Girls Basketball District Predictions Class 1A

Girls Basketball District Predictions Class 1A

This is an update to my original Predictions.  I will talk about my original predictions as well and compare some of the changes.

In Class 1A you must finish in the Top 3 or 2 of District to advance to regionals (District 1 & 6 only qualify two to regionals).  I will pick essentially which teams are making it to regionals.  Regionals works as follows Region 1 is District 1 & 6, Region 2 is District 4, 5, & 8, Region 3 is District 2, 3, 7.

District 1 (Only qualifies 2 teams)

  1. Dove Creek
  2. De Beque

District 1 gets only two teams into regionals.  My original predictions had Dove Creek and De Beque as the league qualifiers.  I think three teams will be in the running for these two spots but I am not making any changes to my predictions.  Dove Creek is my pick to win District 1.  Dove Creek is currently 6-3.  Dove Creek has quality losses to Sangre De Cristo and Ignacio, but Dove Creek is missing a quality win.  Dove Creek has a big-league game against Nucla on 1/17.  De Beque is my pick to finish second.  De Beque is 5-3 on the season and has quality losses to Hotchkiss and Plateau Valley.  De Beque is missing a quality win as well but are off to a solid start with a league win over Nucla.  De Beque has tough games against Soroco and North park on 1/17 & 1/18.  North Park is also in the mix for a top 3 spot.  North Park is 3-4 on the season but have quality losses to Lone Star, Hayden, and Meeker.  North Park does have a quality win over West Grand.  North Park has a lot of tradition and I think could push for a top 2 spot.

District 2

  1. Kit Carson
  2. McClave
  3. Eads

District 2 gets 3 teams into regionals.  In my original predictions I went with Kit Carson, McClave, and Eads.  This time around I am sticking to my original predictions.  I have Kit Carson winning District 2.  Kit Carson is 4-3 on the season but seem to be figuring things out.  Kit Carson has a lot of inexperience players and a young team.  Kit Carson has quality losses to Limon, Wiley, and Springfield.  Kit Carson quality wins are Wiley, McClave, and Eads.  Kit Carson is a team that will be more and more dangerous by the end of the year.  McClave is my pick for second place.  McClave is 6-2 on the season with quality losses to Stanton County KS and Kit Carson.  McClave does have a quality win over Eads.  McClave has tough games against Cheraw and Kim/Branson on 1/17 & 1/18.  Eads is my pick for third place.  Eads is currently 2-7 on the season but 6 of the 7 losses are quality losses.  Eads will be looking to break a 3 game losing streak against Idalia on 1/17.  Cheraw is another school who could be in the mix as well.

District 3

  1. South Baca
  2. Springfield
  3. Wiley

District 3 qualifies 3 teams into the regional tournament.  District 3 has 4 teams that I think could compete for the top spot.  My original predictions had South Baca, Wiley, and Springfield as the top 3 teams.  This time around I am keeping the 3 teams but changing the order.  South Baca is my pick to win the District.  South Baca is 6-1 on the season with their lone loss to Hugoton KS.  South Baca does have a quality win over Cheraw and Cotopaxi.  South Baca has a big-league matchup with Wiley on 1/18 and will go along way to figuring out the order in the league.  Springfield is my pick to finish second.  Springfield lone loss is to Hugoton KS.  Springfield has quality wins over Holly (2x) and Kit Carson.  Springfield has their first big league test on 1/17 against Kim/Branson.  My pick to finish third is Wiley.  Wiley is 5-2 on the season and have losses to Holly and Kit Carson.  Wiley does have a quality win over Kit Carson.  Wiley has back to back tough games against Holly and South Baca.  Wiley has a tough schedule coming up and we will learn about this team in the coming weeks.  Kim/Branson is another team who will be in the mix for a regional spot.  Kim/Branson has big games against Springfield and McClave on 1/17 & 1/18.

District 4

  1. Briggsdale
  2. Fleming
  3. Merino

District 4 qualifies 3 teams into the regional tournament.  District 4 is another league that has 4 very solid teams competing for just 3 spots.  In my original predictions I had Briggsdale, Fleming, and Merino as the 3 qualifiers.  I am not making any changes this week.  Briggsdale is my pick to win District 4.  Briggsdale is off to a great start at 7-0.  Briggsdale has quality wins over Shining Mountain, Idalia, Prairie, and Fleming.  Briggsdale will face Prairie and Fleming again.  Briggsdale faces Prairie on 1/24 and Fleming on 2/1.  Fleming is my pick to finish in second.  Fleming is a team that will continue to improve as the season goes on.  Fleming lone loss is to Briggsdale and Fleming has quality wins over Haxtun, Kiowa, and Sedgwick County.  Fleming has a tough game against Stratton/Liberty on 1/17 and face Prairie on 1/25.  Merino holds onto the #3 spot.  Merino is 6-1 on the season with their lone loss to 2A Simla.  Merino is missing a quality win so for but will have that shot against Prairie on 1/17.  Merino has some tough games to close out January.  Prairie is another team I think could push for a top 3 finish but will need to find a way to upset one of the top 3 teams.

