Class 1A Volleyball League Prediction Update

No league prediction article last week means this week could have a few changes.  I will go bi-weekly on these articles until we move closer to regionals.  I am working on Class 1A only leagues today.  If they are a mixed classification, I will get them with Class 2A tomorrow.

High Plains League Prediction

1. Cheraw

2. Kit Carson

3. McClave

4. Cheyenne Wells

5. Granada

6. Eads

Cheraw takes over as my pick to win the High Plains League.  Cheraw is 6-1 with their only loss to top 5 Wiley.  Cheraw and Kit Carson meet up on Friday and could determine the league title with that game.  Kit Carson slides into the #2 spot.  Kit Carson is 6-4 currently but picked up an important league win over McClave.  Kit Carson has now won 3 straight games and will look to use that momentum against Cheraw on Friday.  McClave stays in the #3 spot.  McClave is 5-1 but have not played that tough of a schedule.  McClave first true test was Kit Carson and they fell 3-0.  McClave will look to bounce back on Thursday against South Baca but their next big test will be Cheraw on Tuesday 9/21.  Cheyenne Wells and Granada both move up a spot.  Granada picked up the win over Eads and could be fighting for the #4 spot in league.  Cheyenne Wells will look to pick up the win over Granada when they meet on 9/18.

Arkansas Valley Prediction

1. Wiley

2. Kim/Branson

3. South Baca

4. Springfield

5. Walsh

Wiley is considered a top team this year and are off to a great start at 5-0.  Wiley is 3-0 in league play and have a dominate lead in the league standings.  Wiley has a big matchup this weekend against Stratton.  This is a big non-league matchup between two top 10 teams.  Kim/Branson stays in the #2 spot.  Kim/Branson is 4-2 overall and 2-1 in league play.  Kim/Branson have a big matchup on Thursday against Springfield.  Kim/Branson has two tough games back-to-back.  South Baca hold onto the #3 spot.  South Baca is on a 4-game losing streak but have played a difficult 4 game stretch.  South Baca will look to bounce back against McClave on Thursday and if not, they travel to Walsh on 9/21 and that is a big-league matchup.  Springfield and Walsh are hoping to bounce back early in the season.  Both have played less than 5 games, and plenty can still change for these teams.

North Central Prediction

1. Briggsdale

2. Fleming

3. Weldon Valley

4. Prairie

5. Peetz

Briggsdale moves into my pick to win the North Central League.  Briggsdale picked up an important 3-0 sweep of Fleming on 9/2 and now control their fate.  Briggsdale did lose recently to 2A Sedgwick County but bounced back nicely beating Flatirons Academy on Tuesday.  Briggsdale plays Otis this Friday in a solid non-league matchup.  Fleming is in control of the #2 spot.  Fleming is 8-1 overall and 3-1 in league play.  Fleming faces Peetz on Thursday and then have a big non-league matchup against 2A Holyoke on Saturday.  Weldon Valley continues to hold onto the #3 spot.  Weldon Valley has played well this season and is 5-4 overall and 2-2 in league play.  Weldon Valley has league wins over Peetz and Prairie but did lose to Briggsdale.  Weldon Valley will have a shot at making regionals this year.  Prairie is 3-4 on the season and are playing much better as of late.  Prairie has won 3 of their last 4 and will hope to get a big win against Idalia on Thursday and then Weldon Valley on Tuesday.

Southern Peaks Predictions

1. Sangre De Cristo

2. Antonito

3. Sierra Grande

4. Centennial

5. Mountain Valley/Moffat

6. Creede

Sangre De Cristo is my pick to win the 1A Southern Peaks League.  Sangre De Cristo is currently 3-4 but have played a difficult schedule to start the season.  Sangre De Cristo should beat Primero on Thursday before hitting a tough stretch of games against 2A Sargent and 2A Sanford.  Antonito is 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in league play.  Antonito has not really been tested this year but tough games against Sierra Grande and La Veta coming up should be solid tests.  Sierra Grande is 2-6 on the season but have played a difficult schedule.  Sierra Grande will look to get back into the win column when they host Antonito on Friday.  Centennial is 2-3 and we will learn more about this team when they travel to La Veta on Thursday.

