8-Man Football League Predictions & Playoff Prediction Update

Two weeks of the regular season are complete.  A few surprises in Week #2 and a few changes for my league predictions and playoff predictions. I will continue to update my league predictions weekly and my playoff predictions.  Once RPI is released I will start with Playoff Projections.

Arkansas Valley League

#1 Holly

#2 Crowley County

#3 Fowler

#4 Hoehne

#5 McClave

#6 Las Animas

#7 Wiley

#8 Springfield

7 of the 8 teams inside the Ark Valley league have kicked off their season.  Only Wiley is yet to play a game.  Holly is my pick still to win the Ark Valley League.  Holly fell to Akron last week in OT 36-30.  Holly has a bye this week and kick off league play next week against Springfield.  Crowley County is my pick to finish second place.  Crowley County moved into the win column blasting Soroco 54 to 0.  Crowley County did a good job of bouncing back and now have a bye this week.  Crowley County opens league play against Wiley next weekend.  Fowler is my pick to finish in third.  Fowler had a bye last week and face Akron this week in a good preview of how good Fowler will be.  Should be a good game between Fowler and Akron.  Fowler opens league play next week against McClave.  Hoehne fell to Sedgwick County last week to pick up their first loss of the season.  Hoehne has a bye this week to regroup and get ready for their first league game against Las Animas.  McClave opened their season last week and picked up a win over South Park 55-0.  McClave hosts Dolores Huerta this week and will be the heavy favorite.  McClave first true test will be when they open league play on 9/17 against Fowler.  Las Animas fell to 0-1 on the season losing to Swink 52-16.  Las Animas picked up a game this week against Sargent (I believe).  Good test for both Sargent and Las Animas.  Wiley opens their season this weekend against Haxtun.

Central League

#1 Front Range Christian

#2 Lyons

#3 Elbert

#4 Byers

#5 South Park

#6 Justice

The Central League will be wide open this year.  I think 4 teams can win this league currently and is making things difficult to read.  This could be a good week to test how good teams are.  Currently I have Front Range Christian as winning the league.  FRC plays Pikes Peak Christian this week and should really give us an insight on how good Front Range Christian is.  This week I moved Lyons into the #2 spot but in all honesty, I think any of the top 4 can win this league.  Lyons is 2-0 on the season beating Gilpin County 56-22.  A true test happens tonight when Lyons faces Vail Christian and should be a good test.  Elbert picked up their first loss of the season last week falling to Simla 46-14.  Elbert will look to bounce back against a young West Grand team.  This game could be considered a must win game.  Byers fell to 0-2 on the season but have played the more difficult schedule of the top 4 teams in the league.  Byers difficult schedule continues when they travel to Dayspring Christian on Saturday.  Byers could fall to 0-3 but like I said have played a tough schedule.  South Park fell to 0-2 on the season losing to McClave.  South Park hosts Soroco this Friday and both teams will look for their first win of the season.

Mountain League

#1 Sanford

#2 Mancos

#3 Dove Creek

#4 Sargent

#5 Norwood

The Mountain League has to be considered one of the tougher leagues this season.  Sanford is my pick to win the Mountain League.  Sanford moved to 2-0 on the season beating Dayspring Christian 60-36.  Sanford had a great second half in this game.  This was a great road win for Sanford, but things do not get easier this week.  Sanford hits the road again to face Simla on Friday.  This is another tough test for Sanford.  Mancos moved to 2-0 on the season but have their first true test on Saturday.  Mancos will face Merino on a neutral field in South Park.  This should be a great game and a true test for both Mancos and Merino.  Dove Creek picked up another impressive win over a Northwest League favorite beating Rangely 54 to 6.  Dove Creek has a bye this week before facing 1A Gunnison on 9/18.  Sargent picked up their first win of the season beating Springfield 24-18.  Sargent hosts Las Animas this week and should be a good test for both teams.  Norwood will look to move into the win column when they host Hayden this weekend.

Northwest League

#1 Rangely

#2 Plateau Valley

#3 Vail Christian

#4 West Grand

#5 Gilpin County

#6 Soroco

#7 Hayden

The Northwest League continues their rough start with just 2 teams inside the 7 team league picking up wins.  Rangely is still my pick to win the Northwest League.  Rangely fell to Dove Creek 54-6 in their first game of the season.  Rangely hits the road again this week to face Caliche and will be a good measuring stick for Rangely.  Plateau Valley is still my pick for second place.  Plateau Valley picked up their first win of the season beating Norwood 50-21.  Plateau Valley has a bye this week before kicking off league play against Gilpin County on 9/17.  Vail Christian kicked of their season with a 54-26 win over Caliche.  Vail Christian has a tough test this week when they travel to Lyons.  This is a good test for both teams.  West Grand is off to a 0-2 start and travel to Elbert this week.  West Grand will look to pick up their first win of the season against Elbert but will be a tough game.  Gilpin County is 0-2 to start the season and face Justice this week.  Soroco is off to a 0-1 start and face South Park this week.  Both Soroco and South Park will be looking for their first win of the season.