District 5

  1. Lone Star
  2. Haxtun
  3. Idalia

District 5 qualifies 3 teams to regionals.  District 5 right now seems to have 5 teams that are competing for 3 spots.  In my original predictions I went with Lone Star, Haxtun, and Idalia.  I don’t have any changes this week.  Lone Star is off to a 5-0 start with quality wins over Genoa-Hugo, North Park and Idalia.  Lone Star has a tough schedule upcoming with games against Akron, Bethune, and Shining Mountain.  Lone Star will be looking to prove they deserve to be a team to mess with.  Haxtun holds onto the #2 spot.  Haxtun is 3-6 on the season but have played a tough schedule to open the year.  All 6 losses are to quality opponents but Haxtun is missing that quality win.  Haxtun end January against Holyoke, Caliche, Chase County NE, and Wray.  Haxtun plays a few more 1A teams in February and we will see how they stack against those teams.  Idalia is my pick for third place.  Idalia is 4-4 on the year.  Idalia has 4 quality losses and a quality win over De Beque.  Idalia is a team that will improve with a lot of inexperience.  Idalia has back to back big games against Eads on 1/17 and Genoa-Hugo on 1/21.  Bethune and Stratton/Liberty are two teams I think could challenge for a top 3 spot as well.

District 6 (Only 2 teams make it to Regionals)

  1. Sangre De Cristo
  2. Cotopaxi

District 6 gets just two teams into regionals this year.  In my original predictions I went with Sangre De Cristo and Cotopaxi.  I am not making any changes this week.  Sangre De Cristo is 5-2 on the year with quality losses to top 5 2A teams Rocky Ford and Del Norte.  Sangre De Cristo has quality wins over Custer County, Center, Sargent, and Dove Creek.  Sangre De Cristo faces off against Cotopaxi and could be for the #1 seed on 1/24.  Sangre De Cristo will be looking to bounce back from tough losses.  Cotopaxi is 7-2 on the season with quality losses to Rye and South Baca.  Cotopaxi has a quality wins over Center and Moffat.  Cotopaxi will look to challenge Sangre De Cristo this year.  Cotopaxi plays Aguilar and South Park before facing Sangre De Cristo on 1/24.  Moffat, Antonito, and La Veta all will look to push these teams for a spot in the finals.

District 7

  1. Genoa-Hugo
  2. Elbert
  3. Deer Trail

District 7 gets three teams into regionals.  District 7 looks like it will be a great race for 3 spots.  In my original predictions I went with Genoa-Hugo, Elbert, and Deer Trail. I am not making any changes this week.  Genoa-Hugo is 4-3 on the season with losses to Lone Star, Limon, and Peyton.  All 3 are quality losses but Genoa-Hugo is missing that quality win early in the season.  Genoa-Hugo faces Byers and Arickaree/Woodlin this weekend.  My pick for second place is Elbert.  Elbert is 6-1 on the season and their lone loss is to Peyton.  Elbert has quality wins over Calhan and Byers.  Elbert faces ECA on 1/17 which will be a big-league match.  Deer Trail holds onto the #3 spot.  Deer trail did lose to Edison by 3 on 1/7 but I think they still have a good shot at finishing in the #3 spot.  Deer Trail will have to bounce back quickly they face Shining Mountain on 1/17.

District 8

  1. Shining Mountain
  2. Flatirons Academy
  3. Belleview Christian

District 8 qualifies 3 team to regionals.  District 8 looks to have 5 teams battling for 3 spots.  My original picks for District 8 were Shining Mountain, Flatirons Academy, and Front Range Baptist.  I am making a few changes this week.  I am going with Shining Mountain to win District 8.  Shining Mountain is 7-2 on the season with quality lose to Briggsdale.  Shining Mountain did pick up a big win over Front Range Christian, Dawson School, and Union Colony Prep.  Shining Mountain has some big games to end January against Deer Trail, Lone Star, and Belleview Christian.  My pick to finish second is Flatirons Academy.  Flatirons Academy is 6-5 on the season.  Flatirons Academy picked up a big league win over Front Range Baptist to start January.  Flatirons Academy faces Belleview Christian on 1/28 and will go along way to determine the league order.  Belleview Christian is my pick to finish 3rd.  Belleview Christian is 8-2 on the season and have won 7 straight games.  Belleview Christian faces Shining Mountain and Flatirons Academy to end January and will see if they can challenge the top 2 teams.
