6-Man Football Week 9 League Breakdown
The Final week of the regular season and due to that I am moving the 6-man breakdown from Friday to Wednesday. I have broken the RPI down from #9 down to at least #20 to see what teams have a shot at the playoffs or what it will take for them to get into the playoffs. Let me tell you one thing it is going to come down to the smallest of details separating a few teams. I will quickly breakdown each league and at the end dive into the scenarios for teams to make the playoffs. I will do my regular season awards next week for 6-Man!
Deer Trail is your Central League Champion. They are probably the quietest 5-1 team in 6-man. Deer Trail lone loss of the season is to Branson/Kim, but Deer Trail does lack the quality win to really put them on the map. Genoa-Hugo is sitting in second with Hanover sitting in third. In the Central league there are a few games with Deer Trail vs Cheyenne Wells, Hanover vs Primero, and Genoa-Hugo vs Idalia. The three games I listed are the big ones concerning the playoffs. Deer Trail, Hanover, and Genoa-Hugo are the three teams still in the hunt for the playoffs.
Playoff Contenders: Deer Trail, Genoa-Hugo, Hanover
RPI: Deer Trail (11), Hanover (25), Genoa-Hugo (24), Edison (26), Colorado D&B (30)
East Central League
Flagler/Hi Plains and Stratton/Liberty face off this week with the winner snagging the East Central League title. Both teams are locks for the playoffs, but seeding is still on the line plus the league title. Flagler/Hi Plains has played the weaker schedule with their best win coming to Briggsdale and Walsh. This will be the toughest test for Flagler/Hi Plains. Defensively they will have to be able to stop the run to have any success. Offensively look for QB Zayd Banks and RB Chris Hile to have big games. This will be a true test of how good Flagler/Hi Plains is. Stratton/Liberty has played a much tougher schedule with a loss to Kit Carson but quality wins over Prairie and Granada. Since their opening season loss to Kit Carson they have dominated and look to snag a league title. Stratton/Liberty defensively will face a balanced attack and three different players who could hurt them on the ground. Offensively look for QB Zeke Craig, RB Jaret Lichty, and Trevor Frank to have big games for Stratton/Liberty. Flagler/Hi Plains with the win could see them improve to a Top 5 seed. Stratton/Liberty with a win could move into the #2 or #3 spot. One other game to quickly mention is Arickaree/Woodlin vs Otis. This game has huge implications for the final spot in the playoffs. It is a must win game for both teams the winner has a shot still to get into the playoffs the loser will not.
Playoff Contenders: Stratton/Liberty, Flagler/Hi Plains, Arickaree/Woodlin, Otis, Idalia
RPI: Stratton/Liberty (4), Flagler/Hi Plains (8), Arickaree/Woodlin (16), Otis (20), Idalia (22)
Fleming is your North League Champion and grab the automatic berth. Fleming is now looking for a top 5 seed. Fleming ends the year against La Veta, and this game won’t do much for their RPI. I am not to sure that Fleming can really move into a top 3 seed unless there is an upset or two to move them into that spot. Finishing in second place in the North League is Prairie. Prairie is also still alive for a top 5 seed. Prairie ends the year against Cotopaxi which will help their RPI and possibly could jump into the Top 5. Prairie is a lock for the playoffs even with a loss to Cotopaxi which would drop Prairie a few seeds, but I am guessing a home game will be coming for Prairie. Third place is still up for grabs between North Park and Briggsdale and they face each other this week. Briggsdale is coming off a tough 63-14 loss to Fleming. Briggsdale will have to quickly bounce back and hope they can pull of an upset. Briggsdale needs their defense to come around this game. Offensively look for QB Tyler Blickem and RB Malik Carlson to have big games. North Park was able to bounce back last week beating Sierra Grande 51-13. North Park is hoping to lock up a home playoff game but need a win over Briggsdale to do so. North Park will have to contain this explosive offense. Offensively North Park must be able to score points. Look for the three headed monsters of Destry Schmidt, Brock Follett, and Eli Houston to have big games. Both teams are locks for the playoffs. North Park is hoping for a home game and will have a good shot with a win. Briggsdale with a win could move into the Top 10.