Plains League

#1 Sedgwick County

#2 Merino

#3 Haxtun

#4 Dayspring Christian

#5 Akron

#6 Caliche

#7 Denver Christian

The Plains League must be considered the toughest League in 8-Man with now 5 teams throwing their hat into the mix to win the league title.  League games are going to be some of the best in the state once they start league play and whoever comes out of the league for the playoffs will be battle tested.  Sedgwick County is my pick to win the Plains League.  Sedgwick County picked up their first win of 2021 beating Hoehne 46-0.  Sedgwick County got back on track and have not lost to a Colorado team in over a year.  Sedgwick County has a bye this week to prepare for a league game against rival Merino on 9/17.  Merino is my pick for second place.  Merino had a bye last week and this week have a neutral game against Merino in South Park.  As mentioned above this is a great test for two playoff teams.  Merino schedule over the next 5 weeks is brutal.  Haxtun moved to 2-0 on the season but have yet to be truly tested.  Haxtun this week travels to Fleming.  Haxtun Should be tested by 6-Man Fleming. Haxtun first 8-Man test will be Dayspring Christian on 9/24.  Dayspring Christian fell to 1-1 on the season losing to Sanford 60-36.  Dayspring Christian will look to bounce back this week when they host Byers.  Akron is the 5th team who I think can compete for a league title.  Akron picked up an impressive road upset beating Holly 36-30 in OT.  Akron schedule does not get any easier when they host Fowler this week.  Akron like Merino has a brutal 4 game schedule upcoming.  Caliche fell to 0-2 on the season losing to Vail Christian 54-26.  Caliche hosts Rangely this week as they try to pick up their first win of the season.

Southern League

#1 Swink

#2 Calhan

#3 Pikes Peak Christian

#4 Simla

#5 Dolores Huerta

#6 John Mall

#7 Custer County

The Southern League is going to be tough this year and I think the top 4 teams all have a shot at winning the Southern League title.  Swink stays as my pick to win the Southern League.  Swink moved into the win column beating Las Animas 52-16.  This was a solid bounce back game for Swink.  Swink has a bye this week before kicking off league play against Dolores Huerta on 9/17.  Calhan moved to 2-0 on the season with a 34 to 8 victory over Byers.  Calhan also has a bye this week before moving into the meat of their schedule with games against Rangely, Simla, and Swink.  Pikes Peak Christian did not play last week and will hope to get into action this week.  PPC hosts Front Range Christian, and this should be a good and good test for both teams.  Simla moved to 2-0 on the season but their first true test is this week against Sanford.  Simla will be looking to slow down one of the best offenses in 8-Man.  Dolores Huerta moved to 1-0 on the season.  Dolores Huerta face McClave this week and should give us good insight on both teams.  John Mall was supposed to play Las Animas, but I think that game has been Cancelled.  Custer County was supposed to play Sargent, but that game was cancelled as well.

Playoff Predictions

I give the 16 teams I think make the playoffs.  This is all in fun because so much can happen between August and November.  In the 8-Man ranks all league champions are guaranteed a berth.  The rest will be selected by RPI.  The League Champions I selected are:

Holly (Ark Valley)

Front Range Christian (Central)

Sanford (Mountain)

Rangely (Northwest)

Sedgwick County (Plains)

Swink (Southern)

The 16 teams are picked Via RPI.  League strength and non-league schedule will matter a ton in this part.  10 At-Large berths will be given out.  Seeding is determined by CHSAA Seeding Index.  I am picking my 16 teams based on Scheduling and how I think teams will do.

(NOT IN ORDER!)

#1 Holly (Ark Valley)

#2 Front Range Christian (Central)

#3 Sanford (Mountain)

#4 Rangely (Northwest)

#5 Sedgwick County (Plains)

#6 Swink (Southern)

At Large Teams

#7 Crowley County (Ark Valley #2)

#8 Fowler (Ark Valley #3)

#9 Mancos (Mountain #2)

#10 Dove Creek (Mountain #3)

#11 Plateau Valley (Northwest #2)

#12 Haxtun (Plains #2)

#13 Dayspring Christian (Plains #3)

#14 Merino (Plains #4)

#15 Akron (Plains #5)

#16 Calhan (Southern #2)

Pikes Peak Christian, Elbert, Hoehne, Vail Christian, Simla also in the mix for the #16 spot.  I could easily see the Northwest League only getting one team in and if that is the case then look for the Southern League to get a third team in or the Ark Valley to get a #4 team in.
