Class 1A Football League Predictions Week 8

We are 8 weeks into the regular season.  We move into the third week of League unless you are league one.  With that said I will be jumping much more into the CHSAA Seeding Index and possibly eliminate some teams from playoff contention.  For most teams this week will determine how much of a playoff contender you are.  I will post separately my Playoff Projections and Predictions.

League One

1. Gunnison

2. Buena Vista

3. Meeker

4. North Fork

5. Cedaredge

6. Roaring Fork

7. Olathe

The league title in League One could be decided this week when Gunnison hosts Meeker.  Gunnison sits at 4-0 in league play and Meeker sits at 3-1.  If Gunnison wins, they are League One champions and should see their Seeding Index improve enough to host a first-round game.  Meeker can force a three-way tie for first place with a win over Gunnison.  Meeker also with a win over Gunnison should lock up a home playoff game.  Meeker sits at #6 in the seeding index and Gunnison #9.  Buena Vista also has a shot for the league title if Meeker can beat Gunnison they would join the tie for first place.  Buena Vista beat Meeker last week 41-29.  Buena Vista sits at #4 in the seeding index and as long as they win out should host a first-round game.  North Fork remains my pick for fourth place, and they sit at #13 in the seeding index.  North Fork will face Olathe, Gunnison, and Roaring Fork to end the season and as long as they beat Olathe and Roaring Fork should be in decent shape for a playoff berth.  North Fork will be a team to watch what happens to their Seeding Index playing the bottom team in league this week.  Cedaredge is the final team to mention this week.  Cedaredge sits at #21 in the seeding index and have just two games remaining against Roaring Fork and Buena Vista.  Cedaredge needs to win both of their final two games to have any shot at the playoffs.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #4 Buena Vista, #6 Meeker, #9 Gunnison, #13 North Fork, #21 Cedaredge, #25 Roaring Fork, #36 Olathe

Playoff Contenders: Buena Vista, North Fork, Meeker, Gunnison, Cedaredge

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Roaring Fork, Olathe

League Two

1. Centauri

2. Monte Vista

3. Ignacio

4. Center

4. Del Norte

6. Trinidad

League Two is down to just 3 teams in playoff contention and some big games coming up.  Monte Vista, Centauri, and Ignacio all remain atop the league standings at 2-0.  Monte Vista will face Ignacio on the road this week.  Monte Vista cruised to a big win last week against Trinidad and they have not been tested since their win over Gunnison.  Monte Vista sits at #8 in the seeding index and hope to improve in their final 3 weeks.  Ignacio picked up a monster win over Center last week 42-6.  Ignacio sits at #17 in the seeding index and are in the hunt for a playoff spot.  If Ignacio can upset Monte Vista or Centauri, they will probably be a lock.  Ignacio with loses to both MV and Centauri could see their playoff hopes rest on their game against Del Norte in the final week and still need some help.  Centauri saw their seeding index improve again to #10 and they will face Trinidad this week.  Centauri should cruise to a win before big games against Ignacio and Monte Vista to close the year.  Del Norte and Center I believe are both eliminated from playoff contention but they do play each other this week.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #8 Monte Vista, #10 Centauri, #17 Ignacio, #26 Center, #27 Del Norte, #32 Trinidad

Playoff Contenders: Centauri, Monte Vista, Ignacio

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Center, Del Norte, Trinidad

League Three

1. Rye

2. C.S Christian

3. Banning Lewis

4. Peyton

5. Rocky Ford

6. Ellicott

League Three has basically separated into the top 3 and bottom 3.  The top 3 are all league title contenders and playoff contenders with the bottom three basically out of the playoff hunt baring an upset. Rye remains my pick to win League Three and they picked up a huge win over C.S Christian last week 31-29.  Rye must face Banning Lewis still on 10/22.  Rye sits at #12 in the seeding index.  C.S Christian league title hopes took a hit falling to Rye.  C.S Christian now hopes to keep their playoff hopes alive, but they face Banning Lewis this week.  C.S Christian sits at #14 in the seeding index and a win here should push them farther from the bubble.  Banning Lewis is still undefeated in league and a win over C.S Christian sets up the league title match with Rye on 10/22.  Banning Lewis sits at #16 in the seeding index.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #12 Rye, #14 C.S Christian, #16 Banning Lewis, #29 Peyton, #31 Rocky Ford, #35 Ellicott

Playoff Contenders: Rye, C.S Christian, Banning Lewis

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Peyton, Rocky Ford, Ellicott

