8-Man Football League Predictions Update Week 4

We are 3 weeks thru the regular season and some league play has started but most kickoff this week. 8-Man so far has been a lot of fun with a few surprises, but I have a feeling things will really kick up now that we move into league play.  Starting this week, I will have my Playoff Predictions and Projections in a separate article. Also, starting next week we will change up the format just a bit on these article as we move more into playoff hunt mode and start eliminating teams from the playoffs.

Arkansas Valley League

#1 Holly

#2 Crowley County

#3 Fowler

#4 Hoehne

#5 McClave

#6 Las Animas

#7 Wiley

#8 Springfield

Holly is my pick to win the Ark Valley League.  Holly is currently 1-1 and is coming off a bye week.  Holly kicks off league play this week against Springfield who will be desperate for their first win of the season.  Crowley County stays as my pick to finish second in the Ark Valley.  Crowley County also is coming off a bye and are currently 1-1.  Crowley County did pick up a solid win a few weeks ago over Soroco.  Crowley County will face Wiley who will be playing their first game of the season.  Fowler is currently 1-1 and is coming off a 41-0 loss to Akron.  Fowler will look to bounce back against McClave this week who is currently 2-0 and in the hunt for a top 3 finish in the Ark Valley League.  Hoehne rounds out my top 4 in the Ark Valley League.  Hoehne is currently 1-1 and coming off a bye.  Hoehne will face Las Animas who picked up their first win of the season over Sargent.  This is a big game to see if Hoehne can hold onto a top 4 spot early in the league season.

Playoff Hopefuls

Holly, Crowley County, Fowler, Hoehne, McClave, Las Animas

Central League

#1 Front Range Christian

#2 Lyons

#3 Elbert

#4 Byers

#5 Justice

#6 South Park

No clear idea what to think about the Central League but I still think the top 4 teams all have a shot at winning the league title.  Front Range Christian stays as my pick to win the Central League.  FRC is coming off their first loss of the season to Pikes Peak Christian 45-26.  FRC will have to bounce back against League title Contender Elbert.  Elbert is coming off a bye and we will see who gains early traction in league play.  Lyons is also coming off their first loss of the season to Vail Christian 50-20.  Lyons has a bye this week to regroup but then face top 10 opponent Merino on 9/25.  Lyons won’t kick off league play till 10/2 when they face Justice.  Byers is currently 0-3 to start the season but have faced 2 top 10 teams so far.  Byers does not kick off league play this week but have a must win game against Denver Christian on Saturday.  Justice picked up their first win of the season beating Gilpin County 38-30.  Justice will look for win #2 when they face Custer County.

Mountain League

#1 Sanford

#2 Mancos

#3 Dove Creek

#4 Sargent

#5 Norwood

The Mountain League will be a 3-horse race to see who wins the league title.  Sanford stays as my pick to win the Mountain League.  Sanford was once again tested by Simla but had a huge 4th quarter to win 74-50.  Sanford moves into league play this week when they host Sargent.  Sanford will be heavily favored.  Sargent is coming off a tough 20-6 loss to Las Animas and will look to shock the world this week.  Mancos had the biggest win in the Mountain League last week blast then #3 Ranked Merino 49-8.  Mancos had a very dominate performance and like Sanford have to be considered a real title threat in 8-man.  Mancos won’t kick off league play till 10-1 when they face Dove Creek.  Mancos will face South Park this week and will be heavily favored.  Dove Creek had a bye last week and are currently 2-0 on the season.  Dove Creek this week face 1A Gunnison in a crossover game.  Dove Creek will be tested by Gunnison who is 2-0 on the season.  Dove Creek will kick off league play on 9/24 when they face Norwood.

Northwest League

#1 Vail Christian

#2 Plateau Valley

#3 Rangely

#4 West Grand

#5 Hayden

#6 Soroco

#7 Gilpin County

It has been an interesting 3 week so far inside the Northwest League with the preseason favorite struggling and a possible new favorite rising to the top.  Vail Christian is my new pick to win the Northwest League.  Vail Christian is currently 2-0 and two solid wins over Caliche and Lyons are the reason why I have them at #1.  Vail Christian kicks off league play this week against Soroco who is 1-1.  Soroco is coming off a 66-6 win over South Park and will look to show they are a threat in the Northwest League.  Plateau Valley stays as my pick to finish second.  Plateau Valley is currently 1-1 and are coming off a bye.  Plateau Valley kick off league play against Gilpin County who will be searching for their first win of the season.  Rangely falls into the #3 spot.  Rangely is currently 0-2 on the season and coming off a 24-18 loss in OT to Caliche.  Rangely does not start league play this week and have a big non-league matchup with Calhan on the road.  West Grand is currently 0-2 but come off back to back tough games.  West Grand will kick off league play against Hayden.  Hayden is currently 1-1 and come off a win over Norwood.  This should be a good game between two teams hoping for a top 5 finish in league.

Plains League

#1 Sedgwick County

#2 Merino

#3 Haxtun

#4 Dayspring Christian

#5 Akron

#6 Caliche

#7 Denver Christian

The Plains League must be considered the toughest league in 8-Man.  I think 5 teams all have a shot at the league title and Caliche will not be an easy game as well.  I think the Plains league has a legit shot at getting 5 teams into the playoffs, but we will see how things unfold.  Sedgwick County stays as my pick to win the Plains League.  Sedgwick County is currently 1-1 and coming off a bye week.  Sedgwick County kick off league play with a game against rival Merino.  Merino is currently 1-1 and coming off a 49-8 loss to Mancos.  Merino will look to knock off Sedgwick County something they have not done since 2018.  Haxtun stays as my pick for 3rd.  Haxtun is 3-0 to start the season and coming off a 46-0 win over 6-Man Fleming.  Haxtun will face Caliche this week and could be a trap game with Haxtun facing Dayspring Christian next week.  Caliche picked up their first win of the season beating Rangely last week and will look for a big upset this week.  Dayspring Christian is currently 2-1 and are coming off a 42-0 win over Byers.  Dayspring Christian will face Akron in a huge clash.  Dayspring Christian will look to hold onto a top 4 spot.  Akron is coming off a solid 41-0 victory over Fowler last week.  Akron will look to show they are a league title threat and knocking off Dayspring Christian would do just that.  Denver Christian is the only team with a non-league matchup this week.  Denver Christian face Byers and this is a must win game for both Denver Christian and Byers.

Southern League

#1 Simla

#2 Calhan

#3 Swink

#4 Pikes Peak Christian

#5 Dolores Huerta

#6 John Mall

#7 Custer County

The Southern League is going to be tough this year and I think the top 4 teams all have a shot at winning the Southern League title.  I also think the Southern League has a shot at getting 3 maybe 4 teams into the playoffs.  Simla is now my pick to win the Southern League.  Simla is currently 2-1 but played extremely tough against Sanford and were winning thru most of the game but lost 74-50.  Simla kicks off league play against Pikes Peak Christian and this will be a great game right away.  Pikes Peak Christian is coming off a 45-26 win over Front Range Christian.  Being 1-0 early in the league schedule could be big.  Calhan stays as my pick for second place.  Calhan is currently 2-0 with their best win coming over Byers 34-8.  Calhan face a desperate Rangely team this week in a big non-league matchup.  Swink is currently 1-1 and coming off a bye week.  Swink open league play against Dolores Huerta.  This could be an interesting matchup especially with Dolores Huerta coming off a hard-fought loss to McClave.  This game will give us good insight into the league.