Playoff Contenders: Fleming, Prairie, North Park, Briggsdale, Peetz
RPI: Fleming (5), Prairie (6), North Park (7), Briggsdale (12), Peetz (17), Weldon Valley (27)
South Central League
Your South-Central League Champion is Branson/Kim. Branson/Kim has one game remaining next week against Mountain Valley and is big for them for seeding purposes. Manzanola won last week to keep their playoff hopes alive but it all comes down to their final game of the season. If Manzanola beats Kiowa, they are near locks for the playoffs. A loss for Manzanola will eliminate them for the playoff hunt. La Veta and Primero are eliminated from the playoff hunt unless Primero pulls two straight upsets but even then, will need some help.
Playoff Contenders: Branson/Kim and Manzanola
RPI: Branson/Kim (3), Manzanola (21), Primero (26), La Veta (28)
South East League
Kit Carson is your South East League Champion. They locked up the berth with the win over Granada 56-40. This was a good matchup between these two teams. Kit Carson does not have another game this year, but they have the #1 overall seed locked up. Cheyenne Wells is sitting in second and have locked up second. Cheyenne Wells has a non-league game against Deer Trail, and this is another big game concerning RPI. Deer Trail is a lock for the playoffs but a win over Cheyenne Wells would give them a shot for a top 10 seed. Cheyenne Wells sits at #3 in the RPI and have a good shot at the #2 or #3 seed with a win. Cheyenne Wells with a loss probably still stays in the Top 8. Both teams are locked in the playoffs. The other two games in the South East League are massive games. Eads vs Cheraw and Granada vs Walsh. Both games will have huge implications on the playoffs. We will go over these implications much more in depth at the end.
Playoff Contenders: Kit Carson, Cheyenne Wells, Granada, Walsh, Cheraw, Eads
RPI: Kit Carson (1), Cheyenne Wells (3), Granada (9), Eads (10), Walsh (14), Cheraw (19)
South West league
The Southwest League title belongs to Cotopaxi. Cotopaxi locked up the league title with a 46-14 win over Sierra Grande. Cotopaxi finishes the season with a game against Prairie which is a big game for seeding. Mountain Valley sits in second place in league. Mountain Valley picked up an important win over Manzanola. Mountain Valley plays Branson/Kim and this game will be big for RPI and qualifying purposes. Branson/Kim is the #2 RPI seed and a win should keep them in the Top 5. Branson/Kim has had a great season. Mountain Valley is sitting at #18 in the RPI and a win gets them in probably around the 13 or 14 seed, but a loss makes things much more interesting. Mountain Valley with a loss still has a shot at the playoffs but will probably need some help. Sierra Grande and Cripple Creek have been eliminated from the playoff hunt.
Playoff Contenders: Cotopaxi, Mountain Valley
RPI: Cotopaxi (13), Mountain Valley (18), Sierra Grande (23), Cripple Creek (30)
Playoff Breakdown and RPI Numbers
I will start with the top 5 seeds. Kit Carson has locked up the #1 seed. Stratton/Liberty and Cheyenne Wells with wins this week should move into the #2 and #3 spots and my guess is Stratton/Liberty #2 and Cheyenne Wells #3. Kim/Branson, Fleming, and Prairie will all be the #4, #5, and #6 seeds if all win. North Park, Granada, and Flagler/Hi Plains all should be top 10 seeds. North Park wins, they should stay at #7 or #8. A loss will drop North Park into the #10 range. Flagler/Hi Plains with a win over Stratton/Liberty could jump into the #7 possibly the #6 spot. A loss for Flagler/Hi Plains moves them into the #8 or #9 spot depending on Granada. If Granada wins, they lock up the #8 spot, but a loss could move them into the #10 spot. Deer Trail has the automatic berth and depending on how Briggsdale does will determine their seed. I am slotting Deer Trail into the #11 spot. Briggsdale with a win could jump into the #10 and a loss puts them at the #12 seed. Cotopaxi is another automatic berth and have them locked into the #13 seed. I don’t seem them moving up without the upset of Prairie and if they do that, they could jump up to #10.
