Playoff Football time! Some great games in the Quarterfinals and we have a great Semifinal Round upcoming. Basically, 1A is split in West vs East Currently and they square off to see who meets in the State Championships. Some great games this week in the semifinals!
#1 Limon over #5 Wray
Limon moved into the Semifinals with a 46-19 win over North Fork. Limon jumped out to a quick 16-0 lead, but North Fork fought back scoring 13 points in the second quarter. Limon did respond to this run scoring another 16 points in the 2nd quarter and taking a 32 to 13 lead into halftime. Limon was able to get on the board two more times and put the game away and move into the semifinals. Defensively did a solid job stopping the run holding the leading rusher to just 70 yards. Limon also forced 1 turnover and 9 TFL. Ky Bandy was the leading tackler for Limon. Offensively Limon generated 494 yards of total offense. RB Jeremiah Leeper had a big day on the ground rushing for 209 yards. QB Trey Hines also had a solid day with 140 yards of total offense. Limon will now look to advance to the State Championship when they face league rival Wray.
Wray moved into the Semifinals with a 36-7 win over Florence. Wray had a great defensive plan and executed it well. Wray took a 22 to 7 lead into halftime and continued adding points in the second half scoring two more times to put the game away. Wray defensively shutdown Florence offense and limited them to just 1 score. Wray forced 2 turnovers and had 9.5 sacks in the game. Defensive Linemen Tell Wade had a career day racking up 10 Tackles, 5 TFL, and 3.5 Sacks. Offensively Wray racked up 420 yards of total offense. QB Casey Midcap, RB Caeden Bauer, and RB Brady Collins all eclipsed the 100 yards of total offense mark. Wray will now look to avenge their loss to Limon during the regular season.
I am going with Limon over Wray. Limon defeated Wray 41 to 0 during the regular season, but I expect a much closer game this game around. Wray to snag the upset must be able to stop the run. Wray defense must play their best game of the season. Offensively Wray must have production from their rushing attack. Limon offensively will look to keep the two headed monsters of Leeper and Schubarth going. Defensively look for Limon to make Freshman QB Casey Midcap beat them. I am going with Limon over Wray due to Limon defense. I think Limon defensively will be the difference and their offense will do a good job of controlling the tempo. I do think Wray adjusts and makes this a much closer game this time around.
#2 Centauri over #3 Buena Vista
Centauri moved into the Semifinals with a 40 to 7 win over Yuma. Centauri hit the road last week and had a solid performance on both sides of the ball. Centauri kicked things off with 6 points in the 1st quarter and then got on the board early in the second quarter to take a 14 to 0 lead. Yuma was able to strike back and get on the board. Centauri then got on the board again with another TD and pushed the lead to 20 to 6 at halftime. Centauri after halftime got going again and scored 3 more time to advance into the semifinals. Defensively Centauri did a great job stopping the run holding Clay Robinson to 150 yards rushing on 35 carries and holding Yuma to under 200 yards of total offense. Centauri forced 2 turnovers and 8 TFL in the game. Baron Holman led all tacklers with 21. Offensively Centauri had a big game racking up 329 yards of total offense. QB Byron Shawcroft had a big game with 100 yards of offense and 4 TDs. RB Mason Claunch and WR Baron Holman also had big days on offense. Centauri will now look to get into the State Championship and get over the final hump.
Buena Vista advanced into the Semifinals with a 22 to 15 OT win over Meeker. This was a great game! Meeker got on the board first in the second quarter. Buena Vista answered back almost immediately, and it was an 8 to 8 score heading into halftime. Meeker then retook the lead in the 3rd quarter. Buena Vista would not go down quietly and would score early in the 4th quarter and force OT. Buena Vista would score first in OT and would hold Meeker out of the endzone to snag the hard-fought win over Meeker. This was probably the best game in the Quarterfinals. Buena Vista defensively played tough holding Meeker to just 192 yards rushing. Buena Vista forced 2 turnovers in the game and 4 TFL. Seth Moss and Tucker Storms both had big games for Buena Vista. Offensively Buena Vista racked up 326 yards of offense. RB Jacob Phelps and QB Haden Camp led the way for Buena Vista. Buena Vista will now look for a huge upset of Centauri.
I am going with Centauri over Buena Vista. These teams had 2 common opponents in C.S Christian and Peyton. Centauri beat C.S Christian 47-0 and Peyton 45-6. Buena Vista beat C.S Christian 49-12 and Peyton 21-8. Buena Vista will need to lean heavily on their defense to slow down this Centauri offense. Buena Vista offensively must continue to have success from their rushing attack. Centauri defensively must slow down a dual threat QB. Offensively Centauri must continue to be balanced in their attack. I am going with Centauri over Buena Vista. I think defensively Centauri has the advantage. They have faced multiple style of offenses and have tons of speed to keep up with teams. Offensively I also give Centauri the advantage especially their ability to be balanced in their attack. I think if Buena Vista defensively can slow down Centauri they can stay in this game and force a close game.
