Class 1A League Predictions Week 6

We are 5 weeks into the regular season.  League play kicks off this week in all league but League One which has already started league play.  With that said I will be jumping much more into the CHSAA Seeding Index and possibly eliminate some teams from playoff contention.  I will post separately my Playoff Projections and Predictions.

League One

1. Gunnison

2. Buena Vista

3. Meeker

4. North Fork

5. Cedaredge

6. Roaring Fork

7. Olathe

League play has already kicked off in League One.  All but two teams have played 2 league games.  That changes this week.  Gunnison remains my pick to win league one.  Of course, they still must face North Fork, Cedaredge, and Meeker.  Gunnison sits at #11 in the seeding Index, and they face Roaring Fork this week.  Buena Vista is my pick to finish in second place.  They sit at #6 in the Seeding Index, and they face North Fork this week who sits at #10 in the seeding index and North Fork sits above them in the league standings.  This is the biggest game of the week in League One.  Meeker is my pick to finish in 3rd place and sit and #3 in the Seeding Index.  Meeker will travel to face Cedaredge (#22) this week and is the second biggest game.  Meeker looks to keep pace with Gunnison.  Cedaredge is trying to hold onto playoff contention and a upset of Meeker would keep them in the race.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #3 Meeker, #6 Buena Vista, #10 North Fork, #11 Gunnison, #22 Cedaredge, #24 Roaring Fork, #35 Olathe

Playoff Contenders: Buena Vista, North Fork, Meeker, Gunnison, Cedaredge

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Olathe

League Two

1. Centauri

2. Monte Vista

3. Center

4. Del Norte

5. Ignacio

6. Trinidad

Only one team has been eliminated from playoff contention which makes for a great first week of games inside League Two.  The top 4 teams will face each other this week and the start of the pecking order.  Centauri remains my top team and that won’t change unless Monte Vista beats them, or Centauri gets upset.  Centauri sits at #16 in the seeding Index, and they open league play against Center (23).  This will be a great test to see where each teams stands.  Both teams play a spread offense so pass coverage will be very important.  Monte Vista remains my pick to finish in second.  Monte Vista sits at #7 in the Seeding Index, and open league play against Del Norte (25).  This is a game between two different styles of play.  Del Norte played tough in the non-league but the one team that liked to run the ball Del Norte fell big against Salida. Ignacio is also in action and sit at #21 in the seeding index.  Ignacio will face Trinidad and I don’t expect them to be tested but Trinidad is playing better football.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #7 Monte Vista, #16 Centauri, #21 Ignacio, #23 Center, #25 Del Norte, #36 Trinidad

Playoff Contenders: Centauri, Monte Vista, Center, Ignacio

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Trinidad

League Three

1. Rye

2. C.S Christian

3. Banning Lewis

4. Peyton

5. Rocky Ford

6. Ellicott

League Three has basically separated into the top 3 and bottom 3.  The top 3 are all league title contenders and playoff contenders with the bottom three basically out of the playoff hunt baring an upset. Rye stays as my pick to win League Three.  Rye sits at #12 in the seeding index and open league play against Ellicott and should cruise to the win.  C.S Christian is my pick to finish in 2nd.  C.S Christian will be looking to bounce back from a tough loss to Woodland Park.  C.S Christian sits at #14 in the seeding index and are on the bubble.  C.S Christian open league play against Rocky Ford.  Banning Lewis is my pick for 3rd place.  Banning Lewis sit at #17 in the seeding index and have the toughest matchup this week when they host Peyton.  Banning Lewis cannot drop this game and stay in playoff contention.  Banning Lewis will look to shake their 2 game slide.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #12 Rye, #14 C.S Christian, #17 Banning Lewis, #28 Peyton, #30 Rocky Ford, #31 Ellicott

Playoff Contenders: Rye, C.S Christian, Banning Lewis

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Peyton, Rocky Ford, Ellicott

