage Bailey also return to help this offense even more.  Defensively Dove Creek returns 9 of their 11 top tacklers.  Dove Creek will lose their #2 tacker but return leading tackler Wyatt Kennedy and #3 Tackler Walker Cressler.  Dove Creek is one of the 4 teams I think push for a playoff spot and a league crown.  Sanford went 6-3 and 3-3 in league and took key steps to challenge for a playoff spot and league crown.  Sanford lose 6 seniors from last years team with some key leadership positions gone.  The offensive line will lose possibly 1 starter, but they will return the core.  Jake Smith and Omar Guerrero will look to anchor this offensive line, but a younger kid will have to step up this year.  At QB they lose their starter, but Clay Canty did take reps at QB and he possibly take over at that position.    The RB position will go to Kelton Gartrell and Thomas Faucette.  Defensively Sanford returns 7 of their 11 top tacklers but lose 2 of their top 4 tacklers.  Thomas Faucette and Kelton Gartrell return to help this defense.  Sanford is team 2 of 4 I think challenges for the league crown and a playoff spot.  Sargent went 7-3 last year and 5-1 in league and qualified for the playoffs.  Sargent was hit somewhat hard by graduation losing 7 seniors and plenty of leadership.  Sargent will only be replacing 1 or 2 starters on the offensive line.  Look for Clay Kimberling, Chance Padilla, and Marcus Lopez to really step up this year and lead this offensive line.  At QB Sargent will have to find a replacement and Kage Pepper will be that guy.  Pepper has learned from both Davis and Torrez and should be ready to taker over at QB.  The RB position must also be filled.  Braxton Asbell (who could also play line) and Blaine Behil will look to take over at the RB position.  Defensively Sargent will return 5 of their 11 top tacklers including 3 of their top 5.  Braxton Asbell and Kage Pepper must step up as leaders on the defensive side of the ball.  This upcoming Junior class will really have to step up this year.  Sargent is always well coached and have just reloaded and I think reload once again and are team 3 of 4 to challenge for a league crown/playoff spot.  Mancos played well last year going 9-1 and 7-0 in league.  Mancos ran the table during the regular season and now are looking to repeat as league champions.  As mentioned, it won’t be handed to them as 3 other teams are looking to topple them.  Mancos lose just 4 seniors from last years team.  The offensive line was hit the hardest with possibly 2 or 3 starters graduating.  David Messier, Colt Fury, and Andrew Ruatti will be called upon to replace starters on the offensive line.  The offensive line is the biggest question mark for this team.  At QB Breccen Morelli returns.  Morelli threw for 538 yards and 9 TDs and ran for another 648 yards.  A new RB must be found but Anthony Medina and Chase Moore should be able to fill that void.  Christian Cova also returns at WR to give Morelli his top target.  Defensively Mancos returns 8 of their 11 top tacklers and lose just their #2 and #5 tacklers inside the top 8.  Colt Fury and Christian Cova return to lead this defense.  Mancos returns a lot of talent especially on defense.  Mancos is the final team I think can win the league and push for a playoff spot.  Mancos biggest concern is their offensive line but with the players mentioned above I think they will be solid. After looking over everything my predictions for league are: 1st Mancos, 2nd Sanford, 3rd Sargent, 4th Dove Creek, 5th Norwood

My predictions for the Mountain League

League Champion: Mancos

Playoff Contenders: Mancos, Sanford, Sargent, Dove Creek

Dark Horse: Sargent (Sargent lost a good senior class, but this upcoming Junior class has some talent.  Can they put everything together this year and win the league?)

Player of the League: QB Breccen Morelli Mancos

Others to watch for: QB Kage Pepper Sargent, QB Chorbin Cressler Dove Creek, QB/RB Clay Canty Sanford, QB Tyler Wytulka Norwood, RB/LB Kelton Gartrell Sanford, RB Anthony Medina Mancos, RB Gage Bailey Dove Creek, RB/LB Preston Terrell Del Norte, RB/LB Braxton Asbell Sargent, RB/LB Thomas Faucette, LB Colt Fury Mancos,