Black Forest Predictions

1. Simla

2.Evangelical Christian

3. Elbert

4. Kiowa

5. Miami-Yoder

6. Pikes Peak Christian

7. Hanover

8. Edison

9. Colorado D&B

My pick to win the Black Forest league stays as Simla.  Simla is currently 2-7 but the Black Forest League seems to be a bit weaker this season.  Simla will look for a big-league win against Pikes Peak Christian on Friday.  Simla should start to see their record improve as they move into league play.  Evangelical Christian stays in the #2 spot.  ECA is currently 2-2 but have not really moved into the meat of their schedule.  Thursday, they face 2A Calhan before playing in a tournament on Saturday.  ECA will be tested in this tournament.  Elbert is currently 0-4 but looking at who they played is mostly top 10 teams in 2A & 1A.  Elbert will face Cotopaxi on Thursday and 3A Strasburg on Saturday.  I do think once Elbert moves into league play we will see their record improve.  Kiowa is currently 2-4 but have played a tough schedule.  Kiowa will face Hi-Plains Saturday.  Miami-Yoder moves into the #5 spot.  Miami-Yoder is 2-3 currently but have the head to head win over PPC.  Miami-Yoder have a winnable game against Cripple Creek on Saturday and then a big league game against Simla on Tuesday.

YWKC Predictions

1. Liberty/Stratton

2. Arickaree/Woodlin

3. Idalia

4. Otis

5.  Hi-Plains

6. Lone Star

7. Bethune

Stratton is my pick to win the YWKC League.  Stratton is currently 6-1 and have a huge non-league matchup against Wiley on Saturday.  Stratton will face Arickaree/Woodlin in a big-league matchup next Friday.  Arickaree/Woodlin moves into the #2 spot this week.  Arickaree/Woodlin is 4-5 overall but wins over Idalia, Burlington, and Hi-Plains have them move into the #2 spot.  Arickaree/Woodlin will face Stratton next Friday in a big-league game.  Idalia moves into the #3 spot.  Idalia is 5-3 overall and they are on a hot streak as of late winning 3 straight games.  They play Prairie and Holyoke on Thursday which will be solid tests for a hot Idalia team who could move into the #2 spot.  Otis falls to #4 this week.  Otis is 3-7 overall but are much better than their record indicates.  Otis has a lot of quality losses and wins over Wray, Lone Star, and Caliche.  Otis should see their record improve once they move into October.  Hi-Plains falls from #2 to #5 this week.  Hi-Plains is 1-4 currently and have a must win game against Kiowa this Saturday. Lone Star is currently 4-5 but the loss to Otis has them slide to #6.

1. Flatirons Academy

2. Belleview Christian

3. Rocky Mountain Lutheran

4. Mile High Academy

5. Front Range Baptist

6. Denver Waldorf

7. Denver Jewish Day

8. Beth Eden

Flatirons Academy is my pick to win the 5280 League. Flatirons Academy is currently 4-2 but have quality losses to Briggsdale and Dayspring Christian.  Flatirons Academy schedule has mainly consisted of playing 2A teams and that will help them as they kick off league play Thursday against Rocky Mountain Lutheran.  Belleview Christian is my pick for second place.  Belleview Christian is 14-1.  Belleview Christian kicks off league play 9/24 against Rocky Mountain Lutheran.  Belleview Christian will be looking to bounce back from their first loss of the year to Idalia.  Rocky Mountain Lutheran is 5-3 overall.  Rocky Mountain Lutheran picked up their first league win over Front Range Baptist on Tuesday.  RML now will face Flatirons Academy and will be a big test.  Mile High Academy is currently 3-1.  Mile High Academy picked up their first league win over Denver Jewish Day on Tuesday.  Mile High Academy will face ECA next Tuesday before moving back into league play against Denver Waldorf.  Front Range Baptist is 1-4 but they went to a 5th set against Rocky Mountain Lutheran. Still a lot to learn about how good Front Range Baptist will be.  Same goes with Denver Waldorf, Denver Jewish Day, and Beth Eden.

Fishers Peak

1. La Veta

2. Primero

3. Manzanola

La Veta stays as my top pick in the Fisher Peaks League.  La Veta is 3-3 currently but have played a tough schedule.  Primero is 2-6 and have lost 5 straight games.  They face Sangre De Cristo on Thursday.  Manzanola is 1-6 and we will see if they can turn things around.
