Class 2A State Championship Predictions and Breakdown
We have reached the end of the road. This season has really flown by. The Class 2A bracket did not go as planned as upsets happened in the Quarterfinals and made for a very interesting semifinal. The State Championship features the #1 vs #7 teams. Good Luck to both teams on Saturday!
#1 Eaton over #7 Brush
Eaton reached the State Championship with 39 to 24 win over #12 University. Eaton and University started quick with Eaton taking a 21-12 lead after the first quarter. Things slowed down in the 2nd quarter with Eaton scoring in the only TD. University would cut into the lead a bit in the 3rd quarter before Eaton closed things out in the 4th quarter and grabbing the win. Defensively Eaton did give up some points and some yards thru the air. Eaton defensively did make University throw the ball much more than normal. Eaton forced 3 turnovers in the game. Eaton was led on defense by Ethan Florez and Ryder True both with over 14 tackles. Offensively Eaton had 408 yards of total offense. QB Walker Martin had a big game with 293 yards of total offense. WR Zach Grable and WR Austin Martinez both had big day receiving. Eaton will look to repeat this season and hold off a somewhat Cinderella run of Brush.
Brush reached the State Championship with a 35 to 18 win over #6 Severance. Brush trailed 7 to 0 after the first quarter. Brush then outscored Severance 21 to 3 in the 2nd quarter to take a 21 to 10 lead heading into halftime. Brush and Severance defenses would then flex their muscle in the 3rd quarter. Brush would close things out in the 4th quarter outscoring severance 14 to 6 to pull its back to back upset of the State Playoffs. Defensively Brush gave up just over 100 yards of rushing. Brush overall held Severance to just over 300 yard of offense and played another great defensive game. Brush forced 4 interceptions in the game. Kaden Moriarty and Kyle Wellen lead Brush in tackles. Offensively Brush had 325 yards of total offense. RB Cesar Hinojos had a huge game with 204 yards rushing and 3 TDs. Kyle Wellen also had a big game with 82 yards of total offense. Brush will no look to complete their run and upset their 3rd team of the playoffs.
This should be a good game. Eaton is a team every expected to be here and Brush is having a great run and got hot at the right time. Eaton offensively has really be able to use both their rushing attack and passing attack to score points. Eaton biggest advantage must be their defense as they have been the anchor of this team. Brush offensively has relied on their rushing attack, but their passing attack has done enough to keep people off balance. Brush defensively has also really stepped up in the playoffs holding two teams to under 24 points and helping their teams pull the upset. I am going with Eaton over Brush. I am going with Eaton because they have the experience and I think their defense can slow down the rushing attack of Brush. I do think this will be a good game and don’t expect either team to break to 30-point mark. Good Luck to both teams this Saturday.