From here on things get much more difficult there are 7 teams fighting for just 3 spots. Walsh, Arickaree/Woodlin, Peetz, Mountain Valley, Cheraw, Otis, and Manzanola still have hopes alive for a playoff spot. Genoa-Hugo, Hanover, and Idalia are just a bit too far back even with wins to get into the playoffs. The only team of the 10 that don’t play this week is Peetz they are hoping a waiting for a certain scenario if they want to get in. I will go team by team.
Walsh is a near lock for the playoffs even with a loss to Granada. Walsh seeds depends on a few different scenarios but if Walsh upset Granada, they are in. The only way I don’t see Walsh getting in is if Mountain Valley wins, Cheraw wins, and Arickaree/Woodlin win then we go to the finest of decimals to separate Walsh and Arickaree/Woodlin for the #16 spot.
Mountain Valley with a win over Branson/Kim get into the playoffs and possibly the #14 seed. Now if Mountain Valley losses things are not over yet but they will need some help. Mountain Valley with a loss would need a few things to go their way. Manzanola would need to loss to Kiowa, Cheraw needs to loss to Eads, and Otis needs to loss to Arickaree/Woodlin. That would give Mountain Valley a shot at the #16 spot but would be between them and Cheraw and would come down to OOWP to see who gets in.
Arickaree/Woodlin has only one way of getting into the playoffs and that is beat Otis. If Arickaree/Woodlin beats Otis they get in unless both Mountain Valley and Cheraw win then things get interesting for the final spot between them and Walsh. But, if Arickaree/Woodlin wins and Mountain Valley losses and Cheraw losses then they are probably the #15 seed.
Peetz was mentioned about one scenario to get into the playoffs. They don’t play another game. If Otis wins, they have a shot at the playoffs. If Peetz gets Otis to win then and Manzanola to loss they are sitting at the #15 spot. The #16 spot would be up for grabs between a few teams.
Cheraw with a win over Eads gets into the playoffs. That is the simple way for them to get in. If Cheraw losses, then things get much more interesting, but they still have a shot. Cheraw with a loss needs Mountain Valley to lose, Manzanola to lose, and Otis to lose. That would give Cheraw a shot at the #16 spot but would be between them and Mountain Valley and would come down to OOWP to see who gets in.
Otis is in a bit more of a tough spot. First Otis must beat Arickaree/Woodlin to have any shot at the playoffs. Otis then would need Cheraw, Mountain Valley, and Manzanola to all lose. This would give Peetz the #15 spot. Otis would then be fighting with Cheraw, and Mountain Valley for the #16 spot. OOWP will be critical.
Manzanola has only one way into the playoffs. They must beat Kiowa to have any shot at the playoffs. Manzanola would also need Mountain Valley and/or Cheraw to loss. They would only need 1 of them to loss not both.
Final 6 Seeds Projections
Just to sum it all up. I am going to just give a prediction/projection for the final 6 seeds.
So, I am going with Eads beating Cheraw, Branson/Kim beating Mountain Valley, Briggsdale losing to North Park, Kiowa beating Manzanola, and Otis beating Arickaree/Woodlin. With these results Peetz would have around a .4800 to .4815 which would be #15. The #16 spot with current OOWP numbers would be Cheraw .4785, Otis .4773, and Mountain Valley .4758. Any changes in the OOWP will changes these numbers.
#11 Deer Trail
#16 Mountain Valley, Cheraw, or Otis (To close to separate will all come down to OOWP)
