Class 1A Football League Predictions and Playoff Outlook Week 9

We are 9 weeks into the regular season and we are in the final stretch.  With that said I will be jumping much more into the CHSAA Seeding Index and possibly eliminate some teams from playoff contention.  For most teams this week will determine how much of a playoff contender you are.  I will post separately my Playoff Projections and Predictions.

League One

1. Gunnison

2. Buena Vista

3. Meeker

4. North Fork

5. Cedaredge

6. Roaring Fork

7. Olathe

Gunnison is your League One Champions.  Gunnison wrapped up the league title with a 23-21 win over Meeker.  Gunnison gets the automatic berth into the playoffs.  Gunnison is in the hunt for a home game and defeated North Fork in their final game should give them a decent shot at hosting.  Gunnison sits at #8 in the Seeding Index.  Buena Vista finishes in second place in League One and they will wrap up with games against Olathe and Cedaredge.  Buena Vista currently sits at #5 in the seeding index, and I don’t think either game does much to help them jump higher.  Buena Vista should host but I could see them drop a few spots.  Meeker will finish in 3rd place but I have them locked into the playoffs.  Meeker sits at #9 in the seeding index and they wrap up their season next week against Olathe.  Meeker could still be in the hunt for a home game but their final game won’t do much to help their Seeding Index.  North Fork is the final team to mention.  North Fork sits at #16 in the Seeding Index and currently they would be the first team out.  Why you ask, because League 6 will be taking the #16 spot as the league leader is at #18 in the Seeding Index.  North Fork will look to jump one spot and they host Gunnison this week.  North Fork will finish the season against Roaring Fork.  One win will give them a shot for the final spot but two wins locks them into the playoffs.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #5 Buena Vista, #8 Gunnison, #9 Meeker, #16 North Fork, #23 Cedaredge, #26 Roaring Fork, #36 Olathe

Playoff Locks: Gunnison, Buena Vista, Meeker

Playoff Contenders: North Fork

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Cedaredge, Roaring Fork, Olathe

League Two

1. Centauri

2. Monte Vista

3. Ignacio

4. Center

4. Del Norte

6. Trinidad

League Two will once again come down to Monte Vista vs Centauri next week 10/28 but in the meantime a few big games remain.  Centauri will host Ignacio this week and this is still very important to both teams.  Centauri with a win for sure locks up a spot in the playoffs regardless of what happens next week.  Centauri sits at #10 in the seeding index.  Ignacio on the other hand would be the 2nd team out right now.  Ignacio needs an upset of Centauri to really feel good but if they lose and beat Del Norte in their final game, they will have a shot and I will dig more into the RPI next week.  Monte Vista will host Center this week.  Monte Vista with a win over Center locks them into the playoffs but a loss would really hurt their shot.  Monte Vista cannot overlook the pass heavy attack of Center.  Monte Vista sits at #7 in the seeding index.  Center I believe is out of the playoff hunt sitting at #27 in the seeding index.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #7 Monte Vista, #10 Centauri, #17 Ignacio, #27 Center, #29 Del Norte, #31 Trinidad

Playoff Locks: Monte Vista, Centauri

Playoff Contenders: Ignacio

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Center, Del Norte, Trinidad

League Three

1. Rye

2. C.S Christian

3. Banning Lewis

4. Peyton

5. Rocky Ford

6. Ellicott

League Three will be decided this week.  Rye will travel to face Banning Lewis Saturday, and this is for the league title.  Rye with a win locks up the league title outright.  Rye sits at #11 in the seeding index and are hoping to host a playoff game.  Rye might need some help to host a playoff game but beating Banning Lewis would be the first step.  Banning Lewis currently sits at #18 in the seeding index, and they would be the 3rd team out.  Banning Lewis will need to play desperate because I feel without an upset of Rye, they will miss the playoffs.  They close the season against Ellicott and that won’t do much for their Seeding Numbers.  Banning Lewis will have home field advantage and should make for a great game.  C.S Christian greatly improved their playoff hopes defeating Banning Lewis last week.  C.S Christian can still win the league title but would need some help.  C.S Christian sits at #13 in the seeding index, and they close the season against Ellicott and Peyton.  C.S Christian must win out and they should be in the playoffs.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #11 Rye, #13 C.S Christian, #18 Banning Lewis, #28 Peyton, #33 Ellicott, #34 Rocky Ford

Playoff Contenders: Rye, C.S Christian, Banning Lewis

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Peyton, Rocky Ford, Ellicott

