MileHigh Prep Reports Top 10 Games of the Week (Class 2A and 6-Man)
We are doing something a bit different this season and looking at the top 10 games of the week. These games are picked by MileHigh Prep Report and ranking does not matter. We will separate into two classes and go from there for the first few weeks. If there are not 10 games that catch are eye, we will lower the number of games. Good Luck this season to all teams! Rankings used are from the Media Poll.

Class 2A
#1 Eaton at #3 Classical Academy
Simple, a top 3 clash in the opening weekend. This will be a very interesting game early in the season and should give us an early look at both teams.
#2 Delta vs University
This is another great matchup. University is not ranked in my media poll, but the coaches have them ranked #5 and Maxpreps has them at #7. Delta is top 3 in all three polls. This is a big matchup for teams looking to establish themselves as early title contenders.
#8 La Junta vs Burlington (1A)
These two did not play last season and both are looking to get off to a hot start. Burlington will look to solidify their offensive line and show they are much improved from their 2-7 record last season. La Junta will look to solidify their defense and show they are a contender in Class 2A.
#6 Platte Valley at Kent Denver (Saturday)
Platte Valley was young last season at the skill positions but had an experienced offensive line. The tables are turned this season with an experience at the skill positions, but their offensive line has a few holes. Kent Denver will be very inexperienced at the skill positions but have a solid defense returning which must step up early in the season.
#9 Alamosa at Pueblo Central (3A)
A very intriguing matchup. Alamosa is looking to prove they are a true contender in Class 2A. They have a very impressive skill position group back and possibly one of the top QB/WR combo in Class 2A. The main question mark is their offensive line. Pueblo Central will be much improved this season and will return a solid senior class. Pueblo Central has their eyes on a playoff berth and knocking off a top 10 opponent right away could be that spark.
#10 Elizabeth vs D’Evelyn
Two very talented QBs square up in this matchup and should make for a fun matchup. Elizabeth will be reloading on the offensive line and defense but return great leadership at QB. D’Evelyn will be looking to get into the playoffs this season and will lean on improved QB play and a very underrated defense this season.
Sterling at Yuma (1A)
Both teams come into this matchup with a lot of question marks and those will look to be answered. Sterling will be searching for new skill position players and bounce back from a rough 2021 season. Yuma lose a talented senior class and the main question mark is can they replace most of their offense that graduated last season.
#5 Moffat County vs Resurrection Christian (3A)
Typical a great 2A matchup but not this season as Resurrection Christian moves into Class 3A. Moffat County is looking to get off to a great start and will face an always tough defensive team in Resurrection Christian. A very intriguing early season matchup!
Woodland Park at Summit (3A)
An early season look at Woodland Park and see how much they have improved this offseason. Summit is also looking to show they are competitive inside their league. Both teams are looking to get off to a hot start.
Berthoud at Timnath
I like this early season matchup. Berthoud will have a lot of question marks with a new QB as they look to rebuild their offense again. Timnath is a brand-new program, so we get an early look at a new team.
6-Man
#1 Stratton at #2 Cheyenne Wells
Rematch of the State Championship is all that needs to be said in this matchup!!! Get your popcorn ready and expect a packed house in Cheyenne Wells!
#4 Granada at #7 Branson/Kim
6-Man is littered with great matchups in Week 1, and this is another great example. Both teams return tons of talent and both teams are looking to move to 1-0 early in the season. This is going to be a fantastic game with tons of playmakers on both sides of the ball.
#3 Fleming vs North Park (Saturday)
A league matchup to open the season and this puts that much more of an emphasis on this game. Fleming returns a ton of talent from last year’s team but will have a few holes to fill. North Park also returns a lot of talent, and they hope to reach the playoffs this season. This will be a physical battle and look for both teams to be 1-0 in league play.
#6 Prairie vs #8 Cheraw
Another top 10 battle in the opening weekend makes this another exciting matchup. Prairie will have a few question marks mainly at QB and who won the QB battle. I do have a feeling Prairie will be bringing it on defense. Cheraw also has a few question marks mainly secondary skill positions players. I do think we will see a lot of running in this game.
#5 Idalia vs Briggsdale
Typically, a top 10 matchup but Briggsdale will have a few question marks to get answered. Briggsdale has the athletes but must put everything together including finding a new QB. I still think Briggsdale will be a tough game against anyone this season. Idalia will also have a few question marks mainly on defense losing some key pieces. Idalia though offensively could be extremely tough this season.
Genoa-Hugo vs Eads
Another great matchup and this is two teams looking to make a statement right off the bat. Genoa-Hugo loses some key pieces from last year’s team but a solid junior class and leadership coming back should have them on pace to reach the playoffs again. Eads is healthy and when healthy are very tough. Eads is looking for that statement win, and this could be it against a Genoa-Hugo team ranked in the coach’s poll.
Walsh at La Veta
A battle of two up and coming teams makes this a fantastic matchup. Two teams that have been building and looking to take the next step. I know just the first week, but this could be a matchup that determines who gets into the state playoffs.
Mountain Valley at Hanover
Both teams enter with plenty of question marks. Mountain Valley has two leaders back and both must make an impact on this game. Hanover has their QB back and he will rely on some players stepping up. Both teams have playoff hopes again and getting to 1-0 is important.
#9 Arickaree vs Bethune
Arickaree is poised for a playoff run but have a few question marks that still must be answered. Bethune is restarting their program and we will see how they compete against a top team right off the bat.
Otis at Kit Carson
I am excited about this matchup. Kit Carson will be looking to shed the 0-8 season from a year ago and with the returners they have they should improve. Otis was very young last season and I think they take a big step this season. This is a very important game to get off on the right foot for both teams.
