Class 1A League Predictions Update Week 6

The 5th week of the regular season is complete.  League play kicks off in all leagues this week.  This is a big week for many teams in the playoff hunt.  Should be a great week of football.  I will have my Playoff Predictions and Projection sin a separate article.

Foothills

The Foothills League will probably only get the league champion into the playoffs.  With that said the league title race is the main focus in the Foothills league.  Manual is my pick to win the Foothills league.  Manual picked up a huge non-league win over Banning Lewis last week.  Manual kicks league play off against Jefferson tonight 9/30.  Jefferson enters the game at 1-3 and are coming off a 48-2 loss to Denver West last week.  Jefferson would like to take a big step and pull the upset of Manual.  Platte Canyon is now my pick to finish second in league.  Platte Canyon enters league play at 1-3.  Platte Canyon opens league play against Sheridan and should be a win for Platte Canyon.  Sheridan is currently 0-3.  Bennett will enter league play at 0-4 but have played a brutal non-league schedule.  Bennett is easily a team that could win.  Bennett opens league play against Clear Creek.  This is a huge game for Bennett.  Clear Creek is currently 1-3 and need this win to move back into the playoff hunt.

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Clear Creek, Sheridan

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#23 Manual, #24 Platte Canyon, #25 Bennett, #28 Jefferson, #36 Clear Creek, #37 Sheridan

North Central

The North Central League is the toughest league in 1A without a doubt.  All 6 teams are currently in the Top 18 of the RPI and I do think 4 maybe 5 teams get into the playoffs.  Limon stays as my pick to win the North Central League.  Limon will enter league play at 4-0.  Limon kicks league play off against Yuma.  Limon must be able to stop the run to win this game.  Yuma will enter league play at 3-1 and enter on a 2-game winning streak.  Yuma will look for another quality win against Limon.  Yuma sits at #11 in the RPI but would love to pick the upset of Limon up.  Wray is my pick to finish second in league.  Wray enters league play at 3-1 and coming off 3 straights win not giving up more than 7 points.  Wray opens league play against Wiggins, and this has to be one of the best games in Class 1A.  Wiggins enters league play at 4-0 and coming off their signature win over Flatirons Academy 41-7.  Wiggins is my dark horse pick to win the North Central.  They can make a big move for it by upsetting Wray.  Holyoke enters league play at 3-1 and Holyoke is coming off a 49-14 win over Lamar.  Holyoke opens league play against Burlington.  This is another big game for pecking order within the North Central League.  Holyoke is still missing their signature win and Burlington could be that.  Burlington enters league play at 2-2 and coming off a big 44-7 win over Rye.  Burlington put themselves right back into playoff hunt with their win over Rye.  Burlington will hope to stay in the hunt by picking up at least 1 win in league play.  Burlington has been one of my biggest surprises in Class 1A.

In the Playoff Hunt

Limon, Holyoke, Wray, Wiggins, Yuma, Burlington

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

None

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#2 Wiggins, #7 Limon, #8 Wray, #10 Holyoke, #11 Yuma, #15 Burlington

Northern League

Strasburg stays as my pick to win the Northern League.  Strasburg picked up their second win of the season beating Bennett 41-0.  Strasburg now sits at 2-3 heading into league play.  Strasburg opens league play against Highland.  This league matchup will go along way to come up with a pecking order within the Northern League.  Strasburg is somewhat on the bubble at #13.  Highland enters league ply at 3-2 and coming off a 28-12 win over 2A Weld Central.  Highland will look for a big win over Strasburg but must be able to stop the run-on defense.  Highland currently sits at #12 and is also on the bubble.  Flatirons Academy enters league play at 3-1 overall and coming off a 41-7 loss to Wiggins.  Flatirons Academy has a must win this week against Estes Park.  If Flatirons drops a game to Estes Park it could really hurt their playoff hopes.  Estes Park moved into the eliminated from Playoff Hunt this week but if Estes Park upsets Flatirons Academy, then it will move them back into the hunt.

In the Playoff Hunt

Strasburg, Highland, Flatirons Academy

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Estes Park, Prospect Ridge

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#9 Flatirons Academy, #12 Highland, #13 Strasburg, #29 Estes Park, #35 Prospect Ridge

Santa Fe League

The Santa Fe League is another league that could get just the league champion into playoffs.  Peyton is my pick to win the Santa Fe League.  Peyton dropped to 2-3 overall and are coming off a 12-6 loss to C.S Christian.  This loss and Banning Lewis lost last week really hurt the Santa Fe league shot at getting an at-large berth.  Peyton has a bye this week before jumping into league play next week against Trinidad.  Banning Lewis dropped to 2-2 overall and are coming off a 34-25 loss to Manual.  As mentioned the loss by Banning Lewis to Manual really hurt their shot at an at-large berth.  Banning Lewis opens league play against Rocky Ford this week.  This is a must win for both teams but Banning Lewis will hope to reopen the door for an at-large berth if they pull the win.  Rocky Ford enters the game at 0-4 and need the league title to get into the playoffs.