League Four

1. Limon

2. Wray

3. Yuma

4. Wiggins

5. Burlington

6. Holyoke

The toughest league in Class 1A is League Four.  All 6 teams remain in the hunt for a playoff spot and if the playoffs began today all six teams would get in.  We still have two weeks remaining and cannot give out a league title until next week when Limon faces Yuma (Unless an upset happens).  Limon remains my pick to win League Four.  Limon will be on the road at Wiggins.  Limon is a lock for the playoffs with the #1 Seeding Index and they are on pace to be the #1 seed.  Wiggins sits at #6 and are also a lock for the playoffs. Wiggins will be hoping to hold onto a home playoff game.  Wiggins will close the season at Wray, and we could see Wiggins drop to 5-4 before playoffs but I feel confident they get in regardless.  Wray sits in second place currently and they sit at #4 in the seeding index.  Wray I also believe is a lock for the playoffs.  Wray will face Burlington this week who will be desperate for a win and then be on the road at Wiggins in the final game.  Burlington sits at #14 in the seeding index and would be the second to last team into the playoffs.  Burlington is desperate for a win but the game that I think decides who gets into the playoffs will be next week when Holyoke hosts Burlington.  Yuma sits at #3 in the Seeding index and are a lock for the playoffs.  Yuma still has a shot at the league title but must beat Holyoke.  Yuma cannot overlook Holyoke.  Yuma will face Limon in the final game on 10/28.  Holyoke sits at #12 in the seeding index.  Holyoke can lock up a playoff spot with an upset of Yuma but I believe their game against Burlington next week is for a playoff spot.  We will be very interested in the numbers after this weeks games.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #1 Limon, #3 Yuma, #4 Wray, #6 Wiggins, #12 Holyoke, #14 Burlington

Playoff Locks: Limon, Yuma, Wray, Wiggins

Playoff Contenders: Holyoke, Burlington

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: None

League Five

1. Strasburg

2. Platte Canyon

3. Middle Park

4. Denver Christian

5. Clear Creek

6. Jefferson

League Five cannot be locked up this week unless Middle Park defeats Platte Canyon then Strasburg will win the league title.  If Platte Canyon beats Middle Park, then things get settled in the final week when Strasburg hosts Platte Canyon.  Currently just 1 team sits inside the top 18 in the Seeding Index.  Strasburg sits at #2 in the seeding index and are a lock for the playoffs.  Strasburg will face Jefferson this week and will be heavily favored.  Strasburg can win the league title as mentioned above this week but next weeks game will be the main deciding factor.  The main event this week in League 5 is Platte Canyon hosting Middle Park.  One thing is simple loser is eliminated from playoff contention.  Platte Canyon sits at #22 and Middle Park at #20.  Winning this game is required to have any shot at the playoffs.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #2 Strasburg, #20 Middle Park, #22 Platte Canyon, #25 Denver Christian, #32 Jefferson, #35 Clear Creek

Playoff Locks: Strasburg

Playoff Contenders: Middle Park, Platte Canyon

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Denver Christian, Jefferson, Clear Creek

League Six

1. Flatirons Academy

2. Estes Park

2. Highland

4. Manual

5. Pinnacle

6. Sheridan

League Six will take a big step to being decided this week when Flatirons Academy travels to face Highland.  Flatirons Academy cannot wrap up the league title with a win unless Estes Park loses.  Flatirons Academy will face Estes Park next week and a win this week makes that the league title match.  Flatirons Academy sits at #19 in the seeding index.  Highland with a win over Flatirons Academy locks up the league title.  Highland may be to far back to lose this game and get in as an at-large team.  Highland closes the season against Manual.  Estes Park keeps their league title and playoff hopes alive with a 66-30 win over Manual.  Estes Park now must beat Sheridan this week and have Flatirons Academy win to have a shot at a league title.  Estes Park currently sits at #15 in the Seeding Index and would be the last team into the playoffs.  Watching Estes Park Seeding Index will be very important heading into next week.  Manual sits at #25 in the seeding index and have been eliminated from playoff contention.

CHSAA Seeding Index: #15 Estes Park, #19 Flatirons Academy, #21 Highland, #24 Manual, #30 Pinnacle, #37 Sheridan

Playoff Contenders: Flatirons Academy, Estes Park, Highland

Eliminated from Playoff Contention: Manual, Pinnacle, Sheridan
