MileHigh Prep Reports Top 10 Games of the Week, Week 2(Class 3A)
We are doing something a bit different this season and looking at the top 10 games of the week. These games are picked by MileHigh Prep Report and ranking does not matter. We will separate into two classes and go from there for the first few weeks. If there are not 10 games that catch are eye, we will lower the number of games. Good Luck this season to all teams!
Class 3A
#6 Evergreen at #3 Northridge
We kick are top 10 matchups for Week 2 with a top 10 battle. Evergreen vs Northridge should be a great game. Evergreen enters following the 56-8 win over Battle Mountain. Evergreen dominated defensively giving up under 70 yards of rushing and just over 100 yards of total offense. Evergreen offensively had a solid day with 351 yards of total offense. QB Tommy Poholsky had a solid outing passing the ball. Evergreen will be tested much more this week by Northridge. Northridge enters at 1-0 following the 52-0 win over Gateway. Northridge defensively dominated the game forcing 3 sacks, 5 INTs, and 1 fumble. Offensively Northridge got things rolling on the ground racking up 262 yards of rushing. RB Isaac Kness had a solid day with 151 yards on the ground. This will be a much tougher test for both teams and should be a great game.
#9 Severance at #5 Green Mountain
Another top 10 matchup in Class 3A. This is another top matchup and should give us a solid look a both teams. Severance kicked off their Class 3A debut with a 21-5 win over Canon City. Severance defensively was dominate giving up 49 total yards of offense. Severance offensively did struggle a bit with just 166 yards of offense. This is my main concern for Severance and hopefully they clean a few things up heading into this week’s matchup. Green Mountain kicked their 2022 campaign off with a 47-0 win over Hollins FL. Offensively Green Mountain was dominate racking up over 350 yards of total offense. Green Mountain defensively also played well pitching the shutout. This will be a much tougher matchup for Green Mountain especially on offense. This could be a defensive slog as both teams look for a key win early in the year.
#2 Durango at Piedra Vista NM
A out of state Matchup is featured here. Piedra Vista is 2-0 on the season in Class 5A in NM. Piedra Vista is coming off a 14-12 win over Sanida NM who is 6A. Piedra Vista has been a top team in NM so this will be a good test for Durango. Durango enters following the 56-7 win over Farmington NM. Durango was dominate in the game and will be tested much more this week. This is a good game to judge both teams and I will keep an eye on this game.
#6 Lutheran at #8 Mead
Back to a top 10 matchup in Class 3A. This is a huge matchup for both teams as they look for a key early season win. Lutheran enters at 0-1 and come off a 26-6 loss to Lutheran MO. Lutheran will look to bounce back from the loss. Offensively Lutheran did play well but must limit turnovers after throwing 3 INTs. Defensively Lutheran did play well but came up just short in the 4th Quarter. Mead enters the game at 1-0 and are coming off a 35-34 thrilling win over 4A Windsor. Mead trailed until the 4th quarter where they took the lead by 1 and held on late. Mead offensively played tough especially on the ground racking up 374 yards rushing. RB Danny Brewington had a huge game with 209 yards rushing and 3 TDs. Defensively Mead played tough with 4 sacks and key stops in the 4th quarter. This is a big game for both teams!
Pueblo Central at Pueblo East
Pueblo Central vs Pueblo East a huge rivalry game and a huge game in Class 3A. Pueblo Central is coming off a 40-29 win over Alamosa last week. Pueblo Central offensively had a solid day on the ground with 301 yards rushing. Pueblo Central must continue to dominate on the ground. Defensively Pueblo Central did give up some passing yards but forced key INTs in the game to help them get the win. Pueblo East enters with a 1-0 record after a 47-17 win over 4A Cheyenne Mountain. Pueblo East had a dominate second quarter to build their lead. Offensively Pueblo East racked up over 400 yards of total offense. QB Zayden Stevens had a fantastic game. Defensively Pueblo East played well holding Cheyenne Mountain to just 17 points and forced 2 turnovers. Any time Pueblo teams meet it will be a good game and I expect that this week.
Pueblo South at Discovery Canyon
A very interesting matchup between these two teams. Pueblo South is coming off a tough 27-12 loss to Pueblo County. Pueblo South struggled offensively and will look to bounce back from that showing. Pueblo South must also fix a few things defensively after giving up 274 yards rushing. Discovery Canyon enters with a 1-0 record following the 29-21 win over Lewis Palmer. Discovery Canyon had to hold on late as Lewis Palmer made a run late in the game. Discovery Canyon played well defensively forcing 5 turnovers in the game. Offensively they had a solid attack on the ground racking up 186 yards rushing. Both Pueblo South and Discovery Canyon are looking for that key win and this could be that game.
Grand Junction Central at Palisade
A great rivalry game this week between Grand Junction Central and Palisade. Grand Junction Central is Class 4A and coming off a 14-7 loss to Fruita Monument. Grand Junction Central offensively struggled at times with just over 150 yards of total offense. QB Devin Hickey had a solid game and now look to get things rolling this week offensively. Defensively Grand Junction Central gave up over 300 yards rushing but limited Fruita Monument to just 14 points. Grand Junction Central will lean on their defense again this week. Palisade also enters at 0-1 following the 35-18 lose to Roosevelt. Palisade offensively got the ground game rolling racking up 218 yards rushing. Defensively Palisade gave up 457 yards of total offense and that is something they will look to fix. Rivalry games are always fun, and you can just throw out any statistics when they happen.
Pueblo West at Pueblo County
Another cross-town rivalry this week. Pueblo West vs Pueblo County and this should be a great matchup. Pueblo West is 2-0 on the season in Class 4A. Pueblo West has wins over Grand Junction and Dakota Ridge. Pueblo West last week had a solid offensive game racking up over 400 yards of total offense. Defensively they made key stops and were able to grab the close win. Pueblo County is 1-0 on the season following the 27-12 win over Pueblo South. Pueblo County had a solid day on defense giving up just 69 yards of offense. Pueblo County will have some special teams’ issues to fix heading into this week’s game. Offensively Pueblo County had a solid game rushing for 274 yards with RB Cody Lanier and Patrick Noga breaking the 90-yard mark. This is going to be a interesting game for both teams. We will see each teams’ defenses perform this week and I expect a good game.
#4 Holy Family at Broomfield
This should be another great game between Class 3A and Class 4A. Holy Family comes in with a 27-26 win over Frederick. Holy Family was very balanced offensively in this game and that helped with the new QB. Holy Family does have a few things to fix heading into this next matchup. Broomfield is in Class 4A and are coming off a 47-14 win over Longmont. Broomfield had a solid day on offense with 350 yards of total offense. Defensively Broomfield also played well holding Longmont to under 100 yards of rushing. Look for both teams to set the tempo and I think turnover will be very important in this game.
#10 Frederick at Monarch
Another 3A vs 4A matchup and this should be an interesting game. Frederick enters at 0-1 after falling late to Holy Family 27-26. Frederick will look to fix the mistakes defensively, but they did force 4 turnovers in the game. Offensively Frederick got the ground game rolling racking up 254 yards of rushing. Frederick will look to right the ship this week. Monarch comes in at 0-1 as well falling to Standley Lake 38-13. Monarch struggled defensively giving up over 350 yards of total offense. Offensively Monarch did find some success passing for 197 yards, but their rushing attack did not get going. This I think is a very key matchup for both teams early on.