League Four

1. Limon

2. Wray

3. Yuma

4. Wiggins

5. Burlington

6. Holyoke

The toughest league in Class 1A is League Four.  All 6 teams have a shot at making the playoffs and all 6 teams sit inside the top 15 of the seeding index.  Limon remains my pick to win League Four and they took another big step defeating Wray last week 13-8.  This was a great game and lived up to the hype.  Limon this week will face Holyoke and Limon must stay focused as they are facing a desperate Holyoke team.  Limon sits at #1 in the seeding index.  Holyoke sits at #15 in the seeding index, and I do not think they can get in without winning 1 of their final 3 games.  Holyoke will face Yuma next week and Burlington to close out the season.  Wray picked up their first loss to a Colorado team this season and now must quickly bounce back as they travel to face Yuma.  Wray is still in very good shape to reach the playoffs but a win over Yuma keeps their league title hopes alive.  Wray sits at #7 in the seeding index.  Yuma continues to roll picking up another big win over Burlington.  Yuma with a win will set the league title matchup with Limon on 10/28.  If Yuma loses, then things become much more interesting to close out the season.  Yuma is a near lock for the playoffs.  Wiggins greatly improved their playoff hopes jumping from #8 to #5 this week after their win over Holyoke last week.  Wiggins this week will host Burlington and a win here should all but lock Wiggins into the playoffs.  Burlington sits at #11 in the seeding index, and I think are on the bubble.  Burlington needs at least 1 win in their final 3 games.  Burlington will face Wray next week and Holyoke to end the season.  Burlington vs Holyoke more than likely determines who gets into the playoff barring an upset.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #1 Limon, #2 Yuma, #5 Wiggins, #7 Wray, #11 Burlington #15 Holyoke

Playoff Contenders: Wray, Limon, Wiggins, Holyoke, Burlington, Yuma

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: None

League Five

1. Strasburg

2. Platte Canyon

3. Middle Park

4. Denver Christian

5. Clear Creek

6. Jefferson

League Five is in danger of getting just 1 team into the playoffs.  The league champion may only get into the playoffs.  Strasburg is my pick to win league five.  Strasburg is the heavy favorite to win the league and they won’t face their main contender till the final game of the season.  Strasburg sits at #3 in the seeding index, and they face Middle Park this week.  Platte Canyon is my pick to finish in second place.  Platte Canyon currently sits at #20 in the seeding index and probably need to win out. (Besides the Strasburg game) Platte Canyon cannot drop any games and expect to get into the playoffs.  Platte Canyon will face Denver Christian on the road this week.  Middle Park avoids being eliminated from Playoff Contention with a big win over Jefferson last week.  Middle Park now must run the table to try and get into the playoffs.  Middle Park will face Strasburg this week and if they lose we will see what happens to their Seeding Index.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #3 Strasburg, #20 Platte Canyon, #23 Middle Park, #28 Denver Christian, #34 Jefferson, #33 Clear Creek

Playoff Contenders: Strasburg, Platte Canyon

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Denver Christian, Jefferson, Clear Creek

League Six

1. Flatirons Academy

2. Manual

2. Highland

2. Estes Park

5. Pinnacle

6. Sheridan

Two teams sit atop the league standings in League Six.  Flatirons Academy and Highland both sit at 2-0 and they won’t face each other until 10/21.  Flatirons Academy remains my pick to win League Six.  Flatirons Academy picked up a monster win over Manual last week.  Flatirons Academy will face Sheridan this week before monster games against Highland and Estes Park.  Flatirons Academy sits at #19 in the seeding index and winning out is the best way to secure that playoff spot with a league title.  Manual saw their playoff hopes takes a bit of a hit losing to Flatirons Academy.  Manual dropped to #22 in the seeding index, and they face Estes Park this week.  Manual desperately needs to beat Estes Park to keep playoff hopes alive and I do believe the loser of this game could fall out of playoff contention.  Estes Park picked up a solid win over Pinnacle last week.  Estes Park has a must win game against Manual this week if they plan on making the playoffs. Estes Park sits at #18 in the seeding index and without a win over Manual will probably fall out of playoff contention.  Highland is the final team to mention.  Highland is in the hunt for the league title but also have seen their Seeding Index improve every week.  Highland will face Pinnacle this week and we will see if their Seeding Index improves if not then a league title may be the only way to get into the playoffs.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #18 Estes Park, #19 Flatirons Academy, #22 Manual, #24 Highland, #30 Pinnacle, #37 Sheridan

Playoff Contenders: Flatirons Academy, Estes Park, Manual, Highland

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Pinnacle, Sheridan
