Class 2A Girls Basketball State Tournament Predictions
We have reached the end of the road and for 8 teams it’s time to compete for the State Championship. Some great matchups in the first round and looking forward. I am going to give my prediction for the Great 8 and then I will move forward from there. I will try and give an update after each day during the State Tournament. We won’t be at the 2A State Tournament till 4:30 on Thursday but plan on being there all-day Friday.
Great 8
#1 Sanford over #8 Wiggins
Sanford looks to continue there run thru the district 2 teams and will face their 3rd in 3 games. Wiggins comes into the state tournament red hot and looking for another upset. This should be a good matchup and defense will be key. I like Sanford against a young Wiggins team, but I think this will be a tough matchup.
#4 Rye over #5 Cedaredge
Rye and Cedaredge faced each other back in December with Rye winning big. I don’t think this is a blowout this time around and expect a closer game. I give Rye the advantage with the experience and Rye statement blowout win over Yuma shows they are playing their best basketball.
#3 Limon over #6 Peyton
This could be a trap game for Limon if they overlook Peyton. Peyton comes into the State Tournament red hot winning 16 straight games. Limon is also on a long winning streak and your defending state champions. This is an interesting matchup between the youth of Peyton and the experience of Limon. That is the difference though and I am going with Limon over Peyton.
#2 Holyoke over #7 Dayspring Christian
Holyoke got the best draw of the top 4 seeds and face a Dayspring Christian team who was challenged in both of their regional games. Dayspring Christian will need their front court to play their best games this season to try and upset Holyoke. Holyoke will look to advance to the Final 4 for the second straight year. This could be an interesting matchup if Dayspring Christian can hold up against the front line of Holyoke.

I think most people have this final four written down. I am looking forward to these two games
#1 Sanford over #4 Rye
Sanford vs Rye is a rematch from 2019-2020 when Sanford upset an undefeated Rye team in the Elite 8. It was a great game with the defense of Sanford causing problems. Rye will look to reach the final but will look for their depth to step up and take pressure off the Adamson sisters. I think defense is key in this matchup and I am going with Sanford over Rye because of defense and a more balanced scoring attack. This will be a great game.
#2 Holyoke over #3 Limon
This is another rematch from 1/22 when Holyoke upset then #1 Limon 50-45. I expect another great rematch and look for the guards to make a difference in this game. Both teams have exceptional front courts lead by POY candidates in Kristin Vieselmeyer and Trista Marx but I think the guards of each team plus secondary scoring makes the difference. This is another great matchup in the Final 4.
