I am just going to quickly give the rankings and a quick breakdown of what they are returning. We are still planning on doing a Media Poll and that will be released Wednesday or Thursday. If you are interested in voting, please send me a message.
Class 2A
Rank | Team | Notes |
#1 | Sanford Runner Ups | Sanford made the State Tournament last season and had a great run before falling in the State Championship to Yuma. Sanford will be reloading this season behind leaders McCray Larsen (13.3 ppg) and Cash Caldon (9.8 ppg). Sanford will be searching for depth players to step up but look for Ben Sittler , Justin McCarroll, and Lincoln Reynolds to be those players. |
#2 | Limon Made State Tournament (Went 1-2 4th place) | Limon made the State Tournament last season and finished in 4th place. Limon will once again be a factor as they return key pieces to make another run. Limon returns Jordan Rockwell (11.0 ppg) and Kaden Becker (7.9 ppg) both must be the leaders this season. Limon will have to find some other depth pieces but look for Michael Hoffman and Treyton Marx to be those players. |
#3 | Wray Made State Tournament (Went 2-1, 5th place) | Wray made the state tournament and finished in 5th place. Wray will have some reloading to do this season losing their top scorer but return 3 of their top 5 scorers. Chris Arambula (10.4 ppg), Rafael Trejo (8.0 ppg), and Joey Uyemura (5.6 ppg) will all look to become leaders this season. Wray will need depth to step up as well but look for this team to be a top team again this year. |
#4 | Crowley County Made State Tournament (Went 0-2) | Crowley County had a solid season last year reaching the State Tournament. Crowley County will look to reload and make another run. Crowley County returns 3 of their top 5 scorers including Gunner Hughes (12.8 ppg) and Elijah Mcneil (6.2 ppg) but Crowley County will need some depth to step up this season. |
#5 | Byers Lost at Regionals to Holyoke | Byers reached Regionals last season but fell to Holyoke. Byers will return plenty of talent to try and make a deeper run this season. Byers will return their top 3 scorers in Wyatt Harris (11.2 ppg), Zach Cary (10.7 ppg), and Chase Long (7.2 ppg). Byers will need depth to step up but look for them to try and reach the state tournament. |
#6 | Custer County Lost at Regionals to Heritage Christian | Custer County had a solid run last season making it to regionals and now have their eyes set on the state tournament. Custer County returns 5 of their top 6 scorers including their leaders in Garrett Olomon (15.8 ppg) and Adin Zehr (12.6 ppg). Custer County now must fix the mistakes from last season and look for key depth to make big jumps this season. |
#7 | Simla Lost at Regionals to Haxtun | Simla did not make the State Tournament last year in Class 1A falling to Haxtun in the Regionals finals. Simla makes the move up to Class 2A with their entire roster from last season and they will look to make an immediate impact. Simla will look to put everything together this season. Caston Cox (13.7 ppg), Brayden Glover (10.9 ppg), and Brent Bowker (8.7 PPG) will all be leaders this season for Simla. |
#8 | Wiggins Lost at Regionals to Denver Christian | Wiggins reached Regionals last season falling to Denver Christian. Wiggins will return key pieces to try and reach the state tournament this season. Wiggins will have a big hole to fill at rebounding and that could make or break their season. Cole Kerr (16.7 ppg) and Omar Perez (10.8 ppg) will both return as leaders for Wiggins. My main concern is in the post for Wiggins. |
#9 | Holly Lost at Regionals to Cedaredge | Holly was upset at regionals this past season and they will look for revenge this year. Holly will have some holes to fill but look for Angre Salgado (9.6 ppg) and Truman King (8.8 ppg) to step up and be leaders this season. Depth is my main concern for Holly and if some depth players step up this year it could be a big year for Holly. |
#10 | Denver Christian Made State Tournament (Went 1-2) | Denver Christian had a great State Tournament last season finishing in 3rd place. Denver Christian will have some holes to fill this season but look for a trio of players to step up. Derrin Quinn, Andrew Schneider, and Micah Kortenhoeven all will be tasked with become leaders this season. Depth will also have to step up but look for Denver Christian to be a top team again this season. |
#11 | Monte Vista Did not qualify for Regionals | Monte Vista did not qualify for Regionals last season after being upset in the first round of Districts. Monte Vista took big steps last season with a junior core and should take a big step this year. Monte Vista will return key starters in Memphis Garcia (12.4 ppg), Alex Felix (5.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg), and Addan Heredia (3.3 ppg). Depth could be the main issue for Monte Vista but if they step up look for Monte Vista to push for a deep run. |
#12 | Holyoke Lost at Regionals to Sanford | Holyoke did not reach the state tournament falling to Sanford in the regional finals. Holyoke will have some key pieces back, but depth will be a major concern. Wyatt Sprague (13.9 ppg) and Cash Weber (8.9 ppg) will look to be leaders, but depth must step up for Holyoke. |
#13 | Del Norte Lost at Regionals to Thomas MacLaren | Del Norte did not reach the State Tournament falling to Thomas MacLaren at Regionals. Del Norte will return the main cog of last season in Ben Parra (22.1 ppg) but depth and who else steps up will be the main factor for Del Norte. Tyler Gallegos (IF healthy), TJ Sanchez, Jace Pacheco, and Reece Velasquez could be those players. Del Norte needs depth around Parra and if they find could be dangerous this season. |
#14 | Haxtun Made State Tournament Went (0-2 1A) | Haxtun reached the State Tournament last season but went 0-2. Haxtun will look to reach the state tournament yet again, but this time will be in class 2A. Haxtun will have some holes to fill but Maclin Tempel (13.2 ppg) does return to bring the size for Haxtun. Michael Gerk (7.8 ppg) and Ryland Wolff (2.0 ppg) will be two players who must step up for Haxtun this season. |
#15 | Merino Runner Ups Class 1A | Merino was your runner ups in Class 1A last season and make the move to Class 2A this season. Merino will have a few holes to fill mainly at the Center. Merino will bring tough defense and key returners in Tyler Miller (11.8 ppg) and Kaden Piel (8.7 ppg). Merino will look to fill the holes they have a make a run in Class 2A. |
#16 | Fowler Lost at regionals to Meeker | Fowler did not reach the State Tournament last season falling at regionals to Meeker. Fowler will lose their top two scorers from last season but return key depth pieces who could take big steps this season. Scott Mobbley, Harrison Proctor, Erick Hernandez, and Gage Gottbehuet must all step up this season for Fowler. Fowler will have the size to be a top team, but guard play will be key for Fowler to have a deep run. |
