Girls Basketball District Breakdown & Predictions Class 1A
Final week of the regular season and teams are gearing up for the District tournaments. For Class 1A you must finish Top 3 (Top 2) to qualify for the Regional Tournament so putting yourself in the best position in the District tournament is key. We look at each District Race and give are prediction on the District. We will be using these District Predictions on my Playoff Projections.
District 1 (Only qualifies 2 teams)
- Dove Creek
- De Beque
District 1 gets only two teams into regionals. Two teams have emerged as the front runners for these spots. Dove Creek and De Beque. You will have to watch out for North Park and Nucla as well. Looking at the District tournament De Beque is 1 ahead of Dove Creek in the RPI. De Beque ends the year with a tough game against Rangely and should help their RPI regardless and Dove Creek plays Ouray and Nucla to end the year. De Beque may stay as the #1 seed with Dove Creek as the #2. I am picking Dove Creek to win the District 1 tournament with De Beque finishing second.
- Kit Carson
District 2 gets 3 teams into regionals. Kit Carson has locked up the #1 seed. Kit Carson does end the year against McClave and Simla both big games and Kit Carson will be looking to bounce back from a tough loss to Genoa-Hugo. The #2 thru #4 seed are still up for grabs. McClave, Cheraw, and Eads all have two losses. McClave ends the year against Kit Carson, Cheraw ends the year against Granada, and Eads ends the year against Cheyenne Wells. Looking at the final schedule I am going with Cheraw as the #2 seed, Eads as the #3, and McClave as the #4 seed. I am picking Kit Carson to win District 2 with Eads finishing second and McClave in third. Seeding will be huge on who finishes second.
- South Baca
District 3 qualifies 3 teams into regionals. District 3 has 4 tough teams fighting for 3 spots. Two teams are the favorites to win District 3 Springfield and South Baca. Wiley and Kim/Branson look to be fighting for the #3 spot. South Baca right now is still my pick to win District 3 due to the State Tournament experience. South Baca and Springfield don’t play each other until 2/20. Wiley has locked up the #3 seed for the district tournament and Kim/Branson is the #4 seed. My pick to win the District 3 tournament is South Baca with Springfield and Wiley in second and third.
District 4 qualifies 3 teams into regionals. Fleming looks like it will go into the District tournament as the #1 seed with RPI breaking the head to head with Briggsdale. Briggsdale will be the #2 seed but after the first two seeds things get much more interesting. With RPI seeding the two teams not in the league that would put Longmont Christian as the #3 seed, Merino as the #4 seed, and Prairie as the #5 seed. My pick to win the District 4 tournament would be Briggsdale with Fleming finishing second and Merino finishing third.
- Lone Star
District 5 qualifies 3 teams to regionals. District 5 seeds their tournament with RPI only. Using today’s RPI (2/19) the seeds would be: Lone Star, Idalia, Haxtun, Stratton/Liberty, Flagler/Hi Plains, Arickaree/Woodlin, Bethune, and Otis. My semifinals picks are Lone Star vs Stratton/Liberty and Idalia vs Haxtun. My pick to win the District 5 tournament is Lone Star with Haxtun and Stratton/Liberty finishing second and third.
District 6 (Only 2 teams make it to Regionals)
- Sangre De Cristo
District 6 gets just two teams into regionals. Sangre De Cristo will look to lock up the #1 seed when they face Moffat on 2/20. If Moffat can pull the upset, they force a three-way tie. Sangre De Cristo will be favored in the game. Cotopaxi has the #2 seed locked up with the head to head win over Moffat. Moffat will be the #3 seed if they lose to Sangre De Cristo. Antonito, Sierra Grande, Centennial, and La Veta are all tied with 4 losses for the #4 thru #7 seeds. I am giving Centennial the #4 seed, Sierra Grande the #5, and Antonito the #6 seed. I am picking Sangre De Cristo to win the District 6 tournament and Cotopaxi to finish second.
District 7 gets three teams into regionals. We believe the District 7 tournament is seeded by RPI. Using the current RPI (2/19) here are the seeds: Genoa-Hugo, Elbert, Kiowa, Evangelical Christian, Edison, Deer Trail, Pikes Peak Christian, Hanover, Colorado D&B, and Cripple Creek. My semifinals matchups would be Genoa-Hugo vs ECA and Elbert vs Kiowa. I am picking Genoa-Hugo to win the District 7 tournament with Elbert finishing second and Kiowa in third.
- Flatirons Academy
- Shining Mountain
- Mile High Academy
District 8 qualifies 3 team to regionals. Flatirons Academy has locked up the #1 seed and Shining Mountain has locked up the #2 seed. Mile High Academy and Belleview Christian has the #3 and #4 seeds locked up as well. If Flatirons Academy and Shining Mountain meet in the District finals this will be a great matchup. My pick to win the District 8 tournament is Flatirons Academy with Shining Mountain and Mile High Academy in second and third.
