
Class 2A Volleyball Weekly Review and Preview

The Volleyball season heads into the final month of the regular season and teams are fighting for position in the rankings and starting league games to claim league titles. This week we look at the top 16 teams in the CHSAA Rankings.
Wiggins
Wiggins currently holds the top spot in the CHSAA Rankings with a 9-2 overall record, a 1-0 league record, and are 2nd in the Patriot Plains league. Wiggins was able to get the win last week over Sedgwick County 3-2 and will be looking to the same success as they wrap up this week by taking on Yuma on 10/2. Next week, the Tigers will play Weld Central on 10/6 and Platte Valley on 10/8.
Vail Christian
Vail Christian was able to beat Plateau Valley 3-0 last week to put the team at 12-2 overall, 6-0 in league play and in 2nd in the Western Slope League. The Saints will be looking to add onto their 6 game win streak and will play Soroco on 10/2 and Caprock Academy on 10/3 in league games. Next week, the team will play league opponent on West Grand on 10/6.
Evangel Christian Academy
ECA is 12-3 overall on the season after last week. The team lost to McClave 1-2, and beat Otis 2-1, Granada 2-1 and Liberty Tree Academy, making the team 2-0 in league play and 1st in the Black Forest league. To end the week, the Eagles will play Front Range Christian on 10/2 then next week, the Eagles will play St. Mary’s on 10/5 and Simla on 10/9.
Merino
Merino is currently 9-2 overall on the season 3-0 in league play and are 1st in the Lower Platte League. After a few days off, the rams were able to get the win over Yuma and will be looking to have the same success to finish the week as they take on Akron on 10/2. Next week, play will start for Merino on 10/6 against Holyoke.
Akron
The Rams were able to beat Custer County 2-0 and Granada 2-1 last week but fell to McClave 0-2. Akron is now 10-4 overall on the season with a 1-1 league record and are now 6th in the Lower Platte league. The team will be looking to take Merinos spot in the rankings as they face off on 10/2.
Ignacio
Ignacio is 9-1 overall on the season with a 3-0 league record, and are 1st in the San Juan Basin league. The Bobcats are currently on a 4 game winning streak and looking to add more as they will take on Mancos tonight. The team will end the week with a league game against Dolores and playing Sargent on 10/3.
Centauri
Centauri was able to add another win to their league record after eating Montezuma-Cortez 3-0, but lost to league opponent Alamosa, making their records 8-5 overall, 3-2 in league and putting them 2nd in the Intermountain league. Tonight the team takes on a local Rival in Sanford, and then the Falcons will end the week facing Salida on 10/3.
Heritage Christian
The Eagles are 9-1 on the season, 2-0 in league play and are 4th in the Mile High League. In their recent games, the team was able to beat Union Colony Prep 3-0 and beat Belleview Christian3-0. To wrap up this week of play, the team will play SkyView Academy on 10/2 and will kick off neck week with a game against Front Range Christian on 10/6.
Dolores
The Bears were able to get wins over Ridgeway 3-0 and Montezuma-Cortez to put the team at 10-2 overall on the season, 3-0 in league play and 1st in the San Juan Basin League. On 10/3, Dolores will take on Ignacio in a battle for the league title and then they will play Sargent. Next week, the team will play Mancos on 10/6 in a league game.
North Fork
The Miners are currently 10-1 overall on the season with a 7-0 league record, and are 1st in the Western Slop League. Tonight the team will take on Grand Valley in a league game to wrap up the week. Next week, the team will play Vail Mountain on the road on 10/6 in another league game.
Dayspring Chrisitan Academy
DCA was able to get the win over Gilpin County last week 3-0 and this week they beat Denver Academy 3-0. The Eagles are now 12-3 overall on the season with a 3-0 league record and are 3rd in the Mile High League. The team will be looking to continue adding wins to their record as they take on league opponent Flatirons Academy tonight and then Dawson School next week on 10/6.
Lyons
Lyons are 8-5 overall on the season with a 3-0 league record and the team is 1st in the Mile High League. After falling to Simla 0-3, but Lions were able to get a win over Gilpin County 3-0. Tonight the team will face Belleview Christian and then next week, they will play Flatirons Academy on 10/6.
Del Norte
The Tigers are 10-3 overall on the season, 3-0 in league play and currently hold the 1st place spot in the Southern Peaks league. After losing to Sargent last week 0-3, the Tigers beat the Vikings 3-0. Tomorrow, Del Norte will face Crested Butte in a league game and then they will end the week with Olathe on 10/3.
Sedgwick County
The Cougars lost to Wiggins last week 2-3 but was able to bounce back this week and beat Wray in a league game 3-0. The team is now 7-3 overall, and 1-0 in league play. Tonight, the team will play Perkins County and then tomorrow , Sedgwick County will play Haxtun. Next week, the Cougars will play a league game against Caliche on 10/6.
Cedaredge
Cedaredge is 10-2 overall on the season with a 6-2 league record and are 6th in the Western Slope League. The Bruins were able to beat West Grand last week 3-1 in a league game and will be looking for the same success tonight as they take on league opponent Rangely.
Meeker
The Cowboys are 10-3 overall on the season with a 6-2 league record and are 5th in the Western Slope league. Meeker was able to beat Caprock Academy and Hayden 3-0 to put the team on a 3 game winning streak. The next game for Meeker will be against West Grand in a league game on 10/3.
