MileHigh Prep Reports Top 10 Games of the Week (Class 2A and 1A)
We are doing something a bit different this season and looking at the top 10 games of the week. These games are picked by MileHigh Prep Report and ranking does not matter. We will separate into two classes and go from there for the first few weeks. If there are not 10 games that catch are eye, we will lower the number of games. Good Luck this season to all teams! Class 2A
#3 Eaton vs #5 Platte Valley (Saturday)
This is a huge game. Both teams enter coming off big wins. This game will have major playoff seeding implications and this should be a great game. Both teams enter with solid QBs and defenses that look to take over games. This is a top game in Colorado.
#9 The Academy at #7 Elizabeth
Another top 10 matchup and both teams enter undefeated. Elizabeth has faced two top opponents already and walked away with tough wins. The Academy has not been tested yet and this is a true test to see where they stand in Class 2A. This is another big game with playoff seeding implications.
#1 Classical Academy at Alamosa
A big road test comes up for the #1 team in the State. TCA travels to the SLV for a big test. Alamosa will be looking for the upset behind their QB, but the main question will be can their defense step up and stop the run. TCA will hope to dominate the line of scrimmage and control the tempo.
#2 Delta at 3A Palisade
This should be a great matchup, but the main question is how long Ty Reed is out for Delta. If he misses this game, then who steps up for Delta at QB. Palisade is 0-2 and will be looking to snap the losing streak. This is a very interesting matchup with multiple storylines.
Moffat County at Bayfield
Another great matchup this weekend. Moffat County picked up their first win of the season and look to keep it rolling. Bayfield has yet to face a Colorado team and will be their first test to see where they measure up in Class 2A. This is another big game with big playoff implications.
Faith Christian at D’Evelyn
This is a big game with I think playoff qualifications on the line. Faith Christian is 1-0 but were not tested in their opening game. D’Evelyn is 0-1 and played tough against Elizabeth. This is a huge game for both teams and could be the difference between a team getting into the playoffs.
Arvada at Englewood
I think a very underrated matchup between two teams hoping to get into the playoffs. Arvada is 1-1 and have played tough in both games. They are looking for a signature win. Englewood is 1-0 and were not challenged in their win. They face a much tough opponent this week and should be a test to see where they are in 2A.
Berthoud at 3A Thompson Valley
The first big test for 2-0 Berthoud on the season. Berthoud has not been tested in their first two games but a true test against Thompson Valley who lost in OT in their first game. Berthoud is looking to prove they are a contender a win over Thompson Valley could do that.
#8 Florence vs Pagosa Springs
A very interesting matchup. Florence has not put a full offensive game together and will face a team who defensively has been tough in both their opening season games. Pagosa Springs offensively has struggled out the gate and Florence is a very tough defensively. This could be a defensive slugfest early.
Sterling at Wellington
Wellington picked up their first win in program history now they look to show they can compete in the 2A ranks when they host Sterling. Sterling is looking to break a 2 game slide and we will see who comes out in this matchup.
Class 1A
#1 Limon at #3 Strasburg (Saturday)
A phenomenal game to kick off Class 1A. Limon at Strasburg a top 3 matchup and should be a great game. This has seeding implications and, we get to see how each team measures up to each other. I am looking forward to this game!
#7 Centauri at #4 Buena Vista
Another top 10 matchup in Class 1A. Centauri will be looking to rebound from a tough loss to Florence last week. Offensively they must find answers after losing their top RB. Defensively Centauri is very tough, and they must continue to dominate games. Buena Vista enters off a bye week. Buena Vista struggled in their opening game, and they will look to fix the mistakes. Buena Vista will be tested offensively by a very good defense. This will be a great game!
#9 Banning Lewis at #8 Yuma
Another top 10 matchup! Yuma is 2-0 and were tested last week by Burns WY. They will look to be physical on both sides of the ball and look for a key 1A win. Banning Lewis is also 2-0 and have not been tested yet. This is the first true test for Banning Lewis this season and we will see were they stand in Class 1A after this weeks game.
#5 Monte Vista at Gunnison
Another great game in Class 1A and a big matchup between playoff hopefuls. Monte Vista enters at 2-0 and come off a 64-33 win over C.S Christian. Gunnison enters at 1-1 and come off a hard fought 21-7 loss to Alamosa. This will be a physical game and I think the winner comes with who controls the line of scrimmage.
Peyton at Center
A very intriguing matchup between Peyton and Center. This game has huge playoff implications. Peyton enters at 0-1 following the shutout loss to Cedaredge. We will see what adjustments Peyton has made and they will be tested on defense by a spread offense. Center enters at 1-1 and they picked up a huge win over Olathe last week. Center will look to grab a key win and will look to keep their high-flying offense going. This is a huge game for both teams!
North Fork at Grand Valley
Another very interesting matchup. North Fork vs Grand Valley last year was a league game, and this season is a non-league game. North Fork is 0-1 on the season and had a bye last week. North Fork offensively must get things going and defensively must be able to stop the run this week. Grand Valley is off to a hot start at 2-0. Grand Valley snuck out the 1-point win over Cedaredge last week and they will look for another big win this week.
Salida at Rye
I think another very underrated matchup. Salida is 0-2 on the season but have played very tough against Buena Vista and Woodland Park. Salida looks to right the ship and they will be tested by a physical Rye team. Rye is 1-0 and they needed to come from behind to win last week. Rye must get off to a better start this week. I think this will be a very physical game
Cedaredge at Del Norte
This is another very interesting game. Cedaredge is 1-1 to start the season with a nice win over Peyton then a 1-point loss to Grand Valley last week. Cedaredge will be tested again this week by Del Norte and we will see if Cedaredge passing attack gets going. Del Norte is 2-0 on the season but have yet to be truly tested. This is a huge measuring stick game for Del Norte to see where they stand in Class 1A.
Scott KS at #2 Wray
An out of state opponent makes the trip to face Wray this weekend. Scott KS is 1-0 on the season and they look to challenge Wray. Wray is coming off a win over Goodland KS last week. This is the final out of state opponent for Wray before they face Ellicott next week.
#10 Meeker vs Aspen
We wrap up my top 10 games with an intriguing matchup. Meeker is 1-1 on the season following a tough loss to Limon last week. Meeker will look to get back to their winning ways and must get the ground game established this week. Aspen is somewhat of a mystery. They lost big to Gunnison in their first game. They have a new coach this season and did not past stats from last season. We will see where Aspen stands following this game.
