MileHigh Prep Report Preseason Class 2A Boys Basketball Rankings
Class 2A Boys should be very competitive this season with some top teams coming back and some teams looking to take the next step. Lots of talent returning and looking forward to the 2021 season. Remember we do have changes for the postseason with only 24 teams getting into the postseason instead of 32 teams.
Class 1A
Rank | Team | Notes |
#1 | Limon Made the State Tournament, Reached the Semifinals | Limon is the early favorite to win the Class 2A State Title. Limon returns 4 of their top 5 scorers and will be looking to snag a basketball state title to go along with their football state title. Limon should be a fun team to watch this season. |
#2 | Wray Made the State Tournament, Reached the Semifinals | Wray reached the semifinals a year ago and were a blast to watch in the State tournament. Wray has a few holes to fill but the athleticism of the team and their defense will be extremely tough to stop. Defense wins championships and excited to see this team play again this season. |
#3 | Fowler Made the State Tournament, lost in Great 8 | Fowler lost in the Great 8 to Yuma and it was a great game. Fowler has a few holes to fill but return POY candidate Val Leone and should help Fowler come together. The experience in the playoff last season should help Fowler this year. |
#4 | Yuma Made the State Tournament, Reached the Semifinals | Yuma was able to reach the Semifinals a year ago and lose a pretty good senior class taking 3 of their 5 top scorers. Yuma also returns a POY candidate in Cody Robinson and should once again reach the State Tournament. Yuma is always well coached and expect them to be in the mix again this season. |
#5 | Sanford Made the State Tournament, lost in Great 8 | Sanford reached the Great 8 last season but were beat by a tough defensive team in Wray. Sanford gained valuable playoff experience and their success this season depends on guard play. Sanford is also well coached and should be fun to see how the guards develop. |
#6 | Peyton Made the State Tournament, lost in Great 8 | Peyton reached the Great 8 last season but fell to Limon. Peyton returns nearly their entire roster and are poised for another deep run this season. Playoff experience is always crucial and last season should help them go forward. |
#7 | Ignacio Made the State Tournament, lost in Great 8 | Ignacio reached the Great 8 last season but fell to Highland. Ignacio has a lot of tradition and should be expected to have a big season this year. Ignacio returns 4 of their top 5 scorers and are always well coached. Ignacio will hope for a deeper run this season. |
#8 | Denver Christian Qualified for Regionals, lost to Peyton | Denver Christian did not reach the state tournament a year ago and fell short to Peyton in the Regional finals. Denver Christian returns the core of their team and will be looking for a much deeper run. Denver Christian biggest concern is depth, but they are a top team with the talent coming back. |
#9 | Holly Qualified for Regionals, lost to Highland | Holly nearly pulled off the biggest upset in Regionals falling by 2 to Highland. Holly returns the core of last years team and are hoping for a deep run. Holly will have some key senior leadership to replace but this team is a real threat this season. |
#10 | Mancos Qualified for Regionals, lost to Ignacio | Mancos qualified for Regionals a year ago but lost in the Regional finals to Ignacio by 8. Mancos will hope to reach the great 8 this season and have the talent back to do so. Mancos of course has a few holes to fill but should be a team to watch for again this year. |
Other Teams to Watch | Sedgwick County, Monte Vista, Meeker, Vail Mountain, Dayspring Christian, Rye, Rangely, Cedaredge, Holyoke, Crested Butte |