League Four

1. Limon

2. Wray

3. Wiggins

4. Yuma

5. Burlington

6. Holyoke

The toughest league in Class 1A is League Four.  All 6 teams have a shot at making the playoffs and all 6 teams sit inside the top 16 of the seeding index.  Limon is my pick to win League Four and are considered the favorite to win the Class 1A State Title.  Limon sits #1 in the seeding Index, and they open league play against Burlington. Burlington sits at #13 in the Seeding Index.  Burlington must win at least 1 game to stay in the top 16 of the seeding index.  Wray is my pick to finish in second place.  Wray sits at #15 in the Seeding Index.  The main reason Wray is sitting so low is their RPI and that is hurt due to play 3 teams who have not won a game.  Wray will look to open the league schedule with a bang when they host Holyoke.  Holyoke is my pick to finish 6th and they sit at #8 in the seeding index.  Holyoke will look to not finish last and a win or two probably gets them into the playoffs.  Wiggins is my pick to finish 3rd.  Wiggins sits at #5 in the seeding index.  Wiggins played a tough schedule and things won’t get easy as they move into league play.  Wiggins opens league play against Yuma.  Yuma sits at #4 in the seeding index.  Yuma is undefeated and I have them picked to finish 4th.  All 3 games are huge this week in League Four and all will have big impacts going forward.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #1 Limon, #4 Yuma, #5 Wiggins, #8 Holyoke, #13 Burlington, #15 Wray

Playoff Contenders: Wray, Limon, Wiggins, Holyoke, Burlington, Yuma

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: None

League Five

1. Strasburg

2. Platte Canyon

3. Middle Park

4. Denver Christian

5. Clear Creek

6. Jefferson

League Five is in danger of getting just 1 team into the playoffs.  The league champion may only get into the playoffs.  Strasburg is my pick to win league five.  Strasburg is the heavy favorite to win the league and they won’t face their main contender till the final game of the season.  Strasburg sits at #2 in the seeding index, and open league play against Clear Creek.  Platte Canyon is my pick to finish in second place.  Platte Canyon currently sits at #20 in the seeding index and probably need to win out. (Besides the Strasburg game) Platte Canyon cannot drop any games and expect to get into the playoffs.  Platte Canyon opens league play against Jefferson on Saturday.  Denver Christian and Middle Park were left off the elimination list, but they play each other this week.  Denver Christian sits at #26 and Middle Park sits at #27.  The winner keeps hopes alive for the playoffs with the loser falling out of contention.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #2 Strasburg, #20 Platte Canyon, #26 Denver Christian, #27 Middle Park, #32 Jefferson, #34 Clear Creek

Playoff Contenders: Strasburg, Platte Canyon

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Jefferson, Clear Creek

League Six

1. Flatirons Academy

2. Estes Park

3. Manual

4. Highland

5. Pinnacle

6. Sheridan

League Six picked up a couple big wins last week to improve their playoff hopes and now three teams are hoping to get into the playoffs.  Flatirons Academy remain my pick to win League Six.  A key injury could change that but we will see if their main RB comes back this week.  Flatirons Academy sits at #18 in the Seeding Index and they open league play against Pinnacle this week.  That will be a quick game with both teams wanting to run the ball.  Estes Park stays as my pick to finish in second place.  Estes Park is undefeated heading into league play but one loss against the bottom 3 team could derail their hopes for the playoffs.  Estes Park sits at #9 in the seeding index.  Estes Park opens league play against Highland.  Highland can easily get back into the playoff picture with an upset.  Manual has been added to the playoff contention list.  Manual picked up a big win over Grand Valley last week and now have a shot at the playoffs.  Manual sits at #19 in the seeding index, and they open league play against Sheridan.  Manual cannot drop this game and should move to 3-2 after this week.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #9 Estes Park, #18 Flatirons Academy, #19 Manual, #29 Highland, #33 Pinnacle, #37 Sheridan

Playoff Contenders: Flatirons Academy, Estes Park, Manual

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Highland, Pinnacle, Sheridan