In the Playoff Hunt

Peyton, Banning Lewis

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Rocky Ford, Trinidad

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#21 Peyton, #22 Banning Lewis, #32 Rocky Ford, #33 Trinidad

Southern Peaks

Centauri is my pick to win the Southern Peaks League.  Centauri will enter league play at 4-0 and coming off a bye.  Centauri is the big time favorite to win the SPL and are a top contender for the Class 1A title.  Centauri opens league play against Center.  Centauri will look to get going in league right away and avoid any upsets.  Center enters league play at 1-3 and come off a bye.  Center will look to get back on the winning side of things and upsetting Centauri can do just that.  Centers sits at #27 in the RPI.  Center will more than likely need an upset of Monte Vista, Centauri, or Meeker to get into the playoffs.  Monte Vista is my pick to finish second in the SPL.  Monte Vista picked up their second straight win beating Cedaredge 32-6.  Monte Vista opens league play against Del Norte.  Monte Vista will look to put pressure on the passing attack of Del Norte.  Del Norte is just barely holding onto the playoff hunt.  Del Norte needs probably 2 or 3 wins in their final 5 games to get into the playoffs.  Del Norte will be tested on the ground this week and their offense must get going.  Ignacio enters league play at 5-0 and have a bye this week.  Ignacio schedule has not been the toughest and their OWP shows that with just a OWP of .224.  Ignacio will look to prove inside league play they are a legit threat.

In the Playoff Hunt

Centauri, Monte Vista, Center, Ignacio, Del Norte

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

None

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#1 Centauri, #14 Ignacio, #16 Monte Vista, #27 Center, #30 Del Norte

Tri-Peaks

Florence is my pick to win the Tri-Peaks.  Florence enters league play at 5-0 and coming off a 61-0 win over Rocky Ford.  Florence opens league play against Rye.  Florence will look to continue their dominance on defense and will be tested by a physical Rye team.  Rye enters league play at 3-2 overall and coming off a 44-7 loss to Burlington.  Rye dropped to #19 in the RPI and now need a quality win to push for a playoff spot.  Rye is a team who probably need to win 2 of their final 4 games.  Buena Vista is my pick to finish second in the Tri-Peaks.  Buena Vista enters league play at 5-0.  Buena Vista has a non-league matchup against North Fork this week and this should be a great test for both teams.  Buena Vista is top 10 in the RPI and should be in good shape for the playoffs.  Buena Vista must be able to stop the run and their offense will be tested by a physical defense.   C.S Christian kept their playoff hopes alive by upsetting Peyton 12-6.  C.S Christian have back-to-back non-league games.  C.S Christian will face Trinidad which is a must win and then face Gunnison on 10/7 and should be a great game.  C.S Christian currently sits at #20 in the RPI.

In the Playoff Hunt

Florence, Buena Vista, Rye, C.S Christian

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

None

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#3 Florence, #6 Buena Vista, #19 Rye, #20 C.S Christian

Western Slope

North Fork is my pick to win the Western Slope League.  North Fork moved to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in league play.  North Fork will move out of league play this week and face undefeated Buena Vista.  This is a big non-league matchup and will go along way to figuring out the playoff picture.  North Fork defensively will be tested by Buena Vista.  Offensively North Fork must be able to run the ball effectively.  Meeker is my pick to finish second in the Western Slope.  Meeker is coming off a 17-14 loss to Buena Vista and that drops their record to 2-2.  Meeker moves back into league play this week.  Meeker will host Grand Valley and this is very important to the league play race.  Meeker needs a bounce back win and must get going offensively this week.  Grand Valley enters this matchup at 3-2.  Grand Valley is coming off a 49-7 loss to North Fork.  Grand Valley needs a quality win and an upset of Meeker could do just that.  Gunnison is the biggest surprise so far in the Western Slope.  Gunnison is currently 4-0 on the season.  Gunnison will host Cedaredge this week and should be a solid test for Gunnison.  Gunnison must be able to stop the run.  Cedaredge is currently 1-3 overall and must get an upset to move back into the playoff hunt.  If Cedaredge can upset Gunnison, they can move right back into the playoff hunt.  Cedaredge is currently at #34 in the RPI.  Olathe is currently eliminated from the playoff hunt but if Olathe beats Roaring Fork we will see what their RPI does and if we can move them back into the hunt.

In the Playoff Hunt

Gunnison, North Fork, Meeker, Grand Valley

Eliminated from the Playoff Hunt

Olathe, Cedaredge, Roaring Fork

RPI Standings (As of 9/30)

#4 Gunnison, #5 North Fork, #17 Grand Valley, #18 Meeker, #26 Olathe, #32 Roaring Fork, #34 Cedaredge
